I was wondering what you did to relax....I have 30 minute breaks 3 times a day and I love to unwind when the work day's done...it keeps my business fun...

I meditate, do some yoga, completely let go of everything(my vegetation state), get a massage, listen to music, and I do breathing/energy exercises to get my batteries charged...ohh and I love to take hikes. I live right by the mountains so nature's lovable here.

I also read sometimes at night. When I do it's philosophy cuz I'm weird...and I watch some Eben Pagan or Frank Kern videos WITHOUT TAKING NOTES lol...that's pretty lame but I like just relaxing and watchin some vids on business theory....I mean I am suppose to be working during the day ; )

Just curious...you can probably tell I like to mix it up so I was curious what you did.

UPDATE: TK added in a good question...how often do you relax? twice a day? Twice a week?

I'm kinda rediculous....I think I relax 4 times a day...cept when my girl's within reach...then I get no sleep >.<....that girl's a flippin zombie!

stop that......from experience......get away from business.....do something that requires you to use your mind that is on another track....

In all fairness I am retired and do not have some of the normal pressures....I once did......used to work lunch....eat at my desk....listen to the tapes in the car.....found out that a true escape from that ...increased my creativity and production......

Now I leave the computer and paint....art.....requires concentration....and I enjoy it....sometimes a few minutes sometimes much longer...when I get back to "work" the world seems brighter....and the words flow...

hahaha....yeaahh...talking to my girl's usually nice...sometime's it's stressful though. It's just part of being in a real relationship...

Something strange...business doesn't stress me...and I use a lot of creativity in my business...it's just something I love to do. If I don't create I get reeaaalllyyyy bored. So I'm always in that mood...research, development, systems, optimization...I'm always restructuring my business for fun...sometimes I'm thinking...hmm...do I actually get paid for this? Then I check my paypal to make sure lol...then I realize I have a bunch of money so I drop work for the day...

      I'm really weird...I know.

Yes!! That's a great idea actually...I love to get away and play my guitar and make some music...I kinda suck at drawing but I've wanted to develop the skill...I don't know why I haven't yet...I just keep thinking...huh it'd be fun to paint lol...hmmmm

      Thanks for the thought,

      I really appreciate it.

      Thanks so true,
It seems when you take a break from something other than IM and just unwind and don't think about it.
You feel just more energized instead of doing the same thing in out which gets frustrating and irritating after a while.

Great! Thanks Jim...I'm definitely going to get into painting...hmmm....I'm thinking on Tuesdays sometime....probably Tuesday afternoons after I get my leverage points for my biz taken care of...that way I won't feel "guilty" about ditchin out if I'm having too much fun ; )

I think I'm just going to start with drawing to get the core movements and concepts down...there's less room for error...

      But maybe not...who knows : p

Either way...thanks for the ideas Jim.

I have a feeling you might find a painting book in your mailbox one day : )

I like to relax by listening to music or motivational cds or going for a walk to the beach. The sea air is great for clearing my head. I also find meditation a great way to relax but make sure you are guaranteed NO INTERUPTIONS otherwise its a pointless exercise. Don't do it with the tv on or kids running around because you will end up more stressed than when you started.

I learnt that lesson a long time ago!

I read all posts of this thread and noticed good ideas regarding relaxation. One relaxation method which nature itself put on all of us as mandatory is 'sleeping'. Weather you like it or not you'll fall sleep naturally. And, as a result your mind will renew its energy to help you stay alert and awake for 16-18 hours.

Sleep as the only means of relaxing the mind is not seems to be enough and we like to pick other channels to feel relaxed and calm. And, it's up to us to make it mandatory or optional. Certainly we cannot be workaholic. my question is how much time apart from sleep you should spend on other relaxation activities?

      That's a really great question....

Well believe it or not our body has this cycle called...60/60/20 I think. We have 2 60 minute phases of productivity and then we just completely relax.

It's a proven time management system!!

But hmmm...honestly, I dunno...I relax like a total of 4 hours every day....sometimes more if I choose to leave my house to have some fun.

It just depends on your flavor really.

I noticed that when I started relaxing my work production increased by 10X. I'm not even kidding...and I work less than before....

Come to think of it...why am I on Warrior right now? Hmmmm....just to mix it up and start the day off talking about relaxing I guess : p

Definitely a good question tk...how long should we relax...I'm going to see if I can put that up in my first post...

    Hi,

I like this question, because I have realized in the last couple of months how important this is.

Having started a new business on a shoe string budget, I am poor in both time and money a lot of the time. Here is how I unwind:

Bike riding, 4 times a week. I do about 10 miles each ride, and I absolutely love it. It's such good thinking time.

Walking (twice a week). A few miles walking down on the local beaches again is a great way to unwind for me and has some health/fitness benefits attached to it.

