Do successful people smoke pot?

So I smoke some weed, big deal, wanna fight about it?

Jk. But on a serious note, do you think successful business men smoke trees? Or is it something they look down on?

Sometimes when high i think to myself "this isn't want a truly successful person would do" and i feel bad...other times when im high i get very proactive and great ideas and get a lot of work done.

Do successful people you know smoke? or do they look down on it?

    Define successful?

Plenty of successful people don't do drugs. Plenty do.
Plenty of poor people don't do drugs. Plenty do.

Personally, I rather be straight edge -- don't drink, smoke, or do drugs.

Natural "high" is the best way to go.

No, if he/she was so successful, why the need to do drugs?

There are tons of music artists and actors who are making millions, but smoke weed on the side. Are they successful people who do drugs? Yet, I'm sure those people also have problems in their lives.

It wasn't the pot itself that made them successful...doing drugs was just their choice of recreation.

With all the crazy crap i see on tv and in movies...i would be VERY surprised to hear that none of the writers were high when writing the script etc.

Sometimes marijuana lets you think outside the box or maybe helps you analyze things in more detail/focus.

I have had times when high that I thought up coolest **** and knew that it would make money, but of course no way for me to accomplish such a crazy idea because I was truly thinking OUTSIDE the box!

I know plenty of people that smoke and think they are very successful... but I must say they all do go to work for someone else... so how do you define successful is the question... many of them are very successful at their marriage or the peace in their soul and they couldn't comprehend not working for someone else... yet they feel successful... I don't think it has anything to do with whether they smoke weed or not... the root is your own personal definition of success and do you feel you have that with who you are. I personally see no use for it in my life... but that is a choice I have made.

Just another varying opinion amongst the millions out there.

What about those with $1 Mil but those money were inherited, won through the lottery, or got lucky through some entertainment stuff. And plenty of millionaire Hollywood celebs (i.e. Paris Hilton) and some sport stars/athletics have smoke pot.

They're successful (in terms of money) and have done drugs.

Do I look up to those Hollywood celebs as role models? Not really...even if they didn't do drugs.

You Hear of people, who do "well' get successful & Basically get Bored, they got to where they wanted But.... What Next?

I Think Either way if you Smoke Weed to Get Stoned/High or Cigarettes to get Relaxed. Both can be seen as a Sign Of Weakness. Smoking a Cigarette like a child holding a Blanket, or a baby sucking on a pacifier to relax, or smoking weed because your bored? or you need the high, because you cant think of better things to do?

I'm Not Judging, Although I Reckon Smoking a Cigarette is more sign of weakness than Pot. Hey either way you shouldn't care what anyone else think's, but if something your doing is having a negative affect on you in anyway, you should stop doing it.

I consider myself very successful by my standards
of successful. And yes, from time to time I do smoke
    weed.

It's a nice feeling, but I'm not a chronic or addicted
smoker. I do it recreationally and when I want a
quick relaxer. Most of the time when I want a buzz,
I meditate or listen to music for a natural buzz.

But sometimes, weed is more convenient...

Everything is ok in moderation. I smoked a couple of weeks ago and felt really zen. It was great. I'm probably not going to smoke for a while now because it will affect the other more important things in my life, eg health and my drive.

Same with video games, I love playing video games but I stick to single player. If I was to get xbox live I would spend so much time gaming I wouldn't socialise, work on projects etc.

Same with drinking, porn (this one is a bit harder to control), bumming around on the net, etc. Sex is ok though, I don't put any limits on sex.

It's all about moderation people. Do not become the couch-potato the media plays stoners out to be. And most importantly do not let it ruin your motivation. If you find it starts to, you needa check yourself and stop smoking.

Check out this documentary about the history of marijuana - really eye-opening

Some very successful people who support the recreational use of marijuana:
      Sir Richard Branson
      Montell Williams
      Joe Rogan
      Stephen King
      Willie Nelson

Others who have admitted to smoking regularly at some time:
      Steve Jobs
      Arnold Schwarzenegger
      Ted Turner
      Bill Clinton
      Barrack Obama
      George Washington

I think that pot helps a lot when you turn on your creative thinking. and I agree with the latter post that says that highly known persons have smoked weed.
Now I used to smoke earlier on my day, but I just cannot cut it anymore because it causes me to be too imaginary & creative and less logical when needed.

I saw a film about Glastonbury festival (on of the biggest rock festivals out there) and the guy in charge Michael Eavis said that because he was the organizer he had to stop doing drugs, because if he's not going to be in charge and make sure everything ticks, then no one else will...

So if you smoke and it doesn't f**k up your work as business owner then it's all good by my perspective.

How do you define success? Is Paris Hilton a success? I feel that mind altering substances do not add to your total as a person. All they seem to do is impair. Later, there is a high cost in repair.

Great inventors live right on the edge, and I feel that drugs can push you off that edge max perm. For some reason creative people seem to crave new experiences.

    As with anything:

    too much leads to addiction
Too little makes for a boring life

We all have our vice> Some it's drinking, some it's smoking (cigs or weed), some it's running 20 miles a day.

