How Do You CLEAR YOUR MIND?

I feel like I have so much going on at the same time, I just want to clear my mind and relax for a day to recharge my batteries...

Any suggestions?

What do you do when you need some down time...

If your internal voice starts to analyze it, or begins to rehash stressful situations of the day, worry about the future, make a list for grocery shopping, or anything else, gently turn your attention back to your chosen target and the sensation it provides. Let your mind stay quiet and clear.

Another fun trick to help clear your mind - especially if you've got a voice in your head nagging you - is to change it's "voice".

Chances are you wouldn't let anyone else talk to you in the tone of voice you talk to yourself in, so change that nag to something like a Mickey Mouse voice and shift where it's coming from to somewhere you won't take as much notice of, like the end of your little finger.

It's then a fairly small jump to flicking the voice into the distance and clearing your mind of the thoughts you don't want.

Also the ideas of meditation, walk, etc work well.

So many things run in your mind is Probably because you haven't honestly worked on anyone of those. These kind of distractions can only be solved by starting of that ONE thing -- and then take a break -- if not the break may worry you more.

This is EXACTLY what I'm doing as of now All the best to you

Well...honestly I see two problems so you can just pick whichever looks best for you if you'd like.

    1. Get inspired today is completely right. It's important to organize yourself....in other words take everything you have to do in the day and set up a schedule and a time to take care of it....then when it's time for you to do something all you have to do is work on it knowing that everything else is ok. You've already set aside the time to take care of it and you're ind calms down.

If you try this it'll take a few weeks to get use to but I HAD THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM a few months ago and once I did this my mind really calmed down and I could focus...the best part is I ended up with a bunch more energy at the end of the day. Now that's pretty cool.

    2. Get Inspired Today is def right when he says look into meditation but that can be hard for some people....so another idea to get your mind and body to relax is to go GET A MASSAGE...they're incredible...they clear my mind, recharge my batteries, help me relax and let go, and I just physically feel better throughout my entire body. Massages are seriously my favorite thing in the world. After I finish a big project or I get a good payday I ALWAYS reward myself with one. : )

Both ideas will help you recharge and clear your mind so pick which one looks funnest for you....

It could be a good idea to take a week sometime to get yourself organized though...that would help a lot with the overwhelming.

    Meditation.

Exercise helps but is more of a thought-drowning mechanism. Not a bad thing but if you want to expose and release your deep stress try meditating. It lays the mind bare and is purifying. Just sit in a quiet spot with your back straight, be still, and watch where you're being pulled. Fun stuff

I have to disagree. Physical exercise is one of the best thing you can do to relieve stress, especially if it's doing something you enjoy. Go hike a small mountain, and take some beautiful photography from the top, or go kayaking to a small island and have a nice lunch, or whatever.

Nonetheless, physical exercise is detrimental to a clear and stress free mind. It's well proven the endorphins released during exercise are very important to your mental health and stamina.

Well were all different but for me either A) Go out for a drive (I rather drive than breathe and the type of driving I do requires total concentration). B) Re-read a favorite book (I've read The Godfather so many times I'm on my 2nd copy -- the pages fell out of the first one).

I do not believe you can clear your mind, but I believe you can focus on things that will recharge you.

Please, do not misunderstand me below. I do not moralise or say that you are not doing so. I simply come with suggestions as how to clear your mind.

Do you have any hobbies that you love to do?
Some people that you used to hangout with or talk to just for fun?
When did you last do something for others without being asked for help?
When did you simply sit down on a bench in the park just observing people?

Personally, I find myself most recharged when I have given some of my time to a cause that I care about.

I hope you find your way.

I would love to say that I do something spiritual but I'm just not that calm when I'm on a mission to finish a project. I sometimes listen to Rock Music circa 1967- 1984 2 decibels lower than to cause ear damage and/or find something to clean.

Sometimes just getting away from whatever has consumed me can do wonders. I don't think my mind ever completely clears but I can quiet it down.

I remember that a big break that has come into my life was since I get to outsource my business tasks and starting to experience regular holiday travels - every 2 or 3 months. Also, since I only work 2 hours at most a day now, I still go to the gym regularly, do my hobbies outdoors and spend time with my loved ones. This is one of the best lifestyles that I ever wanted and I wouldn't want to look back.

Something I completed recently is this exercise from John Reese titled "Reboot Your Brain." (Thank you Gaven Stephenson for the recommendation.)

This will definitely clear your mind, Mike. Actually, if you're anything like me, this will be the most important exercise you complete this year. (You'll see why in a moment.)

Essentially, your brain is analogous to a computer, in that it stores program after program, which all take up space/memory, until you're running at an inefficient speed.

