Total Focus - The only way for massive success

Focus means absolute concentration on your goal. Remember, your fate is determined by your thoughts. I am not referring to only thinking about what you would like to see happen, I am referring to making it happen. Hewlett Packard has a TV commercial at the moment that approximately says: "Thinkers are great, but Doers make things happen". What if you think you've been trying to make something happen for a while and it hasn't happened yet. IF this is the case, you have to reexamine your goal and objectives.

You can't get there if you don't know where you want to go. If you don't plan, you can't envision the steps necessary to succeed. If you don't write down the necessary steps to accomplish your goal, then your path will be nebulous. If you write down the steps, as will be suggested in my next post on Prioritization, and you identify the obstacles and solutions to those obstacles, then you can arrive at your desired goal. Remember; one of the definitions of insanity is "Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result".

If you find yourself at times dealing with overload, I recommend that you learn to meditate. This is very easy to do. It just requires your sitting comfortably in a chair with the lights turned off. Cross your legs, cross your hands and place them over your stomach, keep your eyes closes, place your tongue on the roof of your mouth, breathe deeply through your nose. Use a count of eight and four, breathing in for eight counts and out for four counts. If you like, you can say the word "OM" and it will resonate through your nose and skull. Do this for 22 minutes. If thoughts and ideas pass through your brain, just let them drift by. Let them come and go. You will find yourself just going deeper and deeper. At a certain point, you will begin to come out of this state. For many people, it seems to average 22 minutes. You will fell very relaxed and refreshed. Best of all, you will now be able to go back to your creativity, problem solving, and concentration to accomplish your goal.

Make sure you do the exercise described in the next post on Prioritization and make sure you continually review this post and the Prioritization post. Print it our and tack it on the wall near your computer. Look at it daily till it becomes part of your life.

Best Wishes
Dr Howard Marshall

Focus and time management are essential for success. It's too bad everyone gets caught up in the end "next best thing" mentality and ends up spending tons of money instead of focusing on the basics.

And it is so bad that people don't realize that they won't get anywhere chasing the NEXT BEST THING and continue chasing the NEXT BIG THINGS

      Hi Woody,

I am submitting a total of 8 posts, ALL ORIGINAL, based on my many years of business experience, 100s of books that I've read on the subject, teaching other dentists as a specialist, being founder of 2 dentist study clubs, running a very large dental practice, authoring 2 books for the public and being Chairman of a Dental company. In the past 2 years I've been heavily into internet marketing. I have tried to consolidate the best of my knowledge and experience to try to help some of our fellow warriors.

Focus of a different sort. I found that when I had to do a lot of driving (concentrating on the road) which I could normally do without too much trouble, there would come a time say after driving 500 miles continuously, I would need to have a stop due to drowsiness. At this point, I would stop and put my head down for as long as I needed. Sometimes I could sleep for one hour but most times, a 15 or 20 minute sleep would refresh me enough to continue for the rest of my journey.

I might give this practice of meditation a go as now I find with not driving but staring at the PC screen learning about IM, I get tired easily (due to age no doubt) but I do find at that point it is best just to give in immediately and take a 20 minute knap which then makes me good for a few hours more.

I believe real focus happens when you reach the fourth stage of learning
    unconcious competence...

we know the first 3 stages: unconscious incompetence, conscious incomptence, conscious competence...

When you have reached the unconscious competence, it is like being in the flow. All things are falling in place. Love it!

    Hi Dr. Howard,

Thanks for sharing the OM meditation with us.

I meditate twice a day for 30 minutes for session. It's no coincidence that I've seen a surge in personal growth since sticking to this practice.

    All the best,

    Ryan
