What does "life-changing money" mean to you?

I posted a while ago that I was making good money online, but I hadn't gotten to the "life-changing money" yet.

Now, I know that my idea of "life-changing money" isn't the same as everyone else's. I get that.

But I am reaching the area between "good" money and "life-changing money" - and I am really, really liking it.

Here is what I mean by "life-changing money":
  • We can choose to live where we want, not just where Hubby can get a job.
  • We can pack up the kids and go travel to Aiken (where my stepdaughter is) and not have to wait until Hubby's payday.
  • We can stay in the fancy hotel, not the no-tell motel.
  • We can go out to eat or take the kids out - and not have to wait until Hubby's payday.
  • I wake up and find out I made money while I was snoozing.
Now, I know this is small potatoes compared to some people on here. But for me, this is really awesome. Really, really awesome.

How about you guys? What does "life-changing money" mean to you?

My ideas pretty much mirror yours, with a few exceptions.

Being able to buy that new $600 Digital camera I want.

Handing my wife a few hundred bucks to go shopping for new clothes with (women never have enough clothes,)

A new TV to put here in my "man cave/office",

Build mama an addition on the back of our little country cottage.

    That's good for starters.

"Life changing money" to me means NOT using my credit card for day to day living expenses!

The day I can do that my life WILL have changed. Because then I can stop treading water and start swimming and then I'll transition to sunning myself on the beach with my little one! That day is a comin'!

There are a ton of things I want to do and places I want to go, but my "life changing" for now, is what I said.

After thinking about it overnight, here is what "life-changing money" means to me:

"Life-changing money changes the way I think, act or feel in my day-to-day life."

So if I normally use a credit card to pay for my groceries, and now I don't have to, that is life-changing money.

If I normally lie awake at night and worry my electricity will be shut off because I can't pay it, and now I sleep well and know my bills are paid, that is life-changing money.

If I normally have to walk through the grocery store and count my pennies so I don't overspend, and now I can buy what I want without looking at the price, that is life-changing money.

If I used to shop for clothes by looking at the price tag first, and now I don't even bother looking at the tag, that is life-changing money.

So when you put it into that context, doesn't life-changing money seem more attainable?

You don't need 5 figures a month to change your life. You really don't.

An extra thousand a month can really change your life. If you are paying the bills and doing okay now, think about how an extra thousand dollas a month can change your life!

            $1000 a month is only $33.33 a day.

Not so hard to think about now, is it?

To be able to just replace my current income from my dreaded J.O.B. so I can quit forever and for good! Once I am free of J.O.B., then I can concentrate and focus on IM which is what I really want to do more than anything in this world. I can't make any headway since I work so much and have other responsibilities. I am at the point of desperation right now and need to get some passive $$ online quickly but how to go about doing it with a very limited free time? I just need to get steady stream of income started (even if just $1) and grow from there. I am non-techie and broke right now so what is best way to accomplish that? Any advice welcome and appreciated!

      Cindy,

Do you have a site or blog or squidoo lens? I noticed you have over 400 posts, so you have been here awhile. I can understand about the J.O.B. thing, and feel your pain. I have my own mind set about jobs, and that is: you will NEVER have financial freedom, or any other kind of freedom for that matter.

Anyway, off my soapbox, I would recommend the bum marketing method, which is free, if you haven't heard of it, google that phrase, and it will pop up.

To me it means having the freedom to do what I want when I want.

Being able to escape the land of the living dead (aka being an employee) and truly experiencing all that life has to offer.

      Lol! "The Living Dead"!

Made me smile, cos it reminded me of a great book I once read called "The Living Dead" by a chap called David Bolchover. If you currently 'exist' in an office environment - get this book! - more than a few home truths within it!

All I need is 40 dollars a day to go from living at home with my parents to an "active-retirement".

Mind you, I'm living in Thailand right now so the cost of living is about 4 times less than what it is back in Canada ..

    $40 here = $160 a day back at home ..

Obviously I'd like to average more than $40 a day though ..

Averaging $100 a day here and I'll be living like a KING!

By the way, my rent is about $150 a month!

Okay, now here is the life-changing money question:

What have you put into place so that you can make "life-changing money?"

If all you are doing is sitting around reading stuff about how to make money, your life won't change.

You have to put something into place.

        Here's what I'm doing Shay,

Well I currently have 4 sites and I've been given some great advice from a terrific Warrior (Jeremy Kelsall) who has basically told me to pull my socks up and focus! The last week I've worked solidly promoting one of my 4 sites, instead of doing what I usually do: flitting between the four thinking I'm working hard.

