How Do You Start Your Day?

Hey Warriors,

I have recently started a morning routine that has me at my office just after 5am. I have probably doubled my productivity for the day and I am home by 3:30pm every day to play with my kids.

Here is a quick video I put together on how I motivate myself in the morning.

How Do You Start Your Day?

What kind of routine or success habit regimen do you use to stay motivated?

Most of my life I have been a "night person" there used to be a time where I could not get out of bed until 3-4pm!

These days however I am up by 6am , in the gym for an hour work out,

    Come home and get started

I definitely feel the earlier I rise the more productive I am throughout the whole day

Saturday morning is my only day I let myself sleep in

    Hi Justin,

I wake between 7 and 8, earlier if I go to bed earlier. I make sure to always get 6-8 hours of sleep....food for the soul.

I meditate for 30 minutes first thing in the morning and eat a light breakfast. Then off to work/play.

If you start work at 5am what time do you wake up? And what time do you sleep? Not sure I'd be able to do what you're doing.

As for me, I do strength training in the morning 3 times a week and start work around 10. Cardio 2 times a week and start at 9. I find exercising keeps me fresh, especially as I work from home.

I start closer to 5:20. I get up a few minutes before 5. I quickly get ready and leave and my office is around the corner from my home.

I sleep from about midnight till 5. I have become accustomed to 5 hours sleep per night. That seems to be enough for me.

I workout usually 4 times a week as well...I think that is part of the reason I have the energy to start my days early.

It has really helped with my productivity

I have a huge list of personal development audio I listen to. The past few weeks it has been "Psycho Cybernetics" by Maxwell Maltz.

But I have listened to all kinds of coaches/trainers such as:
      - Les Brown
      - Jack Canfield
      - Tony Robbins
      - Eben Pagan
      - Bob Proctor
      - Brian Tracy
      - John Assaraf
and too many others to mention.

Some days it is business training, other days it is more motivational and personal development. Anything that focuses my mind on my results, I am happy to use it!

I wake up around 5pm most days, stay awake right through the night. Sleep from 5am - 7am and then wake up to do some offline work for 4 hours. And then sleep again to start it all over again.

I have the worst routines right now on the surface, but from an IM point of view its actually working out pretty great.

It been my most productivity period from that point of view, ever.

Back when I had a more traditonal routine, it would be waking up in the morning to a glass of water, brush teeth, lots and lots of stretching plus some light exercise, the same oats with hemp seed and flaxseed breakfast, followed by a shower, before I went on with my day...

Wow, you got some inspiring routine right there. I'm not sure if I can get up that early all the time.

As for me, when I wake up I immediately take my dog out to do her business and after taking her back in, I eat breakfast then off to work.

Absolutely. Physical fitness is a big part of my routine. I usually hit the gym for 45-60 minutes at around 330pm before heading home. It gives me a huge energy boost for the rest of my day because I stay up until about midnight to spend time with my wife and do extra work.

I am backwards from most people. I do most of my work at night when everyone's sleeping at my house. I usually sleep from around 3 to 8 or 9. Then I spend the day doing things with my family and getting the needed stuff done. In the evening it's back to work.

I drink a liter of water as soon as my feet hit the floor. Take 1500 MG of Omega 3, brush my teeth and do 8 miles on my Mountain Bike through the Forest Preserve as fast as I can.

This is followed by 10 to 15 minutes of sitting in complete silence, preparing myself for the day.

If the kids don't find me or start screaming etc... I'm able to do this at least 6 days out of the week.

Very cool. I am just recently realizing the importance of intentionally calming the mind. I have always kind of known that it was a good thing to do but now that I have been doing it on a regular basis, I am seeing a lot of positive changes in my life.

Do you use any meditation CDs or just pure silence?

I get up sometime between 6 and 7am, and either do some Yoga and Meditation, or just the Meditation (depending on how early I manage to get up).

I then turn on the computer, and while eating some fruit, I quickly check my online stats to see if I've made any sales, then I plan out a timetable for the day.

I then go out for a short walk, usually up on the hill. Then I get home and have a proper breakfast, shower, and then on with my day's tasks...

OMG you are all freaks. The first thing I do is make sure I'm awake and need to be awake. I usually challenge any decision I come to at least twice and use the time to warm up to the idea of moving.

Then it's straight off to the bathroom where I dive right into pre-work prep... I leave myself about 20 mins of lag time so I can stub my toe, take a picture of the carnage, bandage it, and still get to work on time.

