Which one is more important? Money or Life?

About 2 weeks ago, I came to a bootcamp in Indonesia. The Mentor asked to all audience "which one is more important? money or life? "

After a while, I chose money because if you got life but no money, you're screwed, your life will be miserable. Right?

But most people chose life. I just don't get them. In this era, you cant live without money. You cant eat without money. You cant get a house without money.

What do you think? do you choose life? or money?

    Life.

Without life, it's tough to use money

Money is just an idea. You can always attract money making ideas but this can only be accomplished while alive.

    Yeah, I'll choose life.

In the end...everyone chooses life over money, even when you choose money.

    Let me explain.

Life has multiple meanings, but money only has one. In either case, a person only wants money so they can ultimately have life.

If you are sick or in the hospital, then the last thing on your mind is probably going to be money. Once you get out and you have your life back, then money becomes an issue once the bills start coming in so it would seem that money would be more important. What you may not see is that the money is only needed to support the life.

The other way that money supports life is the reason that most people are here on the Warrior Forum. They want to learn to make enough money so they can have and enjoy the life that they want. In this way, money may seem like the issue, but really the ultimate goal is life.

In copywriting, an important concept to understand is features vs. benefits. Money is just a feature, and the benefit is life.

There is a saying or idea that the rich value time more than money, while the poor value money more than time. If you understand this concept, you are on your way to having both.

Woody - that is so true......You can make money and lose money and make it again..
You can NEVER recoup time - and certainly not death.....

Outsourcing is a great example. Sure, we can learn it all and do it all ourselves, but if we can get it done cheaper, and spend less time doing it, probably making more money in the end because we can spend more time on the work we are good at - we ultimately have more time to spend LIVING (and more money to spend on it!)

I am sure there are people in the warrior forum who quit very high paying jobs because they were spending too much TIME away from their families, or maybe it was taking a toll on their health - either way - they chose life over money. And most of them, may even be making more money as the result of their decisions!

I didn't actually think this was a serious question - I read it to see what it was about! However, I would say that most of us are in here because we see the value of living life and want more time to do that - at least that's why I love IM....

Very insightful. Money was created as a means to define value. Before the use of money, we used goods in exchange for other goods. Money represents the cost or value of something. So, when someone holds you at gunpoint and demands all your money and future profits or ends your life, which would you choose?

    I also choose Life.

Life is a gift from God. Money is just here to make life better.

Back in the day before money I'm sure that people were happy.

They lived from the land no running water, no electric.

They were happy because they didn't know any better.

Some people will choose money because they will be scared how life would be without it.

I think life would be simpler if we didn't have to worry about money and just live life freely.

You make your own life experiences with or without money.

God gave us life to enjoy the world not to make money to rule the world.

I am reading an interesting book at the moment that says: 'Living for ministry and living for money are mutually exclusive'.

In my mind this says that life comes first, then comes your belief or value system and thereafter money comes to supplement your life and your value system.

      Does that make sense?

That's a pretty vague question - "which one is more important, money or life?" Let's put it this way to add some clarity:

You're sitting in front of a guy. In his right hand he holds a bag full of a million dollars. In his left is a loaded gun. He gives you a choice: "take the money and die, or walk away and live."

I guess it's pretty clear in that case. How about this one:

Your standing in front of a guy and you're holding the gun. Another guy to your left holds a bag full of money - let's say 5 million dollars. He gives you a choice - kill the man in front of you and the money is yours or just walk away.

For most people (i hope) that's pretty clear too.

I really don't think there's any situation where a sane person would choose a wad of paper or a bag of metal over the preciousness of life.

Ummmm, with all due respect, yes you can. When a person passes away they are separated from their money, you cannot take it with you when you go.

And many people in gambling arenas lose it all with one roll of the dice for example, but are still living. A fool and his money soon part.

I'd say life. However, to actually add "life" to your life, you need money, time, space, shelter and optimal nutrition. If you don't have the amount of money needed for that and just that (after that point more money doesn't necessarily correlate with more fulfillment), then you'll most likely suffer, unless you are truly unattached from all external things

Life is the obvious choice for me. Because I'm living, I can answer your question, if I were dead and my estate was worth 5 billion, I couldn't.

Seriously, in my experiences, the things that money cannot buy, are the most treasured and precious! My family and friends are the most valuable and they are living!