Aikido. It's the gentle art of devastation and I find it weirdly meditative. I go once a week. When I have more time and money though I prefer to train in Israeli martial arts.

Reading. Usually business people's autobiographies or books about business. I read about three to four nights a week before sleeping. I like to learn about other's business experiences and realize I am not the only one who has suffered for their success/business.

Drinking. About once a month I go out on the town with about 10 of my good friends, we chase girls, drink too much and have a giggle. I don't make a habit of it, but it's good to let your hair down now and then and just forget anything in a dizzy state of euphoria.

About once or twice a year I treat myself to a floatarium.

That about sums up the ways I relax!

      huhhh...maybe that's why I suck at golfing.

I actually just had that epiphany last weekend!! I completely zoned in and focused on my core...naturally everything else stilled and relaxed...including my eyes : 0...it was a little weird following the ball after my stroke but once I adjusted I hit the ball about 50 yards further with more accuracy.

It does test my patience sometimes though : /

      Ahh...I love meditation...

      Here's my morning ritual.

      1. Wake up and drink a giant glass of water then brush my teeth
      2. Workout
      3. Sexual Mastery(yeah I chose to master it...why not?)
      4. Shower
      5. Meditation
      6. Eat

      7. Day!(Which is sadly structured till 5)

I really want to get a sauna though! I'm almost in position to where I can get a massage and find a membership to a nice spa.

I highly recommend digging out your digital camera as a great way to unwind, depending on my level of stress, a few Nature shots can help to unwind, or dive right into my settings to really break away, a great time to try some Macro or Water shots.

Another benefit is if they dont turn out, delete and take another, no pressure.

While you are at it upload your photos to a few photo site contests or sell on stock photography sites which will make your time out pretty productive.

    Aaryn
I live in japan so I go to hot springs (onsen) and relax with a public bath

    Among many other things.

    Peace,

    I also love meditation.

But aside from going to the gym regularly, eating nice foods, having soothing music in the background and taking power naps, I would always have to relax not only at home but in several places.

Here's a sneak peek of one of my happiest travels last Christmas:

    Enjoy!

In times past it was mandatory for God's people to relax and stop working for one whole day. It was called the Sabbath. Whilst you might not appreciate the Truth behind the Sabbath, the principle is very good as it forced God's people to cease from all labour for a whole day.

Imagine adopting the principle for your self. For one day in seven, instead of working and thinking about work and that includes recreational activities, what else can you do?

The Sabbath was designed to make God's people think spiritually, and whilst I say again that you might not hold with the spiritual principle behind the Sabbath, there is a lot to be said for practicing taking a day off from doing any work and meditating instead.

    Hi Aaryn,

I meditate, go for walks and sometimes just stare out the window at nature. Always helps to calm me, almost instantly.

The interesting part is that more things seem to happen for me during "down time" than when I'm working, because I'm fully allowing during these periods.

Relaxing is one thing, clearing the mind.

I do this through exercise from yoga to tennis to working out.
I also will pour ideas and thoughts unrelated to goals down on paper, to remove the clutter from my brain. Doing this consistently has allowed my brain to function on full throttle for hours and I recommend anyone who does not do this to try it out. Carry a moleskine around and just write unsinkable thought, any thought that does not have an immediate answer down on paper so you do not dwell on it.

You can do this overboard, use judgement.

    relax,
I remember Brian Tracy talking about it. he suggested a nice method:

take 50 deep breaths, counting every single one of them
    50,49,48,47,46,45,44,43,42,41,40.................. .................................................. ................
    ...............9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1....
it works you have the oxygen doing the whole job for you

I also recommend spending time with dogs, cats etc.

Most of us think of physically doing nothing as a way to relax...I disagree. I think it is best to get out there and do something active but totally separate from your business. Something that will take all your attention and focus.

Playing some sort of sport would fit the bill.

When you get back, you will be tired, but at peace.

    Two things:

    1) 10 - 15 minutes of meditation morning and evening. I learned 'clinically standardised mediation' Clinically Standardized Meditation | All Meditation as it has no religious foundation as so does not conflict with my own beliefs;

    2) I use the technique taught in Psychocybernetics of constructing a beautiful, safe, relaxing place in my mind. I 'go there' regularly to lay in the sun, swim in the sea and play. I might only go for a few minutes but it calms me. I throw in the other relaxation technique described in the book and add some NLP too.

I have an anxiety disorder so when I need to really relax for mental health's sake, I count my breathing - in for three seconds, hold for three, out for three, repeat. Sounds kind of silly, but it quickly helps me calm down.

In terms of regular relaxing, I read. Anything and everything. I find that the mental release that comes from escaping into a book allows me to unwind like nothing else. Add a hot bath to that mix and I'll go from relaxed to almost catatonic.
