How Do You Find New Ideas?

I find new ideas for business, writing, etc by continuing to create. I currently have published over 248 videos on youtube in addition to over 300 blog posts and hundreds of articles. The more I create the easier it becomes to attract creative ideas.

Sometimes blocks to creativity arise within me but I realize that blocks are the creation of my ego, so if I created a block I can release it with ease. With some quiet time they dissolve and I am back to receiving inspirational ideas.

Creativity flows to you 24-7, 365. It's up to you to tap into this creative flow.

How do you find new ideas?

    Hi Ryan.

Mostly by reading and thinking. Once I'm learning about something I'm passionate about it's easy to find new ideas, build upon old ones, and keep creating.

Even when I'm starting something "new" more often than not it's partly inspired from other sources.

    Good question.

I watch cnbc, I know it sounds silly but you'll bee surprised at how many hot niches I found on there. It also gives you a gauge of the economy and certain markets.

Great idea tash77. I used to watch cnbc when trading stocks and forex, a gold mine of potential trends over there.

Reading, as others have mentioned, and paying close attention to things that seem to stand out for whatever reason. I'll then take notes on index cards or if I want to explore in more depth, use a notebook. I'll also label the notebook and avoid writing anything unrelated in it. My dad used to copy a lot of stuff in notebooks, but his efforts were in vain, as he failed to label and organize his stuff. He always wanted to write.

      • My best source for new ideas is simply not beating myself up for the 100 other crazy or unusable ideas that I have in between my spectacular ones.

If I beat myself up, then I shut myself down. Yes, I get strange ideas like the short film, "Baby with a hoverbike", but that's just my imagination playing.

Also, I look for problems to solve, rather than dreading them. I have gotten some of my best ideas this way.

And I try not to be afraid of failure. Most people never get off of the starting line because they have already failed in their mind's eye. I look at failure as a learning opportunity. Yes, I have had some spectacular crashes, but I take nothing from them if I don't look at them to see what I need to learn, and what I did wrong.

I write a letter to myself (subconscious) describing what I need. For example if I want an idea for an info product, I tell my subconscious to give me one and that it should suit my desired "specifications" (e.g. which target audience it is for, etc). Then I go do something else, confident that the perfect idea is on its way to me.

I also use a pack of cards with symbols. It's some sort of a brainstorming deck that I designed, and my subconscious uses those symbols to give me messages. Isn't that cool or what?

    Good question.

Something that works for me is activity.

When I am working hard to learn and do things then I find that new ideas seem to come from no where.

When I am more stagnant and just wait for stuff to happen then new ideas (good ones) are fairly rare.

Reading, writing, and working generate the best ideas for me.

    Peace,
    Darren L Carter

  • The primary reason of the excessive amount of ideas I tend to have (about 1000x what I can act upon) is that my choices in life created an underlying mindset of approaching every situation from the perspective of "How can I optimally serve the highest good of all affected?" and with that question constantly running in the background like a computer program and without any attachment or need for specific answers or reward of any sort, my subconscious mind, which is supposedly 10,000,000 times faster than our conscious mind, constantly feeds me the best answers it can come up with...

When you feel the creative juices flowing, ride the current as long as possible... when it fades, simply stop, and switch gears, I usually go an exercise, and by the time I am done, the juices have returned, usually with new clarity and new focus. Letting your brain turn about something, while you do a mindless unrelated task allows it to turn on the power.

Since I do most of my stuff online, I get ideas by perusing the web,
I check out what others in my interests are doing. And some that aren't.
I look for things that I can take and put my spin on it, make it better.

We are living in a world of ideas! Indeed, everything that is surrounding us have born out of ideas in our minds. It is only your perspective should change about the way you look at the world. Our nature is source of great ideas. Virtually, almost all inventions are born out of mimicking our nature. Learn to observe the world with a child like curiosity and enthusiasm. You will be never short of ideas!

I keep a running list of ideas in a Google Docs document. I simply refer to the list when I'm ready to tackle a new project. Some ideas are just a few days old while others are a couple years old, but the list is pretty lengthy ;-)

When I'm alone, my ideas usually come when I'mm relaxed, nothing to do or worry about ("my time"), and I'm sitting by my fountains just daydreaming.
When with others, I like to stage impromptu brain-storming, just to see what comes up. Invaluable the synergy of a group of bright people.

I gues whenever I think of new ideas, "new methods" comes to mind. There are so many various tricks and ways of making money online, and if you just blatantly follow the oversaturated hype you're not gonan get anywhere.

One of the ways is I like to lay down everything I know (method wise) in a diagram or a structure which is being updated daily, and I see what i have to work with. Then I start playing around with it, twisting, replacing removing and adding different parts until I come up with something new to test.

Then rinse and repeat until I've found my own unique method of doing something that has not been saturated and is profitable.

Ideas will come from whatever you expose yourself to. If you are reading a book and you see a problem that a character in the book faces worth solving, there's your idea.

If you're walking down the street and you see someone having a tough time with something, help them solve that problem... there's your idea.

Even in your own life, if you encounter anything that's annoying/problematic for you, you can try to solve that problem.

It's all about what you expose yourself to....

I look at people, places, things, etc around me. I think about them and I try to correlate them vertically and horizontally. Hey, I think and meditate a lot because I know that until my brain sweats, ideas will not come.

    Hi Ryan,

I don't think you do find new ideas - they find you. The key is in allowing your thoughts and ideas to come through and be expressed, and not allowing the ego to censor, (especially if you struggle with low self esteem, which I'm sure doesn't apply to you!)

The paradox is that people are afraid to share their uniqueness whilst at the same time wanting to be free to be themselves. The further down the "freedom" path you allow yourself to travel, the more ideas you will allow through.

I think Wayne Dyer put his finger on it best when he said, "Your opinion of me is none of my business."

    Thoughts?

    Thanks for an interesting post.

    Cheers,
    Trevor.