Open you mind and release the guilt. The truth and reality is yours to create. If you want to smoke a bong hit and relax that is for you to decide.

Looking at others for approval or as a measure of your "success" tends to make you feel "bad" or "depressed"

Do not worry about others -

Look inside: If you evaluate yourself and your actions. Look how you think, act, and lead your life and decide what is true and right for you.

If you do nothing all day but smoke out, you have no food, you have no shelter, you have nothing, then you have made that choice. No one can tell you if it is right or wrong.

You create your own reality. Create it to include smoking if you want. Create it to include millions of dollars if you want. Create it to include the love of your life if you want.

Get the themes here? It's all about what you want. Not anyone else.

Very good post. I like the way you think. If people stopped worrying about other people and what they think of them this world will be a much happier place. I can't imagine having to live like that even though millions do.

As far as weed goes, Yeah I smoke every now and again and as with anything if you don't abuse it and use in moderation I dont see anything wrong with it. I find I get more creative and have written some of my best autoresponder copy when stoned.

      Cheers

it's just kinda stereotype, nothing absolute. so you can't judge a class of someone by it's personality.

    some simple example:

I smoked in high school, still do from time to time. However, I had straight A's much like most of the other people I hang around with.

Most of the people that had bad grades were actually the "preps" or "jocks"

Many of you have been tooled to believe that marijuana doesn't have any side effects.

    Don't be an idiot.

I was one of those idiots and decided it would be "cool". Now I don't believe a lot of the "danger" ads promoted by the government or "science based" results.

In my research, they dose mice on excessive amounts of it, which would result in skewed research to promote more fear.

Besides that, I don't want to argue on this too much.

I ruined a lot of things because of it. Relationships, my job, and lazy as f*ck. It also made me paranoid. And I know that a lot of people think that it doesn't affect them but it does.

Only when you stop smoking for a long period of time do you realize the massive impact its had on you.

Like I said, don't be an idiot. Successful people should focus on their goals instead of having to have some weed on the side to kill time. That doesn't mean never take a break, just find ways to do something relaxing but moves you forward at the same time.

    Use time more wisely.

Yes! If he's happy with his life then he's a success. If he is genuinely happy then why fault the guy?

I've done every drug under the sun and it's never stopped me making money, in fact it made me happier. There's nothing quite like hallucinogenic drugs to make you really understand that life is a game and EVERYTHING is down to perception. Yakult, yes I did smoke quite a lot. I never thought I would smoke more than once or twice a week.

It got so bad that I smoked it up 3 times a day. Now I hate to say things like this on a marketing forum, but I wouldn't unless I think someone could benefit from it.

It's very easy to take it too far and lose control. Yeah, a lot of people will say that you don't have self control, blah blah blah. But in saying that, "I'll be alright, just take a hit" can get to be a pretty common excuse if you do it for too long.

Sorry for getting a bit arse-y yesterday! Perhaps I could have done with a joint, haha!

You are totally correct about the dangers of taking it too far. I have a seriously addictive personality so I've just made it a rule that I never, ever buy anything myself. If a friend has it, or there's a special occassion, then I'll get involved / pay for some, but I never want to know the source. I figure if the option's never there then you never have to deal with self restraint!

I've got a very good friend who is now addicted to speed and smokes weed every night, at the expense of doing anything else. It's terrible but it's a case of "hate the player, not the game". I know for a fact that if it wasn't drugs then it would just be alcohol!

Sorry again for getting slightly irrate!

EDIT: I too dislike talking about these slightly taboo subjects on such an open forum, but I feel the thing that's plagued this whole issue is secrecy and mis-information so, as you say, perhaps things like these posts will help some people!

Well, if they are SO SUCCESSFUL that they don't have to take care of their own business (they have someone that makes all the minor decisions for him), then they can smoke pot, drink until they drop and whatever.

If the next day they have to manage their business, then I think that it wouldn't be a good advise. Just saying, since I don't do any of those.

It's all about how you handle yourself and the decisions you make as an adult. In this sense, whether or not an individual uses drugs doesn't indicate his or her potential to succeed.

As somebody said above, there are plenty of successful drug users, unsuccessful users, successful abstainers and unsuccessful abstainers. What does that tell you?

I personally don't smoke, but I have friends who do. I tried it, didn't like how it was affecting me (I'd started to forget things), so I stopped. I do, however, enjoy drinking, but alcohol is NOT required for me to have a good time.

I've succeeded in some areas in my life, where others I've totally managed to fall on my face > Whatever I do, though, I do *not* let myself become dependent on an external substance. I have to take responsibility for my own actions, regardless of whether I've used anything recreationally.

Pot is psychologically addictive, but effects different people in different ways - personally, I've never been interested in trying it but I've also noticed that people whom have used it have had different effects. One friend of mine became a complete drop out after trying it, most others it hasn't really had a visible effect in my opinion - friends of mine whom are lawyers, policemen, doctors etc.

I note that you already smoke it, in my opinion the only barrier is likely to be an emotional barrier that you create for yourself "boundary rationality." Just go for it.