I was making perhaps one sale every 2-3 months, this past week I've made 5 sales and counting from this ONE site. This coming week I'm going to be doubling my efforts on this one site and I'm not leaving it until it's making AT LEAST one sale per day!

P.S. I love threads like this, they MAKE me re evaluate what I'm doing and why I'm doing it, for that you deserve a "thank you" Shay!

          Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwww.....you are welcome.

I think focus is a big issue for a lot of people. I know it is for me. I want to run in 10 different directions, but I have to buckle down and keep doing what is working for me.

I see a real problem (for me) between wanting multiple streams of income and focusing on what makes money.

I have found 3 things that bring in money for me, and I am working on getting a balance of my time spent on those 3 things.

The good part about it is that the 3 things work together.
          • One brings in immediate income.
          • One brings in short-term recurring income.
          • One will be bringing in long-term recurring income.
So I have to keep reminding myself that if I let my time spent with these 3 methods get out of whack, something is going to suffer - either my immediate income, my short-term income, or my long-term income.

It would be easy to focus only on what brings in immediate money. It is quick, and it is substantial. But if I do that, I will be sacrificing my future on the altar of the present, and I cannot do that. Not if I want to have the really big life-changing money that comes in whether I am awake or not.

Threads like this one help me stay focused.

          Glad I could help!

Life changing money for me would be to just not have to care about it, if that makes sense?

One thing that my online ventures has allowed me to do is to not be
tied down to an area just for a job. Because of that, I am seriously
contemplating moving back to New Hampshire and getting a nice house in the woods, instead of living in Delaware.

During certain times I've made "life-changing money" as I know others here have done.

Personally I've had periods where I had a consistent six figures getting blasted into my bank account every month. At one point I paid off a $25K credit card balance with a single personal check. Etc.

    My opinion:

The money itself is not life-changing. Learning what it really takes to keep doing that much volume - including some serious trials and tribulations - THAT is life-changing.

    Best regards,
    Ken

Life changing money, to me, would be $100 a day, although certainly $10 a day would be significant. With any amount, especially that $100 a day, I could "double up" on my land and student loan, and eventually, or mortgage payments. It could allow us to more quickly be debt free.

My wife and I love our jobs, and have no desire to leave, so, we wouldn't quit, but, there are some things we could/would do with some more luxury. On a practical standpoint, we'd probably build a bit nicer of a house, we'd do a few vacations we have wanted to do, and maybe do one or two short term missions trips with a missionary friend of ours before we decided to make the "baby" a reality. From my end, I'd feel even more secure about the financial aspect of "baby rearing," even though I know that I serve a God who is more than able, and more than willing, to provide every need. Indeed, He already has.

I'll tell you what was life-changing money for
      me...

When I did my first ever "launch" back in late
      1996 - I didn't have a clue what I was doing, but
I still did $1400 in sales.

      That changed EVERYTHING for me.

Because I figured if I could do it once, then I
could do it again. It was enough for me to quit
school (I walked out right in the middle of class
      the day after I launched.)

Since then I've gone on to do some crazy stuff and
have sold millions of dollars of stuff... but
nothing changed my life like that first $1400.

Again, it was the KNOWLEDGE that I could do it
that was life changing. And the cool thing is that
once you have that knowledge and experience, no
one can take it from you.

Some other big moments - my first launch that
REALLY hit it big... I think it was around $34k in
a week. I think that was as much as I had ever
made in a year... and I made it in a WEEK.

Then there was the year where I made more money
than my wife did in here professional job (1998), which
meant she could retire and stay home with the
      kids.

Then when I was buying a new house in 2000 and
needed $70k for a down payment... and I put
together a launch to raise that money. I did $106k
in a week, nearly all profit.

Of course, what I've done since then makes that $106k
launch look like chump change, but that first "six
figures in seven days" was really cool at the
time. And it allowed me to move to my dream home
      out in the mountains.

I tell you what, when you get into that
life-changing range, it can get pretty weird. Your
perceptions of stuff really start to change. I
could write a book about this stuff... when I
started out I went through a Tony Robbins course
and he had me write down my goals. Part of that
was writing down a really big income goal -
basically as big a number as you dared dream
      about.

Well, my current income is about 25 times bigger
than I dared dream about back then.

I've always tried to live below my means... and I
don't have super-expensive hobbies like sports
cars (no Ferrari here - I've got an F350... but I
do like bicycles, guitars, and cameras) - so that
means I can basically buy what I want without
looking at price tags. And I can't remember the
last time I looked at a price in restaurants (and I
can have fun by often picking up the tab when
      I'm out with friends).

