Extreme tips to get focused and productive (and I mean, EXTREME!)

30 replies
Hello,

I've been posting here on Warrior Forum for some days and I've got to say:

I've learn a lot on this few days. But the problem was, when I turn on my PC, I just couldn't start working properly and started randomly browsing the web.

Most of you expert Warriors should be thinking right now: "Why? You just have to start doing, it's pretty easy!".

Well, every human is different and I'm sure that there are a lot of you guys that have the same problem that I have: You can't get easily focused on a task and start being more productive.

I will share with you a list of tips I use that really helped me out with this problem:

1 - Use a to-do list! Personally, I have a Premium Remember The Milk account. I've used some others, but this one is my personal favorite;

2 - Get something to make notes on your phone; If you use a smartphone and RTM, you can add tasks anywhere you are. If you don't, just use the Notes software on your phone and when you get access to a PC, update RTM.
Personally, I always remember that I've got to do or test something at random moments. I'm always with my iPhone, so I just add the task to do it later;

3 - Set your homepage on the task management software. Well, this was the extreme step I had to do. I had all the tasks and stuff on RTM, but I was not being really productive. After this, every time I open my browser, I see my to-do lists.

Maybe lots of you are thinking that this is useless, but I hope that someone takes good use of this, as I did.

    Great tips, Rui!

    Take action, stay focused and keep always well organized.

    I use a tasks lists and since I started using it my productivity levels simply grew tremendously. Here is a thread where I shared the "simple tool" that I use to manage my tasks:

    http://www.warriorforum.com/ad-netwo...your-time.html

    It's just a simple Excel spreadsheet, but it makes wonders for me!

    Hi Rui,

    I like the tech-related tips, great stuff.

    I'm big on To-Do lists. Lists create order in your mind which promotes laser-like focus.

    For me I would say going to the Gym helps me to stay focused. You feel better and more energetic for it. It is also a good opportunity to take a break and gain a fresh mind!

      I think that too. It helps us to exactly know what to do next and stop wasting time thinking on that.

      I also go to the Gym, but I usually go at the end of the day and when I get home I'm usually too tired to think.
      Of course, with "lite" Gym sessions it would improve your capability of focusing.

    Don't forget the #1 principle of "getting to it":
    The reason people can't say "No" to certain things is because they are not listening to the bigger "Yes!" burning within them.
    Or to put it positively:
    In order to say "No" to time-wasting, procrastination or distractions, just tap into the bigger "Yes!" burning within you.

    The To-Do List is really good, because I've been working with a mini list and I do the things that I write and I always make it, so it's highly recommendable to make a to-do list

      Pretty big word there, accomplish.

      Actually, I believe that we all accomplish exactly what we deserve, with few exceptions. That wannabe actor that says "I want to be an actor, poor me", is exactly what he wants to be, deep down. He wants to be a person wanting to be an actor. Else he would be an actor.

      In today's society we are all trained to be something, instead of being ourselves. We have to accomplish a lot and be successful in our lives!
      I have to ask, What the hell is that all about? :confused:

      I don't want to be something! I want to be me and nothing else. If I happen to enjoy selling games, then all the better. If I like to eat, then I work. When I don't enjoy selling games anymore, then I'll sell the store and do something else. It is as simple as that.
      No ifs, ands, or buts. If it takes lists to do "what you want", then it takes lists.

      Just do "whatever it takes", and the rest is easy.

      Anyone want to buy a gaming store? (jokes)

    Great tips!

    I set myself a goal of working for one hour daily, broken down into:
    study for 30 mins - concentrate on one information product (out of a whole folder full!) until it knew it backwards and was using the information;
    write for 20 mins - draft blog posts, content for Squidoo or articles etc.;
    interact for 10 mins - email, social media and forums.

    I did it in that order, no opening of Twitter, or checking email. Straight into study and then writing. You might think an hour isn't long, and it isn't, but it paid off. In one week doing this every day I was ahead on blog posts, and actually using the information I studied to write better posts.

    And then I fell off the wagon!

    I need to get back to my one hour plan, it gave me a great platform to getting even more done through the day.