Another perspective to consider is if you've ever lost a loved one. I've lost both of my parents and I can tell you that I honestly cared less about inheritance and wills and how much money was left to me because no matter the amount, it couldn't bring them back.

Life far outweighs dollars and cents!

Hey.........you chose money as you are alive and can choose. Had you been dead there would not have been any discussion about either life or money.

Think for a second from the other angle - you have loads of money but you are no more a living being - does this stand as a logical proposition in the first place?

Life, and not only life from the biological standpoint... which is obvious by the way...

If you are truly alive, you can get as much money as you want. Abundance is not an idea, it is real and tangible. We can condense reality in any moment. I have done it.

But if the price you pay to get the money compromises your soul, you will end up losing all the money if you are lucky (have been there too)... you might lose more.

Aha, you will say that you earn for yourself but we are humans, we need people to interact with, share our life and many other things! You can make hell lot of money if you have life but even all the money on the Earth cannot bring back a lost life. So have life, then have family and then have money.

      The question is too vague.
Like asking if you prefer salt or sugar..
Um right.. but on what? Strawberries or pork?

Which is most important, money or life?

If you choose to live in a city or in the bush
If you have a family or are single
If you are a donor or a receiver
      etc

The question is also leading since one cannot be experienced without the other. The bootcamp people had an agenda with the question. A nice mind control example

      Most definitely, life.

When you are alive, you can do almost anything, such as making a pile of money. You need to be alive to enjoy life as well as mastering its challenges, enjoying its beauty, and learning its lessons.

Immediately I know the answer to be:

    Both.

Anyone who chooses just "money" over life, misses out on
what makes money enjoyable in the first place, and any
one who chooses just "life" forgets that money is what will
    make you're life more enjoyable.

I love both. I can't imagine it any other way.

The real challenge is to make money work for you and not be a slave to money. It's not how much you make, rather, it's how much you keep. It's how you manage your money.

Money IS really just an idea... I think the real reason why we strive to earn more money is not to HAVE more money, but to experience the feelings that money brings.

We want to experience the feelings of security and certainty that the mortgage/rent is going to be paid so we have a roof over our head.

We want to experience the feelings of security and certainty that there is going to be food on the table for our family to eat and enjoy.

We want to experience the feelings of joy and happiness knowing that our family is enjoying the vacation that we worked hard to save for.

In the end, I think it is really the lifestyle that we choose to strive for, whether extravagant or simple.

Some say money is the root of all evil. But money is just an idea and a tool. How you use that tool will determine whether it is evil or not.

Off course is life, that goes withoug saying, I am actually surprised that you would choose money over life, a life without money can still be a happy life, remember that money doesn't mean happiness, and you can still be healthy, with loads of friends and love...basically everything you could ever need, without money.

I choose Life of course, but after living your next most important thing is Money.

And it's never going to get to a point where money doesn't matter.

We no longer live with candles and we are a consumer based society. So going back to the old days is not possible, realisticly in the world we live in now.

I do agree, if you don't have your life together or you aren't fully there and you are sick or something. Your life is much more important, however if you have no money. You can't pay for your life or hospital bills.

We've come to the point in this world. I believe, we're we are over-populated. Everyone, needs to push their own weight and actually all contribute to this crazy world we live in. There are no freebies for anybody.

IMO, Money is definitely important in the world we live in now. Life now without money is suffering.

Which is more important? Poo or Pee?

I would choose no life if I was to live broke. I don't think that's anyway to live life at all.

When One truly knows who One is through total Self-discovery and having Spiritual Freedom, love takes over everything and money suddenly looses its importance, focus and effect. When one then has Spiritual Compatibility with one's Lover and Soul Mate, one has a magnificent base to then serve others. By giving Love to and serving others, one will find that abundance of all forms has an amazing habit of coming back to Self.

I think, That theres not much time to explore you'reself If you're broke and working 12houers a day In a factory ore flipping burgers, So having peace of mind in regards of money could help you much more in the 21.century to find you'reself and spread the love and build a life.

Money at it's best is just a TOOL to help you live the life you want.

If you learn how to live a fulfilling life then everything else becomes easy.
If I had money before I knew how to LIVE an awesome life then it would have been wasted money.

But since I know HOW TO LIVE, money only enhances life.

    Money isn't the goal.
    Life is.