I have my router scheduled to disconnect my PC from the internet by 11:30am. I'll handle my personal business for day whatever that may be. I'll usually check any final emails around 3 or 4 pm and I'm done for the day, unless there's something pressing or I just want hang around the forums.

I wake up around 6.30am (I was always a morning person but now my son ensures I stay that way ). The first thing I do is read over my list of goals and affirmations -- I have that next to my bed and I read it every morning and night to keep a focus on WHY I'm doing it all.

Then it's breakfast time. My breakfast-making space doubles up as a "positive thinking zone" -- sticky notes with inspirational quotes and the like on walls around where the kettle and toaster are, pictures of people I love on the fridge. Not to forget pretty pictures of horses (I'm into horses ). I find this a great subtle way to get your mind into positive gear -- you may not read all that stuff every single day but it just reminds you that it's there. I think that is important because our minds need constant stimulation and if you don't provide positives it leaves more chances for the negative stuff to creep in... and I don't want it there.

Then get my kids up to get ready for school, drop them off and start my business day.
I have my plan for the day from the night before and follow through and do what is on there based on the prioritization strategy applied and these are all tied to my goals.
Typically, check email first and respond to any must do's immediately and then take care of my to do list or day plan which does include slotted time for emails too
I check forums like mid day and then go back to my to do list
Check emails again later in the day before I wrap up at 5pm.

Hey that's brilliant! I need something sort of like this at work! We use a web based call tracking service and I'm so OCD with the data/reports that it gives us that having it stop me from accessing that site after 10am would totally change my day!

Heck there's a few forums *cough* it should probably block at certain times of the day..

PS: Anyone ever wish there was a device that could put a band on your finger with a note on it? Like tying a string around your finger but with info, and a bit more practical? Even though the world cup is well and truly finished, I am finding it hard to break this habit.. sleeping at 2 or 3am but not waking up until midday. I don't know why I sleep so long??

I tend to start my day with a handfull of pills, then i try and convince myself that not waking up dead is actually good news! Fortunately after half an hour the drugs have all kicked in and I can take an interest in the world.

My days tend to get better as they go along, they never start brilliantly - some people just don't work that way and trying to force it can be counterproductive.

Find out what motivational techniques and positive attitude methods work best for you. Just because it doesn't work that way for you doesn't mean that you are wrong.

Start it off with a nice glass of water, log on and go from there. I guess I have a lot of self motivation at the moment. I always check my rankings for my sites each day to see how they are improving. That normally brings a smile to my face.

yes i do agree as well, as long as you are concentrating on helping others without thinking of yourself first then those people are going to be without doubt the ones behind your true success!

I've always been an "early to bed and early to rise" person. My day often starts before 5 but if it drags out until 5, I'm fine with that. Wake up time is 4 or shortly thereafter. I get so much more done during those early morning hours.

I wake at about 7 or so, sometimes earlier if the kids wake me. I spend some time on the rebounder (trampoline) and then it's a quick shower and breakfast.

I was a lazy person and non action taker, but then I got through with Tony Robbin's Get The Edge course and Now for almost a month every morning I get up at 06:40 AM drink a glass of water, get out and do my Power Hour.

For ~10 minutes I do breath walking(look it up on google) then for ~10 minutes I say, out loud, to myself about the stuff that I feel grateful for while walking, then for ~10 minutes I focus on my goals and visualize, feel grateful and feel what it would feel like achieving those goals and I am still walking.
Then I do ~6 minutes of incantations(like positive self talk, but really speaking stuff out loud with emotions and movement i.e. "every day in every way Im getting better and better"
And then I do +15 minutes of running.

After running I walk for ~10 minutes and feel grateful about what I have already achieved and I SEE the day that's coming, I see all the stuff I will do in this day, but I see it as already done.

And when I am at home I do at least 50 push up's.

This literally has changed my life.
Now I take action, with every day I become more and more self disciplined and there's a lot more and the best part of it is that I feel more energy more joy and I just love living and enjoy every day that I get to live on this planet!

I must say that I hated running, I hated excercise, but I changed my neuro associations and now I love it. Ouh and btw look up neuro associations and if you don't take action or don't do something you want to do then the problem lies in associations you have given to the change! You ought to associate pleasure to the change and pain to staying the way you are.

    Have a great day warriors
