I go for a walk in nature, usually by water. That really relaxes me.

its useful but not always. Let's say you live in downtown. What are you going to do?

Put on your noice-cancelling Bose headphones with waterfalls and animal music and let your mind go and you will be close to the real thing. Maybe find a fountain or something.

Oh, make sure you dont get too taken into your nature fantasy world on your walk that you forget to watch for for cars!

I was really stressed and couldn't get anything done last night, but today I woke up after a rejuvenating 9 hour sleep and finished up my 25 article project to one of my money sites and submitted everything to EZA, as well as made some site modifications and added some content upgrades.

Sleep it off, but before you go to sleep, set yourself a tangible goal like "finish this project" or "make this thing work" for the following day. That way, the next day after you've relaxed, you don't end up crashing and just sitting around to "rejuvenate" yourself.

It will make you feel better anyways.

Don't Sweat the Small Stuff... (and it's all small stuff), by Richard Carlson makes the essential point:
Attempting to "increase your tolerance for stress" will result in only one, predictable, outcome: You will pick up MORE stress, because now you can tolerate more.
The answer: LOWER your tolerance for stress. Don't tolerate it. Lessen the stressors in your life--by hook or by crook. Cut the dead wood.

I think the most important thing here is training yourself to understanding who you are and how you react to different stimuli, and then slowly train yourself to react different.

If a certain thing brings you stress, you can either avoid that thing or try and just adjust your reaction to it. Some things cant be avoided so the latter part about changing how you react to the given stimuli is uber important.

From Psychology 101, stress is a natural mechanism that is actually intended to help us but it can be destructive as well. The great thing is that it can be managed and controlled.

Well in my opinion it's different for every individual. What works for you could not work for me. If I'm stressed out I need an activity that allows me to "let go" or basically distracting myself (in a positive sense) and releasing the blocked energy. Sports work fine for me and even doing some creative stuff helps me too.

Acknowledge that your brain needs a break and do something that you love to do instead. You'll interrupt that stress and replace and soothe it with things that make you happy. Exercising, as others have pointed out, is a great idea. Cycling has helped me to work off anger quite a few times. On returning home, I showered and relaxed. My stress and anger had disappeared!

Visualization works really well for me. Before I start working, I sit and breathe deeply, and then visualize what I want to accomplish in that day, or that sitting.

"Finish this e-book chapter." or "Write 5 articles in the next hour." are mantra's that work. If I can get more specific, I do.

Clearly picturing myself fulfilling the work I need and want to do takes a lot of the stress off for some reason.

I stop and take a deep breath, then I think about things that I am grateful for and begin to get into a thankful mode. Once I am calm and clear then I visualize completing my tasks at hand.

Also I take a break and walk the dog. I decide to chunk my work load down instead of making it a mountain, I make it a mole hill.

I appreciate the great remarks by others.

Yes, you are spot on. Whenever I'm stressed, I take a very deep breath. Take a walk for at least 10-15 minutes. Look for something to laugh or smile about.

And don't forget the benefits of meditation--not just breathing, but focusing the mind on your breathing--against stress.

Still, I say get rid of the stress. Lower your tolerance for it. And it won't come as heavily.

When I get into too much stress, nothing helps, except spending time somewhere else, doing different things then sitting in front of computer. You need some small time off, and you need to use it wisely for your relaxation, whatever you want and love to do.