Hope this doesn't sound like too much bragging...
I just feel blessed and lucky, and if I can
inspire someone here to really go for it - well
then my work here is done. :-)

figures in seven days" was really cool at the

        - Jeff
Thanks for sharing your experience here Jeff.

It hit a nerve with me because after reading this I feel like I am walking in your footsteps.

I did a little launch, Made decent money but it wasn't the money that got me excited. It was the knowledge and experience that I can do it and repeat the process which I did and made a little more money. The day after I quit my job as well and now I am doing better than I've ever thought I would. even though it isn't that much yet.

Your post inspired me to know that If I keep doing what I'm doing I will have complete financial security soon. I remember thinking that just $100 a day would be the ultimate for me. Now I make more than that and the next step is to just make it secure so I know it will come in every day or every month for years to come.

        Cheers for sharing.

For sure - I have an upholstery business - when I made my first $45 for doing a cigarette burn repair - sure, the $45 was great, but, I "KILLED SOMETHING AND BROUGHT IT HOME!"

You know, one of the things that changed the way I thought about money and why I wanted it was an interview with Andre Agassi (back in the big hair days).

The interviewer said something like, "Well Andre, you've made 2 and a half million dollars this year..."

      Andre: Wow, really?!?

Interviewer: You don't know how much money you make?

Andre: Well, I don't really handle money. I have people I trust who take care of everything. I don't think of myself as someone with a lot of money, to me it's just like everything's free. If I want a new camera, I grab it and sign something and I get to keep it!"

That's what changed my attitude. I've never been much interested in money (I've been blessed in a lot of ways, so never really was financially ambitious). Watching this interview convinced me that my personal picture of 'financial heaven' meant the freedom to do whatever I want without needing to stop and think about whether I should be putting the money toward something else. Fortunately, since I don't have a lot of truly high dollar wants and needs, it won't take that much money to hit that 'life changing' level.

Disclaimer: This post in no way represents an endorsement of the concept of blindly trusting other people to manage your money

Pay off my house. Hint: I have a huge house.
Enough to make my job feel like I am volunteering.
Second house on a lake or ocean.

But really, life-changing money is an amount that let's you pay off a good chunk of your bills, and make sure your kids are educated.

    Wow... Great Post.

I'm not going to lie about the fact that I want to be a millionaire, but when you break it down to how much you need to earn in a day/week/month it really isn't unrealistic to turn over $1m a year, in fact, most of you reading this probably have that already sewn up...

I'm failing and learning, I'm failing and learning and throughout all of this, I am growing as a person....

I know I will reach that place not if, but when...

In answer to your question, $1,000 a week passively would totally change everything for me..

Having just recently closed the business I had for 14 years, making enough money to pay my monthly expenses so I don't have to worry about it would definitely be life changing at this point.

I think that "life changing money" is relative to your current situation and is ever changing. As I make more money, I begin to dream about all the things that were not an option when I had no money.

What am I doing to change the situation ... become involved in internet marketing by enrolling in a coaching program with Michael Cheney to learn the ropes. I have 8 sites up and running and continue to learn and soak up as much info as I can.

I love the different perspectives on this thread.

To me, "life-changing money" (simply put) changes my life. It doesn't have to be 5 or 6 figures a month, but it simply changes the way I live.

It might change where you shop for clothes. (No more Wal-Mart!)

It might change where you buy groceries. (No more Wal-Mart!)

It might enable you to be more spontaneous (such as being able to go on a vacation more than once ayear).

It might relieve your stress (because all of your bills are paid).

It might just change your mindset (knowing you have money in the bank, all of the bills are paid, and it is only the 9th of the month).

Life changing means I get to cut the strings. I am approaching that range now. In 2009 I think I will have arrived. It was hard, but if I reach the goals I set, it will be well worth it.

Your post is very inspiring, and I am happy for you, and can't wait until I get there. I have a question, I have written 20 articles on an ebook that I am promoting (high gravity) and it has been 30 days and no sales, am I expecting a sale too soon? Then I read in one of the threads about clickbank, and how they may be having some problems,so I don't know. It is imperative that this works for me, and I am not afraid of hard work. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

There are lots of people on here that have experience with Clickbank. I don't make my money from there, so I am not much help in that arena. Sorry.

Why don't you package up 20 articles on a topic and sell that? Sell it from a blog. That might be a good start for you.

      Just a suggestion.

Now that is something I have not thought about! good idea, I am sure this is a dumb question, but, how would you market the blog? What kind of keywords would you use? And what would be a reasonable price? And this would be instant money wouldn't it? hmmm.. I need NOW money!

