Are you making money for the right reasons?

I guess this is a pretty common question asked online. A lot of us here wants to make money. No. Let me rephrase that. All of us here wants to make money. Am I correct in saying that? But we have different reasons.

Some of us may be in it to pay the bills or to get ourselves through college while others may be in it to be recognized or to be adored. But have you ever considered making money online for the sake of other people? No, I am not talking about your family or your girlfriend. I am talking about dedicating yourself to improving the lives of a certain segment of the population.

I think this is one of the things that a lot of people in the online marketing world lack. They lack the care for other people. They create products just to make money. They build a list to make money. They do all of these things with money in mind. Of course, I will not be a hypocrite because I also started that way.

But let me ask you something. What if a day comes and all of your dreams come true? I know that you have been waiting for that. I'll assume you will buy a house, and a car and go on a trip around the world or party the night away with some friends or some girls. And then you feel empty. You are not contented so you spend more. You spend and spend and spend. After all, you are now THE man!

But then what? So what if you have all that money? So what if you have all those 'friends'? So what if you have a big house or an expensive car? So what? That is nothing compared to helping another person go to school or helping a family who only eats once a day. It doesn't matter if these people will thank you. You have done something to improve the life of another person and with that, you have made a mark. For each person you help, the more marks you leave in this world. And one day, when your life comes to an end, you will not only be rich in terms of money but also rich in terms of service because of the people you have helped.

Think about it. Are you making money for the right reasons?

So what do you think?

NOTE: I want to personally thank Mario Brown for making me think about this.

I don't think there are right and wrong reasons for making money.

There are just good and bad people making money, if that makes sense.

I have often wondered this myself. The conclusion I have come to is that not only do I want to accomplish my own goals and dreams, but the reason I am doing it is because I want to help others as well. And I'm not even talking about something like donating my cash to a great cause, or making sure someone has food on the table.

My dream is to offer an organization for my friends and like-minded strangers to become rockstar's, published writers, film directors... the list goes on. This is why I have taken up internet marketing -- to be able to eventually go part time at work and be able to fund my projects.

So does that mean I'm making money for the right reasons? Who knows, but I certainly wouldn't put that decision in anybodies hands other than mine.

@honestbizpro, I look at money as being a tool and nothing more. It is a requirement to survive in the world and to generally be happy. I honestly look at "credit" as being far more evil than cash-money ever could be, but that is probably just an opinion formed by my stupid mistakes involving credit.

As for helping people I think that is a characteristic that we just have in us, irregardless of how much money we have or don't have. I could be dead broke but still feel the need to help out others -- which could lead me to volunteer in my community. I think this shows that the idea of "helping others" comes from within well before you have the financial capacity to do much more than volunteer in your community...

    • I am so glad that you started this post because it helps us warriors think. It needs to start here because some of us will move on to become very wealthy. I would hope that the ones who do think back to this forum.

There are so many billionaires and millionaires in this world, but yet so many in poverty. In some countries the rich is living right next door to the poor. But the poor has to deal with the worst schools, worst food, the worst treatment overall - but when the rich needs something - then the government seems to come running like puppy dogs to help them.

It seems that a lot of top internet marketers forget where they come from. They charge outrageous amounts of money for their products or coaching that a person starting out can't even afford. They seem to forget that just a few years ago (when they did not know what an autoresponder was) - $200 was a lot of money to them.

Even before I started internet marketing, I was giving to the poor, giving to the church, and helping others to succeed.

So, it is important that we all give back and try to help those in need because we all need to improve ourselves in that area.

I think that makes sense. Then again, I think they can be further divided into people who care and those who don't.

That is actually what I am talking about. I am not pertaining to charitable works alone. People differ.

If you help other people reach their dreams like rockstars, writers and film directors then you are still helping other people and that's what counts.

Money or what money can allow you to enjoy? By any means? I probably have felt best when I did things for free but I certainly have no guilt for wanting abundance. We all should. The more you have, the more people you can help.

I was reading about the hearings of some Wall Street characters who really knew how to "work" the system. I am sure they had an intense love of money. They are also under criminal investigation as well.

