Cooking shows and eating healthy

I love these cooking shows they got now. Makes me want to cook.
But my doctor wants me to watch my fat and cholesterol.

How do these chefs do it? They cook with butter, fat, milk,
cheese, eggs, bacon, burgers, cream, and more...

Very hard to stick to anything healthy while you have people in
your face enjoying all that rich food! My wife has started vegan
cooking and it's been a big help. Tasty food.

But I still marvel at how these huge fat-calorie meals are made
and eaten!

Does anyone here care about their cholesterol and weight? Or do
you just blow it off and think about enjoying life like these TV chefs?

Was in Nashville recently and friends said nobody cares about weight
or healthy in Nashville. Too much barbecue and Southern cooking.

I read your post and i think there would be many people who think like that / a market ?

anyway some just eat that stuff all day if they want and not put on the weight ? cheese / eggs / cream / butter all used to cook with around here and is considered normal / no body is overweight from eating it.

it may be more in the balance and moderation of the foods we eat, than one food type on its own.

I think it is all in the balance and moderation. Also portion control. If you watch portions you can eat what you want. Life is good, but all things in moderation

I always wonder about that too. It seems chefs worry about the taste rather than whether the meal is healthy or not.

I love going out to restaurants but wow do they give you bad portions full of stuff that isn't good for you

All in moderation. I'd like to say to hell with it, enjoy life and eat all you want. But eventually it will catch up with you and you'll be enjoying life a lot less than you would have been if you watched what you ate more.

I've been thinking of trying a vegan diet too. I think it's also about changing your habits. I love dairy but I'm sure if I ate more vegan food and vegetables I'd soon get used to loving that even more.

Im a vegetarian but my diet sucks, I could quite happily live off cheese sandwiches & pizzas. When you mention these chefs use a lot of oils etc, there are healthier alternatives.

I assume that the job of those tv chefs (love those shows myself!) is to show us how to cook great food. After that, the idea seems to be that if we make the meal for our family, everyone will have the willpower to have just a wee little bit of the fat and calorie laden dessert or a tiny portion of a heavy casserole. Unfortunately real life isn't like that and it's very hard to control those portions.

I think they should at least offer a healthier option for some of the ingredients... *someone* with a show used to do that... hmmmm.... I think it was Graham Kerr, the Galloping Gourmet. He'd make his recipe and then have a chart on how to drastically cut the fat and calories. I think we need more of that concept!

I can eat all day long, non-stop and not gain a pound.
Other people like me should embrace the "gift" of great motabolism.

We will never be obese even if we seriously tried.

I love those cooking shows when they have to compete and then something goes wrong like the meal falls on the floor. ahaha

The Nashvillians probably pay a price

Speaking personally, no matter what I see on these programs, you can do some gorgeous stuff with black grapes, kiwi fruit, pineapple, my protein of choice - tends to be meat; blended. I've had fancy fare of all kinds, what I whip up in the blender is light years ahead of that stuff. IMO

Some people those who don't eat gain more weight and those who eat lots and lots they are still the same, slim.. I think we should never bother about increasing weight or reducing weight just eat what you like and be happy..

If you've never read about "The French Paradox" (which aired on 60 Minutes many years ago), do some research on it. You will find a partial answer to your first questions. Another recent study was just in the news a few weeks ago about the same phenomenon.

There are many studies that say things like.. butter.. forbidden by most health nuts today.. is way better then the chemist list of ingredients in margarine...

your grandmother never used margarine... and neither did your grandmothers grandmother.... they used butter.. and they werent over weight... and dont tell me that was 'exercise'... the quality of our foods has changed...
