***The Secrets of Success***

Hello everyone,

Well I've been using the Warrior Forum for quite some time. I wanted to give something back to the community.

I've read quite a bit of success and goal-related books and have compiled a list of most of the top traits of a successful person! Hope this helps you as much as it has helped me!

1.) Persistence - Do something every single day towards your goals.

2.) The Habit of Saving - Save a set percentage, of your income, monthly.

3.) Set Goals - Create a list of your top 10 current goals.

4.) Plan Goals - Create a plan of the top 10 things you can do to achieve each of your goals.

5.) Do More Than You Are Paid To Do - Go out of your way to make all of your work above and beyond the status quo.

Please comment and share your suggestions!

The one I use the most on your list is "persistence". Doing atleast
one new thing every day towards my goal. I love that process and
I look forward to taking the next step forward unknown.

I don't save much money. I prefer investing it all. Saving money I
found doesn't MAKE money. In fact, it stalls it. It decreases in
value and serves no one while it sits. Money is meant to be moved,
but not just anywhere (crap, stuff, etc), but solid investments
(REI, IM, Offline, Direct Mail, etc).

    And the last bit...

yes, I enjoy doing more than I'm paid to do...but I also like to be
paid very well for what I do. I try to serve more people with more
    value.

As far as goals...I guess so...I stopped setting goals and started
focusing on "action". People can confuse goals with taking action
TOWARDS their goals...when it's really just a trick we play on our-
    selves that we're accomplishing something.

I set up basic outlines and plans to follow, but I will always choose
spending my time taking action on what's in my head than spending
time writing goals. But, that's just me.

I agree with just about everything you said except for the saving part. If you don't save then you have no emergency reserves and can get in huge trouble with debt. Piling debt is a large cause for suicide.

Those really are the fundamental tools to success anywhere in life. I find that most people are held back, because of their owns fears. Fear that they will not success, fear that it will be too hard, fear that they do not have what it takes, and worst of all is that most of this goes on subliminally, so it's rarely ever addressed with a serious resolution.

I agree. In order to overcome fear, I truly believe that it must be faced but only a person themselves can push themselves to do it. Nobody else is going to do it for them.

I find #5 to be especially important. As internet marketing and freelance writing are extremely competitive, I've found that going the extra mile is the best way to stand out.

Also, as to working toward goals, I leave sticky note reminders on my screen. It sounds silly and tacky, but leaving myself little notes really does help with motivation.

Sticky note idea is great! What I do is similar. If you have Windows 7, there's a program for your computer that's called "sticky notes" and it does the same thing but without the paper hehe.

      Hey perfectlovehere

Thanks for this great thread -- I have also read quite a bit of success and goal-related books, and I wanted to throw another one out there for your list of the top traits of a successful person!

-- ability to work well in groups/teams.

The reason why add this in here is because in reality, it is our ability to compromise, set goals, be accountable to one another, and pull it in unison that defines our happiness in our success day to day.

There is so much written on the topic of happiness and success... from the studies that were done on people before and after winning the lottery, studies done on people going through different financial/economic situations... even people who have gone through wars and great tragedies... the consistent finding is that happiness is internal -- and it's about the day-to-day, about the process.

In this day and age of working online, it's easy for people to become very focused on how much money they're making as a measure of their happiness or satisfaction. Personally, I believe there's a threshold below which you cannot comfortably support yourself, but above which you must find your happiness elsewhere.

For me this came about when I was talking with a friend -- another very successful IM'er --and we were sharing how we both had the same epiphany: to no longer accept "jerks" as clients.

The more we talked, and the more we worked together, the more we realize how similar we were... it's from this friendship -- they formed a partnership... and now we're launching a company together -- with all the legal paperwork in order so that we are legally partners.

I could've launched the company on my own, just as she could've launched the company on her own... but it's having to pull together, having to compromise, having to be accountable to another person... and getting that feeling that you're not letting that other person down, do your work on your partner's life... that has made such a big difference in my day-to-day satisfaction and happiness working on the Internet.

      Have a great one!

        Agree with this one.

Money comes an money goes. Trying to be a millionaire should never be a goal. I believe that if you are doing something that you are passionate about, you will be successful and happy for life.

I enjoyed reading your list very much. I don't do so great with physically writing goals down on paper but I still know what they are. Persistence is vital... saving is the only way to assure the future we want, and doing more than you're paid to do makes people remember and thus you become even more successful. Great post!

Persistence is very important in my view. You can join the right program, market it to your niche, take action, etc.....but if you don't posses persistence then you may never succeed.

Persistence is so important to a person's success online and even offline.

If I may add a couple of things:
    a. Do not let anyone tell you that you can't do something
    b. You have to do things a certain way, just because it's alway been done that way.

As Henry Ford once said, if he had asked the people what they would have liked as a better mode of transportation, they would have said "Faster horses" (quoting from memory)

    1. How You Think is Everything.
    2. Decide upon Your True Dreams and Goals
    3. Take Action.
    4. Never Stop Learning
    5. Focus Your Time And Money:
Thomas Edison has been famously quoted, “I haven’t failed, I’ve found 10,000 ways that don’t work”. His perseverance and willingness to continue trying led to the creation of the light bulb. How does a leader’s attitude about failure affect the future of an organization? A leader can choose to criticize people who have tried and failed, or choose to empower them with the freedom knowing that failure could facilitate and open doors to superior solutions. Leonard Buhler, President of Power to Change, shares how failure can light the way towards the right direction an organization truly needs.

I have recently started the savings tip- after reading 'The Richest Man in Babylon' I now pay myself first, and invest 10% of my income. It's growing nicely, and I'm sure if I had waited til the end of each month to save instead of doing it as soon as I get paid I wouldn't have saved a third of the amount I have!

It is interesting to me that this thread began almost two years ago,
and yet the things listed then still hold true.

Persistence pays off - a favorite verse of scripture when I am tempted to give up is:
"Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise." Prov. 6:6

Think about the ants - if they stop gathering food they will starve in the winter. Did you ever watch an ant carry a morsel much larger than itself? Maybe it drops it once, twice, numerous times - but the ant doesn't give up. It persists until it gets that tidbit back to the anthill. This is how ants stay alive - persistence when all looks lost.

    Thanks for the post!

Bumping an old one but people do need to see this.

I personally have found power in persistence. Being in IM we are always looking for the next shiny object but unfortunately only the gurus make money that way since we are always buying the latest IM launch.

Only with persistence and focused action have I been able to break this cycle. Now I don't buy much but take action on what I know. That alone helped me make my first $$$ to where now I have quit my job and can travel anywhere and work from the comfort of my home.