It's the same as the question, "Which is more valuable? Time or Money?"
And the answer is also the same:
If you have time, you can MAKE money. But no amount of money can buy you a single moment of time.
The fable, "The Goose that Laid the Golden Eggs," comes to mind. As long as the goose was alive, she produced. But then she was cut open to get out any remaining eggs; obviously, she stopped producing.

They are both inextricably linked, you cannot have one without the other.

Although having money is very nice, what good is money if you cannot live a life with happiness in your heart?

A joyful, playful spirit coupled with some degree of financial security and the freedom to explore the world around you - life is simply a wonderful gift. It becomes a pleasure to live life to it's fullest extent possible.

If you barter or exchange good things with other people the money will follow.

I choose my values and believes. Not life or money. These are all material things that can be loss at any time. This world is just temporary. Sure you could acquire as much money as you want or fear for your life to every detail but ultimately it just takes one second and all that could be away!

What point is there in betraying your value and believes for the sake of something that is just so temporary?

Of course one of the main reasons I work in IM is for the money, but I have a lot of fun and joy in life too that all the money in the world couldn't buy.

Context sometimes confesses people but basically without life there is no money where the opposite is not true.

Some people say it's better to have money and be miserable than to have no money and be miserable. I'd much rather be happy & have money

Happiness (Life) actually creates money - everyone wants to be happy & therefore everyone 'buys' happiness. You can have it for free and make money aswell.

With the way that life works for most of us, both things fold into each other and the idea of anyone "choosing" between the two seems inane to me, tbh.

Living has its expenses, and I don't think I need to list them to qualify that statement. Therefore, by choosing "life," you're invariably choosing to possess money at some point or another. Similarly, you must be "alive" to possess and trade with money. In that way, one isn't more important than the other, they go hand in hand.

Of course, every living person has a right to life. Do they have a right to money? Well, they have a right to earn money.

It's all the same. I choose a good life and good sources of money, but I don't need to say both, I could say one or the other and it's the same meaning.

And the free time and freedom to live with the people you love instead of slaving at the whip of some corporate drone.

It is not easy to achieve that kind of money without sacrificing many things but if you manage it without losing something dear to you, you won at life.

I am not choosing. A full complete happy life is one that is lively with abundance. You need to be healthy and fit in order to enjoy the material thing in life. You need to be self sufficient in order to have the humility to help mankind

But again honestly, life without money really sucks. Who doesn't love money? Even spiritual monk understands the power of what money can do to save the world

What do you think? do you choose life? or money?
    This is a bit vague,
so i shall impose my own meaning making system on it

I think you are refering to the dilema of 'success' vs 'happiness'

    money vs happiness

(yes i know that some of us actually define success as joy in what were doing, but for now lets just consider success= worldly success, financial flow etc)

For me happiness is more important, cos that is the way i am intrinsically wired
other people will have different combinations of intrinsic motivations
(see Dr Steven Reiss - the 16 desires that motivate our actions and define our personalities)
basic premise is we all have some kind of relationship to these 16 basic desires and a unique combination of high needs, low needs and average needs

i am high acceptance, high idealism, low status, high physical exercise, low saving

the high means i am intrinsically motivated to get acceptance/approval of other and also afraid of failure, the low means that i am not motivated by status

those who are motivated by high status, high tranquility and high saving are much more likely to be motivated by the money motivation as are those who are high expedience (opposite of honour) and high utilitarians which is the opposite of idealism

so what i am saying is some people ARE more intrinsically wired to care bout the money than others

others care more about 'life' quality of life or happiness

    we are all wired differently
thats why the system that works for one person wont necessarily work for others

I see so many people say life, but lets be honest, we are all here because of money. Those who say money doesn't matter are liars. No who is rich wakes up and wishes they had no money and at the end of the day if you made a alot money and died and were to able to give it to the people who needed it you wouldn't care. If your dead it makes no difference but if your alive then being rich makes the world of difference.

Such strong responses! I must admit the question is a bit of a "catch 22" one without the other in reality is completely pointless. However I think the moral of the question is to have a balance of the two. If I may, I'd like to explain my point of view from personal experience.

You see unless you are living off the land free of the economical shackles we call debt, bills, and earning a living life would be the obvious choice. Unfortunately I don't believe that was what the individual asking the question had in mind.

One should never spend their every waking moment chasing money. Unfortunately 98% of the population does this Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm, some even more like myself I worked two jobs from starting from 9am and not getting home till about 1am on average having only Saturdays off. At the time I was with with the love of my life, and as happy as I could have been.