I am going to share a few priceless words of wisdom here.

Here is my advice to you. Take it for whatever you think it is worth. (I accept tips, BTW ) (J/K)

I have freebie blogs for all of my "stuff." Yes, I know it is better to have your own domain, hosting, etc., but that isn't something I have done yet.

If you are trying to make money and not spend money to start, here is my suggestion:
          • Set up a free blog. Don't worry too much about a domain name - it won't matter for your purposes here. (I like Blogger, personally, but Wordpress is okay, too, I guess.)
          • Create or purchase an info product that appeals to work-at-home moms. (More info about that in a minute.) It can be short (5-7 pages).
          • Create an account at e-junkie.com for a free trial. Load the product in there and keep the price low (under $10).
          • Advertise the info product on your blog, and have good content on there about WAHM niche stuff.
          • Create a free account at getresponse.com and put a form on the blog for WAHMs to get on your mailing list.
          • Market the blog in your signature on WAHM forums. (Don't spam the boards. Be a good message board member. )
          • Follow WAHMs on Twitter and send out updates about your blog in daily or biweekly Tweets.
Because you are marketing the blog, not just your product, you aren't spamming the MB. (Make sure the free content in your blog posts is good stuff, BTW.)

Possible topics for the info product:
          • Party Plan games
          • Tips on organizing your WAH biz
          • How to find a WAH opportunity (and avoid scams)
          • How to start a home biz from scratch (no MLM, Network Marketing, or Party Plans)
          • How to find more hostesses/customers/recruits
And there are more....those are just off the top off my head.

So, without spending any money, you have created a blog (to attract readers), started a mailing list (so that you have a ready-made market for future products), and can make immediate sales from your original info product.

Now, you can find good keywords for the blog posts so people can find you through search engines, but you also will get immediate traffic by marketing the blog via Twitter and forums.

Hope this helps. If you need more help, let me know.

PS - If you can't write something (or just don't feel like writing it), then just buy something (MRR stuff) or hire someone to do it. (Like me! :rolleyes A short report shouldn't be too expensive. (Even getting a report and 10-15 blog posts shouldn't be too expensive, and then you would be ready to go.)

I actually have a few ebooks that are MRR (this is master resell rights, correct?") duh! that might work for the idea you are suggesting, and it sounds like I could make this work. This is something that could work. Do you know if I can use the word "shitty" in an article title or blog title, or is this considered profanity? I would be using it as an adjective:p. All I know, is you gave me a great idea, and if I am allowed to use that word, people will click out of curiosity if nothing else.

I'm sure Shay will reply here as well, as it is her thread

But, have you tried to take a look at what other people that are successfully selling the product are doing?

Where is their traffic coming from?

What kind of articles are they writing?

Is their site a blog or some type of review site?

      Are they collecting email addresses?

Are they redirecting right to a sales page?

There are a ton of factors involved in making your marketing campaign successful. However, I've found that you can almost copy exactly what other people are doing and get your share of the pie

I have been looking at what other people are doing, but I am not sure how to tell if they are successful or not. I google everything, so if there is a better way to get this info, please advise.

When I do a google search, tons of stuff comes up, and what I find is that most of the 1st page of google is blogs and articles and squidoo lenses. Then when you check out what they are doing, their stuff is terrible, and I am amazed at how they got there to start with. I have read tons of articles that other people have written, and maybe I just haven't found the good ones, but for the most part the articles, are a bunch of words that don't say anything, and does not keep my attention past the first paragraph. I personally think mine are so much better, and I put effort into mine.

Also, keep in mind that for my keywords, most of my articles are on the first page of google. One article in particular, is getting tons of views, so that leads me to believe that people are interested in that particular keyword.

Anyway, I am directing them to a squidoo lens, and blog, with the links for them to click on. On the blog, they can subscribe, but I have not set up an autoresponder as of yet, and the reason is, I have no income right now, and my plan was to reinvest money into my online business once it started flowing in, and that has not happened yet, so here I am.

I guess my main question is: where do you go to find the successful people promoting this product? They are not on the first page of google, not organic and the sponsored ad, I found one site that I thought was good out of all of them, so of those ads went to the sales page, and other went to a crappy blog.

Any words of wisdom are greatly appreciated.

Life changing money? Is there such a norm? Well, I feel, if you are able to pay your bills, without any borrowings mounting up and able to make both ends meet (in the present scenario), that is life changing money. Lemme think of the present now than dreaming of what is to come. If I am able to tide over the present tough living condition, then I would consider myself the luckiest and that would be my life changing money, having helped me go through a worst economic crisis and still manage to come out of it!!