However, when you reboot your brain, all those "programs" (thoughts) that you didn't want or need are deleted or modified, and now your "computer" (brain/mind ) is running at optimal speed.

To begin with, there are 3 "components..."

    I. The "To-Do" Expedition
    II. The "Desire" Adventure
    III. The "Fear" Discovery

    And, ultimately ...

    "Your Master To-Do List."

    Here's the link, Mike.

    www.marketingsecrets.com/images/rebootmethod/rebootmethod.html

(Yes, it's absolutely free, from John Reese, for as long as the link is up.)

    Enjoy.

And remember to report back when you've completed the exercise.

Change some of your mundane daily habits. Resort to the soothing voice of a hypnotist who can ease you out and can help you reach an alpha state of mind. Then reach out for the subconscious and be everything you want to be during the transformative process. The hypnotists energy will open the canal to the infinite of possibilities that you've got already to be everything you want to be. That's fulfillment.

Actually this is a great topic. Clearing your mind and then rewriting the cognitive patterns to herald a new consciousness. Become a great husband, a better father, a lover and develop in person. I do this by cycling the process, vanish from the face of the earth and then come back reinforced at will. Bit by bit, it works tremendously.

Unlike a computer, you can't really 'turn off' your brain. It keeps functioning even when you're sleeping, through dreams.
The only thing we can do is to direct it's focus.

Even masters at meditating do not silence their mind completely, they merely prolong the silence between thoughts. As those who practice meditation often knows, there are still intruding thoughts when meditating, but the trick is not to get worked up in having a 'thoughtless' mind but bring the mind's attention back to the gap/ silence between thoughts.

If you're looking to 'clear your mind', I'm assuming you want to rid it of intruding thoughts and any negative emotions, and be in a state of calm, peace and bliss.

The way to do that is to direct the mind's focus on an enjoyable activity, which can be either a passive activity like reading, listening to music or physically active like being in sport, tennis, golf etc. The trick is to have your senses fully immersed in the activity, in a state of 'flow'. Where you're not thinking of other things but just experiencing the present, the 'now'. Where all your senses are fully engaged in experiencing the present and deriving enjoyment from it.

Find one of those activities that you enjoy, and let yourself be immersed in it's enjoyment, and then the mind is clear and you're in bliss.

Meditation is not just the act of sitting in the lotus position, closing your eyes and observing your breath. It is the act of immersing all your senses and your mind into the present, in whatever you're doing, experiencing the present fully, losing track of time and space.

Lots of you guys are mentioning Meditation, but what is your method or technique?

Personally, I like to use exercise to clear my head. Getting your heart rate up, and your blood flowing is a great way to relax. I know it sounds counter intuitive but the hormones and endorphins released during a workout will make you feel better. Not only in the short run, but if you keep it up - you'll gain an amazing amount of focus.

Tony Schwartz who wrote The Power of Full Engagement (with Jim Loehr) promotes constant renewal to keep your mind focused.

Remove distraction and work on single tasks for with frequent breaks is the best way to attack a long project.

Also, like many people said above... taking a vacation and breaking your routines is a great way to improve your clarity and focus.

I love going for walks, but I think any type of exercise is good, whatever you enjoy doing. Doing some physical task makes your mind sort of numb for a while, it feels like the brain is taking time to process and organise your thoughts into some kind of order, and your head clears, and then you get to a point where realise you a thinking much clearer and can get a bit of perspective on the problems that have been overwhelming you. It's like your brain just comes up with answers and solutions if you stop fretting for a bit and let it relax. Doesn't take much time, maybe 30 minutes for me to get to that point of clarity.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[2161854].message }}
  • Hello simmonsmike7

I solve this problem in one of three ways:

    1. Walk. Great if you have time.
    2. Run. Great if you do not have time.
    3. Exercise with weights. Great in any case.

It's important to move the body, because when the body moves, mind is relaxed.

Interesting topic. I used to be all about clearing my mind and trying to prevent myself from going insane. It may be my brain chemistry, but I don't try to clear my mind. If my thoughts are racing or I'm irritated, I do something else that's engaging.

Online revenue has an unlimited amount of potential things I can try. I search a few fine sights in between, read, and play the odd game on my iPhone. That's about it, really. Now that I reflect back on my life, I'm happiest when my mind is the busiest.

Might seem something to be envious of, but it has huge downsides, especially when you get in a rut and don't do much.

If it's possible for me, a short road trip always does wonders. If that's not a possibility, I read. Coming from a writer who wants some down time, that may sound strange to fill my mind with more words, but it really does work and often inspires me. Only light "fun" reading for those times, though.
