Why you get stuck and FROZEN into INACTIVITY

I have been into online marketing for about 13 years. In that time, I have found myself, more or less, at times, stuck or frozen while thinking about projects or pondering new ideas.

I have also found myself full of enthusiasm for a new idea - even been able to see it all laid out, and yet I spend time checking stats and emails and basically just wasting time goofing off instead of GETTING IT DONE.

Why?

Here's my best guess as to WHY it happens...

The Internet Marketing PROCESS (yes - no matter what you are trying to do, it is a process that requires many steps) is usually composed of many steps. And while the IDEA may be terrific, the steps involved are many.

Those steps may not be hard, but there are usually a lot of them before a plan or an idea can be put into action.

For example: OHHHHH! I have a great idea for a new WSO!!!

Step 1 - Write the eBook or do the video (this in itself could involve 10 steps, 20 steps or even more)
Step 2 - format it and upload it
Step 3 - Create a download page
Step 4 - Create a Sales Page
Step 5 - Create a payment button

Then you can actually POST the WSO and wait a few hours until it's approved and then pay for it.

Then and only THEN do you see if your great IDEA is worth anything and if people will buy it.

The steps involved in putting up a product outside of this forum, say on Clickbank or on some other affiliate payment solution are even longer and more involved.

I would guess that 90% of people that have an IDEA will just think of the idea a lot but NEVER put it into action because of all of the steps involved. I even do it - dream, think, and ponder... wondering if the idea will fly instead of doing the work and at least TRYING it to see if it will work.

To me - this is the biggest barrier to new products coming out from the average IMer. It's the BARRIER to success.

Some people will call it the "work" part - and yeah - that's what it is.

But I think it's more than that... I think it's a PROCESS that a lot of people THINK about. And the more they think about it, the less they want to do it because of all of the steps involved.

So - here's my advice if you have a great idea and want to try it and see if it will work as a WSO or even a product on Clickbank:

MAKE AN OUTLINE of the STEPS that you have to do.

Then - ONLY focus on 1 step for RIGHT NOW. Get the ONE STEP done and then go have a cold one

Later - FOCUS on the next step. GET IT DONE. The go have a cold one

(I like going and having cold ones)

Anyway - by setting the PROCESS up as a series of steps and celebrating as each step is done, you will feel like you are getting somewhere AND accomplishing something... But the big thing is that you WILL finish it and get it DONE... SOMETIME.

MAKE a PLAN.

Break it into STEPS.

Do a STEP AT A TIME.

GET IT DONE.

Maybe yours will be the next WSO I buy

    Totally agreed!

The only way I can get anything done is to create a TO DO list of everything that needs to happen to see it to fruition. (fruition, I love that word).

I don't have the link on the top of my head, but I use this program that allows me to put Stickie Notes on my desktop. Its called NoteZilla.

One of the reasons I like it so much is that it allows you to create "tickable" To Do lists; whereas you can "tick-off" each item as you accomplish it, (lol, not to be confused with making each item angry with you -- heh).

Nothing like looking back at a long list of "ticked-off" items that have been done. It really feels great.

    tec,

TO DO lists are awesome. I use them all the time and find that I get satisfaction just by looking at all the things I have checked off ans the end of the day.

At LEAST I know I am moving towards my goal.

Gotta check out NoteZilla - Thanks!

jodib, (not to single you out), but I can't help but strongly suggest that you do continue to work on making lists.

See, with lists you can allow your brain to go through its natural transitional thought process. I know with me, while I'm (attempting) focusing on one thing and perhaps doing research... I might come across something that relates to what I'm researching. Now, if I got side-tracked and pursued that avenue... I'd be just that... side-tracked.

Yet, if I pull up a sticky or jot down in one of my notebooks, "get back to blah blah, later... relates to blah"... then I can continue my original research and still have a reference of that "side thought".

    win-win

The mind works most efficiently when things are done in order. The only reason things don't get finished is because the mind is proceeding out of order. This is known as "racing thoughts syndrome." With a to-do list you can finish each task, check it off and proceed to the next step in an orderly manner. No chaos in the mind, no wondering if it's the right thing to do. Just a calm, orderly procession.

It is SO easy to become inactive in internet marketing and life in general. It is always easier to do nothing than something. Thats where the right mindset comes in. If you set out daily tasks to do EVERY day and have them in front of you at all times that should motivate a person into action.

It depends on how much you want success. Is it something that you desire with a passion and want no matter what or are you just a dreamer who wants all the trappings of life but isn't prepared to put in the effort.

I also find that FEAR can make you frozen in life, as the prospect of facing the unknown becomes a scary thought. Nobody knows what the future holds in life or business so the fear of failure or even success can paralyze someone into doing nothing and just staying in their comfort zone where they feel safe.
