Financial self worth issues

I am planning to go around offering my services to local businesses doing online marketing for them. I am having trouble feeling like I am worthy of charging them a high/decent price for my services.

I have trouble feeling like anything I do can/should result in proper compensation financially.

Any suggestions on how I can improve my sense of financial worthiness?

    Hi abesters -

Approach the business owners very relaxed and confident.

Don't try to convince any of them what you can do for them, simply explain very briefly what you are offering. The owners who are interested will want to know more, the others will not.

For the owners who are not interested, say thank you and good bye. The owners who are interested will ask you to sit down, or set an appoiontment for later.

Remember, when you are prospecting, your are sorting, you are not selling. You are simply looking for those who are interested. When you find them, they will be happy to see you.

    I hope this helps.

That is great advice for him to follow. It helps prevent his self-esteem from being tied up in whether or not a prospect 'approves of him personally'.

If our friend can keep from taking it personally and just go out and meet some nice people in the manner you've described, his confidence will skyrocket, and so will his skills.

One of the best books for dealing with self-esteem issues
in selling is "Zero Resistance Selling" by Maxwell Maltz.

    Really highly recommended.

How to feel good about it:

    1. know what you are going to say. Say you are a internet marketing
consultant and you are screening some local businesses looking for
ones with hidden profit potential with their web sites. Get to the
owner. Be nice and ask if it's a good time to talk about it. If it
is, great. If not, schedule one. Always ask people if it's a good time
    to talk - lesson #1

    2. Be sincerely interested in finding out what the business owner wants
out of the site. Find out what ideas they have, what plans they have
to implement them. Smile. Be warm. Ask questions. People love to
talk about their own interests. Focus on what they think they need
help with first - they aren't usually dumb about it, just overworked and
    lacking in skills to implement.

    Abesters,

This is a very common problem, especially with empathetic people who really care and want to help. I used to have a problem with this myself, and have to take care not to fall into old patterns again.

    SIMPLE ANSWER:

All life is about the exchange of energy - they more you give, the more you get. If you were to offer the best possible services for FREE... the results would be poor. Thats because the client didn't expect anything great, so they create a reality with nothing great happening.

If you offer the best possible services for a HIGH PRICE... the results will be fantastic! The client will expect great results, and will unconsciously intend/expect a high rate of return.

CONSIDER THIS: If you don't charge a good amount for your effort, then your clients won't be getting all that they deserve... you OWE it to them to charge them enough to make them intend good results.

Now, this all assumes that you have good skills, determination and a solid plan. Your time is as valuable as your ability... so be very honest with yourself, but be generous too.

Price your services about 10% higher than you think they are worth, and then work 20% harder to make things go well. Keep raising your prices as you have greater success, and focus on creating win-win situations.

I often coach people on the concept of the "legend." Your clients and prospects will create a legend in their mind about you. This legend is what they will "look" at to determine what they should expect. Your job is to make sure that the legend of you is consistent with the results you are after...

Think on this, and good luck!

  • Hi Abesters,

What I've found to be the most helpful in dealing with negative emotions (especially feelings of low self worth) is questioning my thoughts using the Work of Byron Katie.

It's a really simple process of inquiring into stressful, limiting thoughts and getting free of them. You can do it by yourself or with someone. You can learn more about it at thework.com

    Good luck!

Hi, I totally feel that way too. And usually have an initial meeting where I throw some ideas out, they are either blown away, or just aren't right for me.

Great tips on how to build your confidence up.

Make your approach professional and charge a fair price for the service you feel you provide. If you are truly offering value, then you should take a moment to realize that you aren't in it just for your own profit, but you are providing something useful.