I feel for sure you can be successful and smoke pot. I always think of Natalie Portman who filmed Star Wars, went to Harvard and smoked pot, all at the same time.

I don't have any delusions about it. Pot, for the most part, kills people's drive and desire to achieve goals, but there's always exceptions.

    Hello,
I define smoking pot as a GATEWAY drug, there will be many people that disagree with this but you can ask any user of drugs how they started and they say they started with pot.
Drugs leads to crime plain and simple, in order to get the drugs you will do just about anything to pay for your fix.
Successful people do not need this excuse to justify anything, pot smokers will say this to justify their addiction.

Good gawd. Get some updated info please. Since all heroin users started on weed it must also mean all pot users will one day become heroin users. That logic is ridiculous. Me? I'd rather work with someone getting their bake on than someone prone to drinking.

I run a 25k a month business. Would you call me a criminal if once a month I hit a friend's water bong?

Even when I was younger and baking regularly I had no problem bringing in consistent six figure incomes. Plus believe it or not I wasn't out committing crimes to get my "fix" on.

Your statements about pot smokers are right out of the fifties man.

When I was in high school and college I occasionally smoked pot. When I was in my early twenties I got to the point to where I was ready for a new direction in my life. Once I quit smoking I felt that my self esteem improved and I became a much more productive person. I believe for most people, and including myself, marijuana's biggest downside is the way it takes away your motivation.

It all depends on your mindset- there is nothing wrong with smoking pot as long as you can still handle your business, if you can maintain that balance smoke away! I can't, so unfortunatly I had to quit. Success is more important to me then sitting around smoking weed with my buddies.

An episode of South Park of all things put it very well..... "There is nothing wrong with smoking weed, but it makes you OK with being bored, when instead of being bored you should use that time to better yourself" I was high when I saw it so I don't remember exactly how it went, but it was something like that.

haha i remember that episode. The way i figure it, I work really hard full time at my job, I even study during my lunch breaks to gain more knowledge, when i get home after the long day, i like to light one up, play some xbox and lounge, but sometimes getting high will even make me get into my work at home.

I've never done drugs so it's hard to say. However, I think it's obvious that some successful people do/have smoked pot. I don't condone it but I think it is so prevalent that its hard to suggest that no one who is successful smoked pot.

I do not think that the act of smoking or not smoking pot in itself defines success or failure. Each person is different and I am sure that at least a few of the people that I aspire to have smoked pot at one time or another.

As for me, I find that it is detrimental to accomplishing tasks at hand and an easy routine to fall into. Therefore I stay away.

Pot can definitely help with stress though, very calming. And I've never believed that bs about it being a gateway drug, I nor others I know had any inkling to try anything else, now I do know others that have gone into other "directions" especially durring back in school, but not b/c of pot, some started with other substances or did other stuff they wanted to try and would have still regardless of any pot use.

Look at drinking, way more dangerous and deadly and brings out the worse in people, yet it's legal.... whats the worst thing some pot head is going to do, steal a bag of cheetos from Publix

And when I had my finance and consulting biz, I worked with plenty of key players down here, ceo's etc, you'd be surprised at how many actually freely smoked pot.

  • I do not think that smoking weed should be associated in any ways with success or failure as it literally harms the efficiency of the human brain.

I used to smoke a bit myself, didn't do me that much harm, but didn't produce any great creative ideas either.

It is an escape from reality. If you can learn to love life just as it is, then the need to escape will be less.

If you smoke it occasionally it shouldn't affect you too much. But you could try learning some good meditation techniques, get high naturally!

Wow there are so many outdated and stereotypical thoughts and comments in this thread that aren't based on any real facts. If you don't think successful people enjoy a smoke once in a awhile then you probably don't know many successful people.

    Hey Noob,

It's been months since you posted this but I've gotta respond anyways ....

Your question sort of presupposes that there is a distinct definition of what right or wrong, good or bad is, and that successful people ONLY do what's right.

Sure, there's a lot of people think that smoking pot is wrong ... sure, one could argue it jacks up your brain cells and probably has a lot of evidence to it, and use that argument to support why successful people wouldn't do it ...

But really ... it comes down to your own personal beliefs and what you're doing.

Personally, I don't smoke. I never have nor do I have any interest. Do I think it's wrong? Absolutely not ... who am I to say that?

I think what it does come down to though is simply moderation in any form ...

I would bet if you're toking it up all day long, every day, for years on end, that yea ... you're probably gonna have a hard time being focused on being successful and doing what it takes to get there ...

You'd probably have the same problem if you were jerkin' off that same amount of quantity and consistency as well ...

...And the same problem if you were rubbing tanning lotion on yourself with the same quantity and consistency.

Do you see what I'm getting at? Be willing to let go of the polar views of right or wrong, good or bad. Figure out what works for you.

If you want to be in the camp that 'cherishes your body like a temple' and put in only things that serve it in positive ways, then do that ...

If you want to be in the camp of addicts and smoke every single day all day long, then do that.

If you want to be in the camp that like's to toke it once a day, or every now and then, and you really feel it helps you with your concentration and focus to use it to relax every now and then ... then cool, do it.

    With Love & Gratitude,
