Do You Believe In Luck?

I feel that luck is an opportunity which had been formerly screaming at you to allow it into your life.

Every situation has its origin in you.

What do you think?

Yes there is a luck factor....it is intangible but sure there is a luck factor. I can't remember who it was, but, there was a guy who played football that had no intention of being a professional football player. Not only did he become a pro football player but he also went to the hall of fame. Another recent similiar example is Karl Malone who just went to the basketball hall of fame. Though, both players played hard there must have been natural talent there and also injury prevention that helped them along the way to be able to make it happen.

I think luck is different --- it's a matter of being in the right place at the right time. In order for that to happen, you have to sort of help things along by preparing in advance.

Chance, to me, means a random event. You "just happen" to meet the right person or attend a networking event, and get lucky, meaning you could find a bag of money or get a job. You didn't plan and/or prepare or expect anything to happen, but it did.

I agree. But I think luck comes with the positive frame of mind when you expect in the mind for things to do right. There's a big thing to do with the Law of Attraction her. Look it up on Google im sure you'll find loads on it. The used to be a great website called Universeofpower.com.

I believe that we create our "luck".
It is not something that is imposed on us by an outside force or something.
Our luck factor depends on the state of our mental "vibes" and our "energy".
The best way to boost our luck is to believe that we are lucky and that we attract nothing but good things.

We don't create luck. We prepare for its arrival. Our preparation, and "eye to see it," is what determines if we will maximize an opportunity when it arrives.

Keep your eyes open, and keep preparing for the opportunities you most want to see. They always come.

      Exactly.

You can prepare all you want and be positive all you want, if luck is there, then this is when the good opportunity comes. Luck is essential for success.

Some have it. Good things come to them naturally, without them looking. Some don't have luck. For some others luck never comes however convinced that it's going to come and believe and think positively.

It can only be karma. I can't see any other reason. This is the only logical way to explain it.

There is definitely something called luck - when you play Monopoly and throw 1+2 to buy your third house, that's a luck.

I agree fully with the 'no such thing as luck' take.

We create our experience on a subconscious level. When something seems lucky, it was the god-like part of you called the subconscious mind which created the opportunity.

"Believing" in luck is not what makes it happen. Luck (when opportunity meets preparation) is a simple and demonstrable principle of the universe.
Believing, however, is part of the preparation necessary to receive it, now isn't it. ;-)

Luck is a man-made concept to describe . Do I believe in it...who knows!

But what I do know is that I don't and never will rely on luck. I believe in hard work and being passionate about what I'm doing. The truth is that people who work hard and stay active, are more 'lucky' than people who dont work hard and dont stay active.

I can control my work ethic and activity, so thats what I focus on. When people say I am lucky to be where I'm at, all I say is 'sure I'm lucky, if you would get off your butt and work as hard as I do, you will be lucky as well'.

Its a very interesting concept though!

Luck is a four letter word the lazy and unimaginative of the world cling to like a life buoy. Me, I prefer the word PERSISTENCE when it comes to building my business. You pit a lucky guy and a persistent guy against one another in the marketplace and I guarantee you over time the more successful of the two will be the persistent one.

Well said Matt! Plus, why rely on something you cant control (should you believe in luck). Rely on what you can control like persistance, dedication, working hard, staying action, etc

I guess this is a matter of semantics! "luck v. chance"

for me? chance and luck are 100% not the same thing.
chance is probability or odds. like saying "there is a one
is twenty chance that each person I mail will make a purchase"

so I would be expecting 100 to produce 5 sales, IF they all
happened in the first 5-10 mails? I would say "wow that was
      a lucky thing!"

so I guess I am saying that luck (for me at least) is when the
odds come your way faster than expected.

matt mentioned persistence .. this is part of my mantra
"persistence, perseverance, & perspicacity" (google the last if needed)

remember this! when you go to Vegas? you are hoping and playing
for 'luck', while the casinos are banking on 'chance' to win the day
      .

I do know what you mean seobro. What's the definition of good luck anyways. Is it being in the right place at the right time? If so the harder one works the more opportunities they will come across in the course of that work. Which will in turn increase their chances at being in the right place at the right time.

    Great discussion on this thread.

One thing which troubles me - maybe the wrong word, actually no, it's the right word - is the general lack of knowledge about the subconscious mind.

Guys, we create our own reality! Before you say that you don't believe in luck, study the subconscious mind in DEEP DETAIL. I mean, really delve into it. It will change your viewpoint about words like luck and chance.

We are co-creators with God. If it happened, "it" had its root cause in you.

Can you grasp some of the things which happen in your life on a conscious level? No. But that doesn't make these occurrences "lucky" circumstances, and just because you can't logically explain something doesn't mean that you didn't cause it.

Thanks for the awesome feedback guys. Study the subconscious, especially The Power of Your Subconscious Mind by Dr. Joseph Murphy, it's an awesome read.

Nothing if you become terminally ill. (Just an example.)

I'm reminded of this quotation from Bob Parsons (CEO GoDaddy.com) "Lighten up. Often, at least half of what we accomplish is due to luck. None of us are in control as much as we like to think we are."

Still, that doesn't mean that we can't make the most of the luck (good and bad) that comes our way.

      Thank you, Ryan.

Good to see you back. I'm not sure what it is, but you add something to the discussion.

I began reading "The Power Of Your Subconscious Mind" but put it down when the author kept taking quotations from the Bible out of context and saying that Jesus (or whomever) was referring to the subconscious mind when he wasn't.

That was a long time ago though, and I may start reading it again. I appreciate the reminder.

    Hi Jonathan,

    I appreciate the kind words

Being raised Catholic I kind of look past the references to Christ. Actually, they could have referenced Muhammed, the Torah or Buddha. All one source, just like you and me so if recounting their stories imparts some form of wisdom, I am wide open. I view each religious belief which is in harmony with universal forces to be God speaking through a different vehicle.

As for Jesus referring to the subconscious, that's open to interpretation for sure. He never referenced it directly. I feel that if there's a part of us which Christ may have been speaking about - like when he said anything I can do, you can do even greater things - was the subconscious or the superconscious mind, both of which we have access to as long as we breathe. Kind of an awesome concept which brings chills to me when I tell my ego and thinking mind to shut the heck up and listen.

Thanks for sharing your insight and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

It is also true that one person's "opportunity" may be another person's nightmare.
(The 16-year-old jazzed about getting a summer job at McD's will likely not relish the same "opportunity" at age 35.)
