Why don't we stay motivated?

Why is it that you can read something inspiring and say that is great. You might even be revved up for a few days to try it, and, then you go back to your unsatisfactory habits/life. I read somewhere something to the effect that there was a study that said 4 in 10 people won't change if their life depended on it.

(Note:Not sure the number or what the reference was for).
#motivated #stay
  • Most people are lazy.

They know that they are excited and motivated by reading something good, they know that they'd get greater rewords if they keep doing what they discovered, but yet they go back to their usual habits that have less impact on their lives because they are easier. Maybe they don't have enough passion for the new discovery, or loose focus on what they doing. If you are not passionate about what you are doing, it just becomes painful activities, no one wants to keep doing such thing. Or, If you don't see the rewards for a long time, you lose focus and start thinking quitting. Those people have no one but themselves to blame for their current status because that is the result of the choices they have made till today. When you are inspired, motivated or energized, start taking actions. Don't waste your time on reading more inspiring stories, save them for later. Once you've taken action, especially when you know your action was a good one, that will motivate you and continue making you taking more actions.

People like to stay within their comfort zones and when it comes to hard work we get excited about the results we know we can achieve but the amount of effort it takes seems to get the best of us. And my first thought too was that people are lazy and don't want to work hard to get what they want. Not everybody of course... but many.

As mentioned often times people are just lazy. But a related reason is that people are forgetful.

They read it and it jolts their mind and brain but they forget it after a couple days. It's also sort of the in the moment kind of feeling. When you forget the feeling and the experience. Just as when you go down a rollercoster you feel the thrill. Sure you remember it but you can't have the same feeling.

Integrity is the most important--and most commonly shared--character trait of the truly successful.
Without Integrity, one's Vision is faulty, so one's goals are misguided, and even "success" in the venture fails to enrich life and increase peace.
Motivation is an emotion. Integrity is Who You Are.

Well, for some, the results (completion of project, initial sales, more opt-ins) don't happen soon enough for some people, who may initially work hard for good results.

Another reason could be an obstacle that just seems to take forever to get around. The longer it takes to solve, the more motivation disappears. If this situation continues, the motivation dwindles to zero.

Another reason is procrastination. When progress doesn't happen fast enough, it is easier to say that you'll do the work tomorrow. And of course, tomorrow never comes.

And yeah, laziness is also possible. But I think that the real reason is that many IMers become impatient too quickly and give up when positive results don't happen right away.

I think it maybe lack of stimulation....this is the reason people jump from program to program, seminar to seminar, book to book, relationship to relationship. The excitement dwindles that was there in the begginning. Kinda like christmas, your excited for your toys the first day and as time pass you need something new.

One solution is if your surrounded by people who you want to be like (because it is a form of peer pressure) your chances will be a tad bit better to succeed, imo.

The story is told of a man who moved into a new neighborhood.
As he would walk to the bus stop every morning to work, he
would walk pass a home that had a moaning dog on the porch.
Every day he would walk pass the house and every day the
same dog would be on the same spot; just moaning.

So one day he sees the owner of the home sitting on the porch,
virtually oblivious to the moans of the dog. He then decided to
ask why the dog was moaning. The owner replied...

..."Well son because he's actually sitting on a nail."

Surprised and shocked the young man asked the owner, "Why
doesn't the dog move?" the owner looked at the young man and
replied, "Because it doesn't hurt him bad enough."

A lot of times individuals lose their drive/original inspiration due
to a lack of passion. If their reason its large enough; if they aren't
passionate in what they are doing, they'll lack the fuel needed
    to accomplish a goal.

I agree with this. I also think sometimes people just don't believe they can actually do it, and that quickly ends any "dream" they might have.

I think what is needed is the right mix of motivation and stress.

Too little stress, and any bit of motivation may not last because there isn't necessarily a sense of urgency.

Too much stress, and a person may be strongly motivated, but they may also not know what direction to go and can't focus or think clearly enough to figure something out.