    While you have laid out the high-tech version of a to-do list, do not underestimate the simple power of a physical and tangible notebook where you just write your to-do list down as required. It doesn't sound like much, but I think the very act of writing things down registers in our minds as something quite different from typing or manipulating a touchscreen on a phone. I remember reading somewhere that they did a study of college students graduating from Stanford, and they discovered that the ones who became truly successful had the habit of writing their tasks and goals down on paper. It may not seem like much, but if you get into the habit of writing your tasks and goals down and referring to them often, you'll see your productivity increase dramatically.

      The notebook method does not make me any more productive - I have filled notebooks all over the place, and wear down pencils really fast too!
      What happens is that I have all of these different notes everywhere & it stresses me out because I feel like I will NEVER get through all of that information! And if I want to find something I wrote I have to look through several pages or books before I find it.
      I tried having different notebooks for different subjects, but it was NOT practical at all.
      So what I am doing is going back through my notebooks one by one, and entering the notes into different categories I have set up as virtual notebooks in Evernote. I am only transferring stuff that I will use again.
      Now when I want to find something, I go to the appropriate subject & wha-la! there it is

      Example: When I come across websites I want to check out, I would write the site down in my notebook, but it was buried in the middle of a bunch of other stuff. In Evernote, I have a note book called "stuff I want to check out", then I have a subcategory of "websites", another for "books", etc.
      I am finding this MUCH more useful than the notebook method.

      I think if you have a way that works for YOU, then stick with it! It's all good

      But I am REALLY liking Evernote!

    Right now I am reading a book by Tony Robbins, "Awaken the Giant Within" and he says that in order for us to stay focused we have to consciously ask ourselves empowering question that direct our focus back on our goal. It is all about the questions we ask ourselves. For example, if you have a goal and unconsciously ask yourself "What if it doesn't work?" "What if my cousin was right and this idea won't work?" "What if the economy, What if, What if, excuses", this will create a doubt in your mind and get you off track. However, if you ask yourself question like "How can i learn from this situation?" "How can I improve?" "What is it I love about my job?" "How can I create a residual income from my business?" In other words, Instead of focusing on the problems, we have to focus mainly on the solutions. I attended Millionaire Mind Intensive seminar 2 weeks ago by T. Harv Eker and I have to tell you guys, it is life transforming. I got about 12 free tickets and I included it as a bonus in my e-book. Good Luck

    Some great suggestions here! I need to write things down. I have my 'To Do' list for the day or week, and tick off each one when done.

    Need to be more consistant at it though. Some days when I get home from work, I need to do other things, so the plan goes astray! Need to make up for it in the next day or two! Don't need to be too restrictive on yourself either, if you feel like going for a picnic and leaving it all behind, I think you should do it! Let your child free.

    Then get back to some work when you are more in the mood.

    Great tips folks. Here are some more. Might be regurgitating one or two but here goes. In addition to portable task lists and reminders via mobile phones, blackberries and smartphones etc...
    Get an office or quiet area, comfortable with inspiring reminders of how great you are and your goals and some kickinthebutt stuff like JustWriteIt or DoItNow etc
    Cut out distractions, that includes family if possible.
    Get a timer or k9 software on your pc to limit your browsing by password or find a similar free program to allow browsing at a certain time only.
    Have a mini plan/task list/time allocation as per some folks suggestions above.
    Take breaks (small ones) and reward yourself (hold back on the beer though).
    As per earlier suggestion, work at your most prodcutive time be it morning or afternoon or evening.
    And lastly, practice what you preach - something I need to do ;-)

    Hi Rui, I think there are many of us out there that do the same and many more that wouldn't admit it. Anything that you can use to keep you focused will make a remarkable difference to the end result. "If it's not written down, it didn't happen" I always think of this quote that I saw years ago on one of my customers office walls. I use Google calender.. it's simple plus it notifys you and sends you an e-mail too to remind you to start something.

    I'm a big fan of mastermind groups, group coaching, 1-to-1 coaching, supportive message boards, etc. Something about accountability makes it a lot easier for myself and the people with whom I work to move into action.

    To-do lists also must be kept manageable; if you write more than 3 to 5 business-related tasks a day on your "must do" list you may very well be setting yourself up for failure. If your to-do list is very long, consider loosening up your standards or hiring some outside (outsourced) help.
