Why you should set goals

It is very important that we set goals. Here are some of the reason why we should set goals.

1. It gives you direction.

If you dont have goals you wont really have a direction you are heading in so it is very important that you goals to know where you should be heading.

2. It makes life worthwhile.

Some people today have lost their will to live and if they had just tried to achieve some goals they might begin to see life differently. Jim Rohn said the greatest pull on your life should be the pull of the future.

3. It just makes sense

Most people have no list of goals that they want to achieve. It just makes sense to write down what we want to achieve because we will end up just living life day to day and at the end of our life we will be thinking of all the things we should have done but failed to do.

This is just a small list and I am sure you all can add to this list but the main thing is that we should set goals.

The first reason most people write goals is so that they can actually have something to achieve.
But those goals which arise naturally from one's Vision and Integrity are the ones with greatest value for life, both as you strive toward them and once they are achieved.

I cannot agree enough. No goal is like a headless chicken heading nowhere.

I set SMARTER Goal. A SMARTER Goal is Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time Bound, Emotional and Review. With this 6 alphabets, My goal is extremely focus, highly achievable and hard to give up.

The best part is when I continuously hit my SMARTER goals, I get more confidence and hungry for more success.

This type of goal is hard to set if you are new to it but once you do it continuously and get the hang of it, it will become part of you and you will become a highly effective individual.

If you aim at nothing, you get nothing in return. Goal are essential to stay on track. I do need flexability too, but goals are necessary to know that I have achieved my desire.

Setting goals is like having a map to assist you in reaching your destination.

Several years ago I purchased a series of cassette tapes on the importance of setting goals by Zig Ziggler. I have listened to them several time and they are always inspirational and I find a new tidbit each time.

      It's been a while since I had them out----maybe it's time again.

Written goals are vital to your success. Goals have to be specific which also means time specific.

        WARNING !

How many have had goals that have lost their power, effect or punch with time? WHY?

I became very aware of the VALUE of goal setting in the early 80's. However, I found that goals tend to lose their impact after 12 months or so. Sure one can reset goals as most would say to do, however that is largely not understanding what the real issue is !

What does one have to do ... to have really passionate, powerful and meaningful goals?

In the 80's and 90's, there is one subject that was not being commonly addressed.

ONE MUST FIND OUT ONE'S LIFE PURPOSE .. FIRST .. BEFORE WORKING OUT ONE'S GOALS !

I was challenged by John Kalench in one of his books on HOW to work out one's specific Life Purpose. There is a specific technique for this. After doing the exercise, if what one believes is one's Life Purpose is NOT about contribution to others, then one has NOT found one's Life Purpose ... start again UNTIL one finds this.

It is far easier to work out one's real, Life Purpose AFTER one has removed all one's non-serving, sub-conscious blockages, baggage or imprints, permanently and one has spiritual freedom and preferably spiritual compatibility also, as Love is so powerful.

        ******
Once one knows one's Passionate Life Purpose, this is what gets one out of bed everyday, Self motivates and keeps one focused. After knowing one's Life Purpose, one should THEN create goals, then tasks, that ALL SERVE to make the Life Purpose happen with passion. ******

Written goals also provide focus, it is as important to know what you are not working on as what you are working on.

The funny thing about setting goals, as I used to listen to everything
by Brian Tracy, is that they seem to put my mind in a rigid state of
      being - producing stress.

Then I learned to have outcomes written down, but open my mind up
to wherever the universe takes my direction.

I find that strict goals prevents openness, restricts the mind, and entices
      stress when something changes.

Also good to write them down if you have a lot of goals, you might not be able to keep them all memorized on the top of your head. Also to categorize them and deadline them.

Thank you, Colin!!! EXACTLY my thought:
People set REAL goals because they can do no other! Their goals are the NATURAL and inevitable overflow of Who They Are.
Those goals alone will bring the Only True Freedom.
    Colin, you said it marvelously.

Having leverage and good reasons behind your goal is important. Don't just set a random arbitrary goal for the sake of completing it. Do things that you are passionate about for sure.

  • Nice little list... the main reason why I set goals, is because goals provide me direction for future action, and therefore to the outcome that I want to achieve...

23% of the population has no idea what they want in life.
      67% have a general idea.
10% have specific, well-defined goals. Only 7 out of 10 reach their goals half of the time.

The top 3% achieve their goals 89% of the time.
WHY? .... Because they wrote them down and reviewed them regularly.

Interesting stats ... Is it true ? Where did you get it from ?

Must stop beating up for not achieving some of my goals

Most people only achieve their goal 50% of the time

I don't set a goal just not to hit

I expect to reach to hit all the time but sometimes because you just don't hit the goal when you set

No one hits 100% of the time but without goals you are ending the wrong direction and probably wating your life

I find telling yourself specifically what it is you want to achieve, and by what time frame (SMART goals) really makes things easier and more realistic.

    For example:

"I want to be making 10 sales per day of product X, by September 2011, bringing in an approximate revenue of $458 per day".

Remember that sentence, and the things you do will naturally lead to that conclusion.

There are short term goals these resemble plans and you may intend to achieve them through a particular method or route. There are long term goals that turn into visions and these whatever methods or routes we take, we still intend to achieve them or get there

True, true. Setting goals will give you the direction and to make sense of everything instead of doing it blindly. Also to minimize or even avoid unnecessary expenses.
