Here's My Powerful Method to Get Things Done and Reach Any Goal...

We all have used to-do lists at some point of time to get things done. When it comes to Internet marketing, tasks can get overwhelming and to-do lists can really help. But there's one problem that you can face and that is tracking your progress.

One of the main reasons why people quit IM is because they don't know how close they are to achieving their goal and getting their first break. In other words, it is something you typically can't measure.

But what if I told you there IS an easy way to measure your progress? Here it is:

"Focus on something you CAN measure and relate it to your goal."

Ever wonder why video games are so addictive? They are for two reasons:
  1. They give you one big goal to achieve, divided by levels. As you complete each level you feel instant success and feel closer to that final goal.
  2. They let you measure your progress through scoring.
Now, the only thing you need to do is, apply this "game theory" to your own to-do list - here's how:
  • Determine what exactly your main goal is.
  • Divide this main goal in tasks and sub-tasks.
  • Make a list of all these tasks in an order.
  • Give a score to each task that you complete, according to the level of difficulty.
  • Add up the scores from all these tasks to make one big score.
  • Score yourself whenever you complete a task until you get done with all the tasks, which will automatically lead to the completion of your main score.
That's it. We just turned a simple to-do list into a full-blown progress tracking system that takes your focus away from the hurdles you face to reaching that big score.

You can customize this method according to your preferences...

For example, if your goal is to work for 3 hours every day on your IM business for 3 months, give yourself a score of 100 for every hour you work, which calculates to 300 points a day and a total score of 27,000 points that needs to be reached in 90 days or 3 months.

It's just about thinking out of the box. Let us know of any ideas that you can add to this method and improve it

for those who have trouble with productivity, i highly recommend getting a piece of software called "The Action Machine", which is quite valuable and well worth the investment. also, there's another program which i use in conjunction with "The Action Machine" called "MyLife Organized" which is also helpful, though not quite as valuable

Having a big goal that is broken down into easily quantified and progressive sub-goals and tasks is crucial to staying motivated. Most of us have big goals that typically long-term, and without something to show us that we're making progress on a smaller scale (the sub-goals and tasks) we tend to flounder and in many cases ditch those big goals.

Without sub-goals and tasks, we could wander around in the wilderness for a long time without anything to shoot for and no way of measuring our progress. This is why it's so important to break down our big goals into small, discrete and measurable sub-tasks.

Mustafa, your "game theory" method is a good one! While reading your opening post, I thought about online games I like to play and there is definitely great motivation to get to the next level or beat my last score or the top scorer.

This method adds a new, fun twist to the "SMART" method where you make your goals SPECIFIC; MEASURABLE; ACTIONABLE; REALISTIC; and TIMELY.

    • If I read your post accurately it is primarily actions based. While that is a problem for many people to solve I would suggest something that is more results based.

I will add xxx number of new members to my list or
Increase my opt-in rate by xx %
Reduce the cost of active leads by xx %

I understand that this type of goal is much more difficult and requires a minimum amount of activity. It may also take much more than the minimum planned activity.

What people don't want to do is spend 30 minutes reading promotional emails and calling it part of the daily work plan unless you are actively working a swipe file.

There are a lot of activities that we do each day that will keep us very busy and not contributing to the end goals of our individual businesses.

    Hi Mustafa,

Thanks alot for sharing this theory.
I find it really true when you link it with online games. And I do apply it not only in IM, but to my daily life as well.

Good method by Mustafa. Thanks. Breaking down a major goal into smaller goals is the best way to accomplish things. Action is the key, though... taking action, no matter how small, will certainly lead you to your goals.

Remember, an ounce of action is worth a tonne of theory.

Interesting post Mustafa, I am currently working on a project that involves using game dynamics in the real world to influence behaviour. There is an interesting TED video on this concept from a few months ago:

This is key to succeeding with a big project or venture of any kind. You have to break things up into achievable sub-goals and steps where you can easily track and measure progress along the way. This is how we can keep motivated, because we can see that we're accomplishing these crucial sub-goals and steps that are necessary for achieving our ultimate goal!

    Hi There
My method for reaching any goal would have to be this. My big goal is to make money online. I first look at what i want then think what that would look like. I then think and get a sensory experience of what the goal looks like. Then i look at what is stopping me form achieving this. By letting go and having my intention in mind, i feel more comfortable with achieving the goal. A good idea is to list Advantages and Disadvantages of achieving the goal. In this business strong belief, trial and error and just plunging in seems to work well for me. Hope this helps.

    Thank you
