The First Thought Of The Day

Have you wonder what is the first thought of the day the moment you wake up in the morning. It pretty much set the tone of the day.
For the positive thinkers, it is always the goal that they have sink in their subconscious mind. For me, it is the who I can help today.

So, what is your thought for the day?

    Hi

The first thought of my day is ALWAYS linked to whatever my LAST thought that I gave to my subsconscious mind to work with the night BEFORE!

I learned this when, after my seperation, I used to wake up every day with thoughts that I wouldn't have chosen (which, like you said - set the tone for the day) - so instead I decided to plant a better 'seed' the night before!

Even if you're not specific - just using the old favorite "Every day, I'm getting better and better" is a great step in the right direction.

    To Our Success!

Hi! Great thread! My 1st thought of the day use to be, I can't wait to have a cigarette (hahahaha). Now that I am no longer a smoker (Yeah!), my 1st thought is how grateful I am to have another day, as well as how can I make this an even better one then the day before! In my day, I always try to go out of my way and say something kind or smile at someone that may need it or someone on Twitter maybe having a rough day and I may add a kind tweet. I am now living each day with joy and happiness as well as gratitude!!!

Haha...my first thought of the day is "what time is it, can I go back to bed?"

Of course I can b/c I work from home!

Although that's partially a joke, that really is what I usually think when I first get up. So it's kind of half gratitude (being able to work from home) and half wanting to fall back to sleep.

I usually get up anyway though b/c I like to work early in the morning.

I agree though, the first thought is VERY powerful.

What's more powerful for me is the first THING I do in the morning. I've recently started to do 1 piece of work done before I do anything else - including coffee & breakfast.

It helps you keep that motivation for the rest of the day.

What we are today comes from our thoughts of yesterday, and our present thoughts build our life of tomorrow: our life is the creation of our mind. - Buddha Dp1

A teaching from the Dhammapada espoused by the Buddha over 2500 years ago. Still very relevant is it not?

  • My first thought, get up use the restroom and head back to bed for another hour.........why another hour, I can afford to because I work for myself.
But I do work about 12 hours a day online. So I am far from being Lazy,I just adjust my time here and there.

My first thought of the Day is how thankful I am for my family and where I am today. I am thankful for building my business and being able to spend more time with my family then when I worked in the corp. world. So my first thought must be, "Thankfulness".

First thoughts are always the ones that grab your attention and eventually ends up high on your list of priorities to fulfill for the day. Always step back and review the priority list and see how many are 'first thoughts'. Work on those important priority items during your golden hours.

  • My first thought is to remember that the most powerful position to be in mentally at the start of any day is absolute clarity, so that I do not begin today awash in a river of subsurface anxieties, concerns, worries, or other sorts of mental distractions. I have trained so that the moment I open my eyes I begin to focus my mind (not my thoughts, but my awareness of myself) immediately, to QUIET my thoughts.

Each morning - each waking hour - is then quiet and relaxed, so that any natural pleasantness to be enjoyed from, say, the rising sun over the trees beaming through the window, or the savory aroma of good coffee brewing - any of these small pleasures - sing to me, lifting me out of bed with a light and anticipatory step.

How did you train yourself to do that? When I wake up in the morning all I can think about is going to the bathroom, lol.

I have a specific memory which I marked in my journal of waking up one morning a couple years back and suddenly realizing that I'd moved through the whole 'morning routine' in a daze of mechanical repetition. And while staring in the mirror, brushing my teeth, it hit me that I was carrying a vast unseen load on my shoulders, and that the burden was comprised entirely of the undetected thoughts going on in my mind at that very moment about what had to be done that day, the responsibilities that had to be fulfilled, the past, the future, anxieties over the current events - there was a dizzying dramatic theatric performance having its way in my brain and when I saw it, I was stunned.

Had I not already been engaged in a disciplined practice of mental training in Concentration, Focus, and Willpower for months preceding that moment, I may never have perceived 'The Show', and not understood what was making getting up in the morning such an anxious affair.

Once you see it, and get over the shock of realizing that there's a thought-spewing machine in your head over which you have little to no control, then things change.

The most advanced forms and levels of mental training at some point show the trainee that, for the most part, 'THINKING' is an unnecessary habit that drains one's energy and keeps one either blind to present reality or utterly distracted from greater possibility.

What one learns over the course of advancement is to keep the Mind quiet, and Architect one's thoughts on purpose, so that thoughts become a servant, and not a ruling taskmaster continually barking orders and claiming it has answers that it simply does not.

I read an inspirational saying that I have on my push board in the bedroom. Hope this helps everyone out:

"Today is a chance to do better than yesterday!"

If I made 100 dollars yesterday, I want to do better than that. If I wrote 4 articles yesterday, I want to write 6 today.

I am SO NOT a morning person. My first thought always is "I hope I can get a cup of tea before someone talks to me".

Anyone can recommend motivational thoughts to be used as first thoughts and boost the adrenalin for the challenges of the day?
I used to read my affirmation but it may not be as inspiring.

Most of the time, I'm just grateful to see a new day. So I guess thank you is my first thought (or maybe it's "I gotta pee")