Money is at the center of almost everything..directly or indirectly.
I really like how you said 'The more you have, the more people you can help.' It is not because money is evil. It will not be evil if the one holding it is good.

I really admire what you are currently doing. I think giving back also applies when we conduct business. The more value we give to our customers, the more they are willing to return the favor.

In the end, helping others is really the hidden path to true success and satisfaction.

I believe that you ONLY make money for a reason....

What that reason is will be very individual. Some get a kick of seeing all the zero in the bank, others what the can do for family, friends, others the freedom to travel, etc.

But without a reason, you would never put in any effort....

The question to me would be more like the moral reason to wanting more money! My earnings and business is governed by a moral reason, a dream of being able to make a change in a specific area of this place we call earth.

So to answer the question. Yes I make money for the right reason

I believe that we, in the network marketing industry, have to elevate our marketing to a more professional level. Everybody shouts bigger earnings, a proven system, quick and easy. When we break the mold, that’s when you stand apart from the crowd.

It is hard to stand out of the crowd with just a simple biz opp presentation. There is a lot more that needs to be done to reach your target audience. Type in Network Marketing as a search here on SlideShare and see if any of my presentations come up...if you want to try a different approach, check out the hot dog presentation.

Money is simply a means to be able to do what we want. For the materialistic and that seems to be the way our society is going it is for selfish ends for me it's to have the time to help other people.

I am a senior qualified cricket coach and I'd love to travel around the world to all the smaller cricketing nations and coach children. For instance to take a team of cricket coaches to Africa and see the joy playing would bring whilst seeing a new culture. If that was combined with taking aid out there even better.

There is so much joy to be had helping others, thats my goal. So for me the motivation is TIME, the time to do what I want without worry.

    Thanks Martyful

I have experienced first hand changing someones live after they had had a mental breakdown and were becomming a recluse unable to even go into a shop on their own. It took 4 years but now they can go shopping into a large supermarket on their own and tackle new things.

We still remain friends but you can not imagine the pleasure seeing them lead a "more normal life" brings or when they tell someone that they will forever be grateful that I totally changed their life for the better.

That is the best drug there is. Just give me the chance to do more with without financial worry and you will find one happy man.

Money is the main motivating factor for us to work but I guess most of us wants to work as well because it's either you want to practice what you've learned, you wan to explore more skills or you're just productive enough that working is part of your daily routine. Whatever your reasons are, make sure that it is something that will make you grow as a person.

I think that you should always ask yourself this question to just keep you motivated. I personally make money to put food on the table and to ensure that I am not struggling in life.

There are any number of reasons for wanting to make money but peace of mind that comes from knowing you don't have to worry about it is the ultimate benefit.

You are then able to "BE" a person free to follow their passions and in essence be the person you were meant to be because the limitations of survial on a day to day ... paycheck to paycheck are removed.

I guess the question I always ask myself is ... What would I be doing if money were absolutely no object? If what I'm doing now is still what I'm doing then ... well I've arrived. But if I can list off a number of things I would rather be doing if money were no object then I need to make some changes.

Money is merely a vehicle ... how you choose to drive that vehicle is up to you. Your license isn't issued by the Department Of Motor Vehicles ... there are no road rules or handbooks .... You are the ultimate lawmaker.

What life will you choose to lead?

Having the financial freedom to make that decision appears to be the unspoken motivator for us all.

Everyone want money for right and bad reasons, there are many people who have a lot of money and spend them to buy anything they want but how many of them spend at least 50cent for someone who need it?
I like your post, it really give a reflexion for everybody, i hope that everyone can open their mind and think about others too.
At the beginning, i want to make money to buy all the things i want and also fullfill my dream: travelling the world.
But when i go in town, i see homeless people who don't have money to buy clothes during the winter and don't have money to buy something to eat to stay in life, it makes me so sad because i can't help them because i don't have money to spend.
Recently, i decided to earn a living (i earn very little until now, i just started two months ago), i said that if i earn around X per month, so i could give 10% of my revenue to homeless people and associations, but unfortunely, i can't because my "business" doesn't work as i wished... but i won't give up!
    Fighting!