Both the stress and the motivation have to be hitting on the right cylinders in order to move someone forward.

Staying motivated needs a strong reason. Strong desire and never giving up nature are the success ingredients. Most people drop out when the mission they are on get tough or difficult. Only who stands the test of time with perseverance and patience, can reach the goal.

The same thing applies to any business venture, including IM. One should pursue the target to achieve online income even when no drop of dime heard from the efforts put. Only who stands the test of rigor of IM can win and prosper while rest complain their pathetic life.

I totally agree with this. A strong set of mind and a clear direction that have some good supports along the way. Always have to keep up and get never let things get the best of you.

I think it is human mentality. We can’t hear or read inspirational story or inspirational lines daily. Suppose sometime we get person who are so active fresh and inspirational, but he is with us daily then it will become routine. They can’t work every time.

I think people are just expecting for their dreams to come true. I really do. It is almost as if everyone thinks that the world is just like Mickey Mouse says it is and you can whatever your heart desires.

Unfortunately the real world works so differently. I remember selling an informational product a few months ago and it was amazing how many emails I got asking if what I talked about in the book was "easy."

I replied by stating that if you want "easy" continue going to your nine to five job. That is easy. Creating your own business, whether online or offline is a hard gig, and should be left to those who want to eat, sleep, and breathe the business until it can thrive on its own.

It's one thing wanting to be a rockstar, and a completely different thing by having the talent and drive to be a rockstar.

Same principle applies in every scenario in life. I have had countless friends tell me that they don't want to start a business because its too hard, yet they bitch about their nine to five life. They can't stand the fact that getting exactly what they want in life means that they are going to have to work damn hard for it.

Scientifically, it is because of dopamin. Which is a neurochemical produced in the mid-brain. It is known to affect our mood and motivation in the sense that it makes us more acceptant. As with most other science, there are obviosly no blueprint answer to all its qualities and reasons for existence, but production is believed to be enhanced in moment of excitement or intensity (exersize, sex etc.) and also by certain types of food. So.. in a moment of excitement you produce more dopamin and become more acceptant. When you can´t re-create the same excitement, you are not.

To make that more understandable. Compare dopamin to be your motivational binoculars. When you are offered the chance to look through them you can see much further than you normally would, therefore you also more likely to become motivated to "reach further". In this particular moment you can see and understand parts of this world that is far away from "where you are" (mentally). You get excited - and you believe that these beautiful places is reachable, simply because you can see them with your own eyes (read: feel them). The problems is that when you wake up the next day - they are not there. They are an image in your conscious memory. You remember them, even on an emotional level, but you can´t re-experience them. Day two, day three, day four (needs more than four days, but to stay connected to the example). The memory is still there, though less emotional on the conscious level (and is moving to the sub-conscious). And when we don´t FEEL the alive memories no more, they become nothing more than dead pictures (or words). However, if we experience the same VIEW or things that resembles, we might bring back the same emotions from the sub-conscious. But unless that is the case, we are obviously not able to connect to the past emotional motivation... and therefore... don´t stay motivated

    Bottom line,

You have to see/feel your goals to be able to reach them. And if you can´t see it in constant distance, then, as the poster above stated, try to look at it / feel it in short glimpses daily (or even better, split your main goal into sub-goals that feels achievable. And take step by steps up to the achievement of your ultimate goal).

Sometimes we humans tend to act like sponges. What happens after you press a sponge? It comes back to its original shape. I remember reading somewhere that some people have definite "set points" such as "financial set point". If you have $1000 extra dollars in your account. You'll want to spend it until you get rid of each and every penny to return to your original state.

Take Donald Trump for an example. He lost billions, made them again. How? Because that was his financial set point. Same goes for motivation. If you're internally committed to change or to do something you intended to do, then you do it. If your heart isn't in it, then you fall back into the same old patterns.
