Such an absolutely beautiful story...

My friend Tajwar recently got me into Wayne Dyer. I heard him mention a story on an audio cd yesterday and wanted to share it with you.

This story was SO beautiful to me... even just thinking about it makes me cry, and I cried buckets yesterday after listening to it.

Hopefully it'll stir something in you too:

Yes, it's a beautiful story about seeing life - and people - in a broader perspective. Its very easy to have a narrow vision of the world - and others - and to see only failings, flaws, disasters and distress.

Our world comes alive and we quickly see new possibilities when we are able to broaden our perspective and take in also the talents, skills, strengths, potential, beauty and wonder of the world and those around us.

For every half empty glass, there is also one that is half full. And when we can habitually see the half full ones - when at first glance they appeared half empty - then we can make a positive difference.

    Thank you for this post.

Lovly story, thanks for sharing it. These are the kind of things we need to be reminded of. We are not different but circumstance make us seem that way.

    God bless

I cry every time I read/hear that story.

I would like to share another example of this with you. A "new" teacher was voicing his frustration about a student because this student recently had a change in behavior. This teacher, instead of looking "deeper" into what was going on began to take an authoritative approach toward this student and had become involved in a "power struggle" with him.

Two other teachers and myself, who also knew this student, noticed the attitude/behavior change as well and knew this was not characteristic of him at all. He "normally" succeeded in school and wrote some of the most beautiful stories. The three of us decided to take a moment to sit down with the student to find out what was causing it and see if we could intervene before he got himself into too much trouble. Within a few minutes, these are the things the student told us: The next day was the anniversary (1st year) of his mom's death. He had no father in his life, and the relatives who had "assumed" care of him after his mother's death put him in a group home instead. And, in about a week, it was going to be his 13th birthday, but he wouldn't be having a birthday party because he had been moved out of the group home and was now living in a shelter.

The "rest of the story", of course, doesn't end there (we made sure some positive things were put into place for this student ), but I'm ending it there to leave you with this thought...

Too many times we look "externally" at people we see in public and automatically make judgements/assumptions about them. We don't take a moment for a "second thought" about what may be going on "internally" or within their private lives that is the truth about what this person is reflecting/reacting to at that moment...& if we did, it could completely change our perspective of that person.

      Namaste,

Great story, and yes, we can learn to never prejudge people until we know all the facts.

I also think it teaches us to never give up. If people in bad circumstances can achieve so much with effort, those of us who live a "normal" life, can achieve that and more.
