Jim Rohn AWLAYS talks about meeting his mentor Earl Schoaff when he was only 25 years old. But he never says EXACTLY how they met. But he obviously made a huge impact in his life.

Do you have a mentor? Where do you find a mentor? I am looking for someone to mentor me and help me get where they are, but I don't know how to just meet someone older and successful.

Words of wisdom are very important. I tried searching for successful people in my area and no much luck...just george stienbrener and he isn't here anymore..

Depends on what area of your life. Try to get a mentor for each area of your life. I have personal friends who help me with fitness. They have won states and some are certified personal trainers. Good to have friends like these, it saves you money haha.

For academics I have friends who are super motivated. One guy just got his masters degree with a 4.0, and another friend who has a 4.0 who wants to be a doctor. And my cousin who has like a 3.9, sister who was valedictorian, and many other friends who have given me school advice and tips.

For business I have friends who own businesses, etc. But you might have to pay somebody for a mentor in this area. If you can't get one for free, hire one.

I have a singing teacher, guitar teacher, and piano teacher. Had a martial arts teacher for a while. And teachers and mentors in basically all areas of my life. Define success first, find out specifically what you want, and find somebody like you who has actually achieved these goals the way you want them in the area of life that you want to achieve them. And get their mentorship. If they won't do it for free, pay them.

Also nothing is for free in life. I treat my academic buddies to lunch. My sister and cousin obviously won't charge me. And my fitness buddies don't charge me because I am basically up to par with them. I'm almost competition level and in really good shape, so it's not like a super scrawny guy slowing them down. Although I'm not as in good shape as them. Don't try to leech advice and wisdom from people, it's kind of disrespectful to expect somebody who is an expert in their field of knowledge to help you for free out of charity. Imagine trying to get Anthony Robbins to help you for free because it's the "right thing to do."

    Hope that helps, good luck.

Call me an Idealist, but I never found a mentor (and I've had several throughout my life).
    The Mentor always found me.
That is the ideal of the principle of mentorship: The mentor finds the student.
Don't settle for less. Otherwise is contrived.
(And recognize, the Mentor will likely not be any that I would choose. Nor his/her guidance. That's the magic.)

I've had a similar experience sparkie. I've attracted mentors...perfect place, perfect time type deal, always when I wasn't looking for one.

Most of the time I didn't realize they were mentors until weeks or years after I met them.

A mentor you have to be able to give your respect and confidence. Most people if you ask them for their advice will give it for free. A mentor, you value his advice. The willingness to learn from everyone, even the child, will be important. All can teach you something.

A mentor usually appears as someone who has walked your path before, someone that you can at least look up to. They do save time in your development and are worth reaching out to.

A mentor in life is important. I figured my relationships had to be good to at least three people with whom I could connect when I'm in a situation that needs help. Find three friends. Good freinds. not the football and beer friends. The stickaroundandpickyouupat3amattheairporttypeoffrei nds. Keep looking making them till you have at least 3 in your life. And then keep improving them, upgrading your freiinds, ones that are sage.

Yep, and make older freinds. Honestly, as folks age, their freinds are passing away, so you will be beneficial to them in keeping them young and connected to youth, you.

Your mentor must not have direct contact with you.

To me, anyone whose book influences my life is my self-improvement mentor. Anyone whose business model influences my business decisions is my business mentor.

    Just my thought.

"When the student is ready, the teacher will appear"

      - the teacher or master is the mentor - and when you're ready and focused (mind/body/soul) - he or she will appear!

I have a mentor. And its right, that sometimes its the mentor who finds the person to be mentored. As we all, there will be no mentorship if there is no MENTOR, the final say would always be the MENTOR choosing or making a decision to mentor someone. For a lot of different reasons, But usually, the case is that the mentor saw or feel something towards the person that he had been through on what the person is actually going through in the present. They feel somekind of sympathy/empathy towards the person. And they feel that they want to help or assist the person. I believe having a mentor is one of the greatest privilege in life. Having someone that will show you the blueprint, the map, the guide, someone that will walk with you as you explore life. You have that confidence that you cant get wrong because you have someone that have been there and pass through that path. How good is that feeling right?

Well.I hope you will finally find yours. Just be open to other people and be sincere.

Yes, I think mentors emerge. The best ones aren't sought, they naturally show up when you least expect it....thats why they are powerful.

My mentor thus far has always been a positive attitude. Sure it would be nice to have someone outside yourself to be accountable to but if you don't have that don't let that stop you. I believe in staying positive about any problems I encounter along the way. I believe thoughts are magnetic always believe there is a solution and one will appear. This has never failed me. Between this type of belief and using tools like google or forums like this. Also (as far as internet marketing) there are great programs out there that for a reasonable monthly fee will basically mentor you if your willing to do the work and stay motivated on your own. Hope this helps.

A while back I stumbled onto who offered video training courses where he showed and explained how he has used the internet to make millions over the last few years. He keeps a low profile and tells it like it is. You really need to understand that there is no short-cut to millions, but there are many tools and techniques that you must understand.
As we started talking, I found that my perspective for marketing online changed dramatically! I went from a "sell attitude" to "how can I help"

I found my Mentor at a internet marketing seminar. i wont say how i came to work with him (advertising = no no) but i would say a business mentor can help you 10 fold. Your taking all of the things that they have spent money on, tried, if it hasnt work, they WONT tell you to do it! Thats invalueable in my eyes. Takes the Trial and Error out of IM and gets you on the track to making money.

    Just my 2 pence

There are mentors everywhere - if you're ready they'll show up in your life. I had them for free first and somehow didn't get their message in IM. Later I joined the mentoring program of the person who mentored me for free and am really glad I did. Mostly because now I have to tick if I did the required action steps or not. Previously I just changed things to how I felt about them - that is didn't follow through and my results were not good.

If you want a mentor in IM you can join a webinar program as well - it doesn't have to be where you live. Let me know if you are still looking for one and what exactly you are looking for and I'll see how I can help you best.

    Wish you all the best!

I'd say go out and actively look for successful people who could possibly mentor you, and offer them something. Anything, even if its doing there shopping, just something that would help them in exchange for some mentoring and im sure someone would accept