It would take much more than what I normally make to change my present lifestyle. Conversely, it would also take much less than what I normally make to change it as well. Right now, I am dealing with the latter scenerio as I just had my worse month in many years. Fortunately, I do have enough savings and investments to last for a long time without having to change my lifestyle.

In this enviromment, it is very risky to live month to month on your paycheck, or for that matter on your sales or commisions if you are in IM fulltime.

You are very fortunate. I was like that before and lost everything. Not fun at all, and I want the lifestyle that I grew so accustomed to back, and I plan on getting it. I've done it once and I can do it again.

"LIFE CHANGING" money means to me not only meeting my current bills with ease, but repaying the family members that have sacrificed greatly through the years to help out when things were tough. Specifically, a mother who has sacrificed and struggled to help her child and her grandchildren even to her own detriment. The primary goal, after making sure the family is taken care of for the moment would be to repay those old debts and feel good about any future income truly being "MINE". I can't stand people who "make it" and then don't pay back what they've borrowed through the years to their family and then act like they don't owe it to them -- like it was just a gift that the parent could afford to give even if it means that parent having to work years into her retirement to pay off the debts she's incurred for her child and grandchildren!

Life changing money would be paying the mortgage, car payment and other bills from my online endeavors. Get out of debt and actually start saving.

It doesn't sound like much, but it would let me sleep a lot easier at night.

I totally understand how you feel. I once had it all and lost it all in real estate, I should write a book "what the guru's fail to tell you", in a nutshell, I am back at square one, however, knowing I have done it once, gives me the confidence that I can do it again.

For me life changing money is about not have to worry about the bills. But above all that is it about the freedom to spend time with my family whenever I want. Thats why I got into this from the beginning.

I am going to answer the original question that Shay asked.

For me, life changing money is being able to work with Tres Dias, which is a particular ministry that my wife and I work with. It's a 3 day Christian retreat-style ministry that is hugely powerful - it has become my hobby. There are several Tres Dias communities around the US - and I would like to serve in several.

Also, there is Kairos - which is Tres Dias for prisoners - I would love to work in that.

This thread is resurrected after quite some time! Life changing money for me is being able to do whatever I want, whenever I want. I've never been much for saving and planning so the freedom to just pick and go on a random vacation at the drop of a hat always excites me. It also removes the 'worry' factor of how your bills are going to be paid or how you can afford certain items that you would like to have. More than anything, it provides the opportunity to see and take care of those closest to you which is really what it's all about.

This is such a great conversation to have.

For me, I'm simple, but I like nice, quality things. I don't NEED a lot but I like knowing that IF I needed something money would never be an issue. To me, that's life changing.

    Life changing money...

I went to college with my mother giving me Php300 or $7 dollars a day..
That amount would make a decent living for a day..and it was good...
So now I started making money online.
My real goal is to just be free from responsibilities, time management, and hassles
I coumputed it all and it amounts to $700
$700 dollars a month is good for me..

I could buy what I want when I want. If that doubled then it is really good. Triple better. People don't want to be really rich, it is what that money can buy is what they are after

The freedom to make more choices. I'll admit that I'm a huge fan of Big Mac's. Sometimes I've just got to have one. I also love a double cut filet mignon cooked medium rare at Mortons.

What jazzes me the most though is to be able to choose which ever one I'm in the mood for instead of my pocket book telling me what I can afford.

I want to have lifestyle=time plus money to me that is lifechanging, especially now when I am farrer away then the moon from the lifestyle I desire but I am getting there

Life changing money to me is to be able to have enough where I don't have to think about it. Where I can wake up in the morning, go to sleep at night and not have to figure out how the next dollar will be made. It's not at all about the material possessions to me. I would honestly still live simply and give back as much as I could to those who needed it. Money used properly can bring about great success and reward. However, just as few people manage to become "rich", just as few of them manage to not become corrupted by it.

Life-changing money for me, I think that it would have to provide security for me for at least 10 years.

I'm only 16 but I know for me, I need to be a millionaire by 18. I need to be a billionaire in my life. I am so self-driven that I cannot say x amount of money is life-changing. I believe my success will be what changes my life.

    Any thoughts?

I'm not sure what lifechanging money means to me because
personally, it's however much I would need to bungee jump,
skydive, whitewater rafting, climbing mountains, learn how
to ski, travel the world and eat at fancy restaurants (I love
    great food).

I also have a knack for cars, nice clothes, and dating women.

However much money it takes for me to have more of those
experiences is how much money I want, and for me my tastes
are a little more expensive than others --