Even though our schedules where very tight myself with two jobs, her with medical school and her job our one day together was something we made the best of and for a long time we made it work.

However like anything under those kinds of stressful conditions the relationship ended. The reason being is the lack of time (life), why did we lack this time because we chased money. There was no balance between the two and it was here at the moment of the greatest loss in my life that my greatest understanding of having balance in one's life.

Since leaving the work force the worry of money has long since dissipated and for that I am grateful, but by now you can guess what I am currently spending my days chasing, Life. You see success is nothing in my eyes without having someone there to share it with. I assure you I can spend hours speaking on what I consider my greatest failure, but living from both sides of that question balance is the only logical answer.

Some of you are taking the word 'live' too literal. I doubt that it meant live as in to 'to live'

Rather, the context in what it was asked was, are you willing to dedicate your life to making money at the expense of everything else (eg family, health, spiritual, etc).

Because when taken in this context, then the answers are not so obvious for a lot of people. How often have you sacrificed your meals over work? Exercise over work? Time with loved ones over work?

The answer of...I'm doing all these because I love them...REALLY? Did your loved ones asked for a BIGGER house? Or a BIGGER car?

I'm not saying Live or Money is more important over one or the other...at different phases in our life, they takes precedence one over the other. There's no right or wrong.

    Go ponder.

Well I had to laugh at your answer. Can't believe anyone would actually choose MONEY over LIFE.

Personally... I'd rather be BROKE and Happy then to be RICH and have nothing of Value...

After traveling all over the world I'm always amazed at how RICH Americans are but most seem soooo unhappy.

Then... I travel and live in many poor Asian Countries where many make less than $3.00 per day and they seem to be the happiest people in the world.

Back a few years ago I decided to sell everything that I owned. The House, the two cars, four Jewelry Businesses and you know what... it has been some of the best years of my life owning practially nothing and being FREE.

Most people have no idea what it feels like to be FREE anymore. They owe $100,000 for a house, $20,000 for a car, $20,000 for College and $15,000 on Credit Cards...

The world has become SLAVES to things that mean NOTHING.

People should try GIVING MORE... instead of trying to GET more...

I think they would be much more happier... I know I am.

This is one of those riddles that is in the eye of the beholder. The answer in our world is both! Happiness will be more dependent on Love, Family, Friendships & Giving. So where does $ come in? Money buys options. If you have options, you have the ability to support and contribute to the "Happiness" group. You can be content or resigned to not having money but to pursue and attain it honestly will give you so many options to invest in your happiness.

    LIFE....

When my day comes, who cares about money...

It's all about the people we touch and the love, memories, and experiences we leave behind.

Now with money you can have more life, but you need a foundation in Life, love, and happiness to succeed.

    Good question!

Because money can buy a lot of life if necessary (to beat disease, to hire doctors, etc).

At the same time (and more importantly), if you aren't LIVING, the money isn't going to change anything. If you aren't enjoying life, going out and finding ways to maximize your time on this planet, the money isn't going to do anything but make you more miserable.

So, in the end, I'm gonna choose life over money. It's waaaaay easier to make more money than it is to get more life.

Sure you can say you choose life, but i'm pretty sure you wouldn't want to be homeless and having your kids you have to feed. And you can say you chose money, but you may not have the time to enjoy your children. It's too general of a question. THE REALITY IS YOU NEED BOTH, SCREW WHAT THAT GUY IS TELLING YOU, life is about balance. It's like asking which came first the chicken or the egg, no one cares and there's no point to the question. The question is so fuzzy and goofy as to make a good answer impossible; the choice is entirely artificial and means nothing without clarification.

Whose life-the person questioned or someone they love, a pet, a random person, etc?

How much money, as opposed to how much life?

Etc-anyone who has worked for a wage doing something s/he hated, has (hopefully) temporarily chosen money over a quality life-at least for those irreplaceable hours. I guess in that sense, most of us choose money over life to some degree, although it's arguable that we really are choosing life, if we have no better option, and would risk becoming a street person otherwise, which might be much more hateful than the horrible job, which at least allows for some fun on the off hours.

