Who Here Watches The News?

The news is a snooze and more often than not will cause you to lose.

The media caters to the general public. Hence the negative headlines and positive stories usually being buried.

Perhaps watching the news is OK if you want to know what's going on.....but I side with the sage who said that "all things concerning life and death are in you. No need to pick up the paper when sweeping the temple courtyard."

The reason why I haven't taken an interest in the news for the past 5 years is that it doesn't serve me. Look at your definite major purpose in life. Does it help you or hurt you to watch the news, and if you think that it serves you, how so?

Food for thought.

  • The news? What's that? I avoid it like plague. Anytime I actually want to get depressed...I'll just watch CNN or something. Nothing brings you down like a good dose of how well our government is doing

    Well said Roderick

It's no accident that my greatest strides were made when I stopped following the news. Cutting out the mental junk food was the first step in living successfully.

Ryan nice food for thought message. I too avoid news 'breaking or regular'. In my view if something very important gets happened - friends will itself bring it to you and you can safely say oh I missed that news!.

    Thanks for adding guys.

The biggest items trickle to us anyway. I'll let others handle it because my negativity filter is so finely tuned it can't handle the news.

I give the news one hour in a week. In that hour I get a full recap for the whole week. I can't stand the news every single day! That would make me so depressed!!

    A solid strategy AlveenX.

If watching the news get it all in one shot. Few can take a daily onslaught and be successful.

I was challenged 6 months ago to stop looking at the news in any form for 30 days. I think I will make it to a year and the only thing I have missed is my blood pressure medicine.

In my opinion, the only news show worth watching is The Daily Show. Otherwise, news.google or Twitter are excellent sources of current events. Mashable is the best for internet/social media news and Gizmodo or LifeHacker for additional tech info.

That's the best part about using the internet to get your news; you can tailor it and change it into exactly what you are interested in and filter out all of the negative and depressing garbage from what TV news is usually focused on.

I do not watch the news on television. If there is something I want to find out about I head on over to Goolge news and type in what I'm looking for. I like this because it pulls up thousands of different stories. Allows me to get a better idea of what is going on and I can then form what I consider a good opinion based on the breadth of knowledge and information at my finger tips.

Another reason why I love the internet. I no longer have to listen to ONE source for all my information.

nice quote. i never watch the news since most of the time it's depressing. good thing there's yahoo news and the like. i can choose that i read. another reason why i don't like it is because i find it biased. i doubt that there will be anyone writing for nobody's gain.

Does the Daily Show count? :-) Jon Stewart has a nice way of pointing out the absurdity in the world, which makes it a little softer to swallow. Other than that, I don't bother with it.