As an existential question with no qualifiers, it's unanswerable-like the one I actually saw an interviewer ask John Lennon: "What did the Beatles songs mean?" Lennon replied the only rational reply possible: "Which one?"

the question is actually not valid. there are 7 areas of life, finances is one of the areas. since there are 7, then from a mathmatical attrition standpoint, money will be a low value for most of us, it is for me. that did not stop me from making millions either. i learned to anchor making money to what IS important to me-my family. if i am single, i do not care what car, house, clothes i have. as a husband and dad, i DO care what car, house, clothes my wife and kids have. our self-esteem or self-worth is also a major factor in determining how much we will get paid. if you do not feel worth a lot of money, you will not get it. so, by learning to see what form you are already wealthy in your life, you can start to attach value to the forms you have created. you may value your friendships, your church, your mind, your body, your family, your work, and attach a numerical value to these items that are vitally important to who you are. we are ALL wealthy, according to our "hierarchy of values". you just simply do not realize it. if money were important to you, you would already have it. When you have a sense of fun and enjoyment to what you are doing, life will bring the rest. So the work is to train your self into alignment with you. This is not rocket science, but I know how people like to complicate things. I think most people have it the other way around. I think it's clear; I will go for life since I don't believe that money should be everything that a man has to live with. In other words, what's the use of money if you don't have a life; you just have money in your wallet or bank account, but could not enjoy life. But with life, even without money, if they want to change the way they live, he/she can really change the life he wants it to be.
I really agree with the idea of fellow warrior here, that money is just an idea, an idea that most people have in their mind as the most important item to have here on earth as they disregard human life for the sake of money.

    Life.

Let's face it without life we really have nothing else. I've studied some fantastic philosophers and thinkers and nearly always come to the same conclusion.

money is just an illusion that we have all bought into. we were born with nothing and we will die with nothing. money is something we have all bought into and has become necessary. some cultures use no money and live amazing lives!

Money or life? Money is not everything, but without money, you won't have much of a life too anyway.

To choose one over the other is like asking, "Which is more important, your hands or your legs?" Quite ridiculous right? Both are equally as important.

My answer to this question is that I want money as well as life...

There is always a game of balance that you need to play. If you goo too much into money, and for example don't take care of yourself, after time you may have health issues. Or relationship problems etc etc. Money is important but I would go with life on this one, you can get always get by

    Life is absolutely more important.

I could go my entire life without money as long as I was healthy and felt of some success.

    What is money without life?

I am going to be bold and choose both One needs to have (enough) money for the life(style) you desire. I would actually add a third --> time You need to have money, time to have a great life!

    Here's my take...

Money can buy happiness. Sure, if you're not a happy person on the inside, all the money in the world won't help. But then again, neither will anything else. Not unconditional love. Not the beauty of the full moon, not a sunset on the beach...not any of those things in life that are free.

But if you've got it together on the inside, you can buy a lot of happiness, a lot of freedom and a lot of independence with happiness and create a damn good life.

    Life. Hands down.

My plan is to make just £35 per day before i quit my 9-5 job, it wont be as much as my current job but my happiness in life comes way before working in a job and waking up depressed every morning

Choosing money over life certainly shows a very committed approach to money making.

I'm sometimes suprised that people feel that they wouldn't be able to enjoy their life without money, money is just a means of exchange. You could produce all the neccessities you need for life without it.

But most people chose life. I just don't get them. In this era, you cant live without money. You cant eat without money. You cant get a house without money.

What do you think? do you choose life? or money?
I think the times are bad.

From a "Macro" point of view, we have all this "progress" that has really disconnected us from what really, at the end of the day (you like it, see it, feel it or not) what really makes us feel fulfilled

Unfortunately we live in an era, where we are trapped in the Grid created by private banking that is eventually (in a few generations in my opinion) destroy ourselves.

Humans will be extinct in 100 years says eminent scientist

We are not on a good path folks plain and simple.

    BUT

On our MICRO level of existence, we have a tiny body in this universe, that has an ego that drives it to survive.

So in our toxic world, we shouldn't give up, and try to make a somewhat solid "bubble" that makes us feel happy for as long as we can while we are here.

money is ESSENTIAL for that, but just know that the whole concept is a HEIST that is slowly destroying us from the inside out. And once we have it, we must do something to at least, minimally aid change.

So unfortunately, Thanks to the Industrial Military Comples/Global Corpotocracy, LIFE AND MONEY HAVE BEEN; SADLY, MERGED INTO ONE.

Life obviously, although life without money (at least in this current system) isn't much of a life. I think it's why most people here are trying to earn an automated online income as they have realized it's not necessarily about the amount of money but the way it is generated and what time freedom it gives you...
