I once said that if there is any secret it is hard work. Turns out that Malcolm Gladwell's research bears this out. He studied Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Bill Joy, the Beatles, and came to the conclusion that you need 10,000 hours to master a science.

    That was an interesting article.

I think it takes time and TIMING. Bill Gates was one of the only kids at the time to spend so much time programming, but it was at a time when nobody else was programming. Computers from that point on became a very popular machine soon after so he knew a lot about a subject that was going to become very important to everyone. If he had spent his time doing something that failed he would not have gained any success. The article also said he was rich, which I find a bit unfair to the majority of people trying to become successful.

Still, the idea behind the article is still interesting

I agree on the fact that you need special dedication to one subject in order to master it, you need to invest time...I didn´t know about the 10000 hrs but it doesn´t sound exagerated.....

For the most part, you need serious time in anything to 'master' it. Although you can still have 10,000+ hrs into something and tons of hard work and still not be 'successful'.

It all depends on your personal definition of success...

Yes, secret of success is always hard work and will power to win. Of course, time has to be favorable to you too. The lives and experiences of these great people are always going to be fine examples for others who are eager to prove their mettle. It wont be an easy road to tread on, but the ultimate result will be enormous. Dedication will eventually pay dividends.

My only "secret" is never keep trying. Once you understand that an online business requires work like any other business, you know you have to put in the hours. The good thing about it is that if you have an appropriate system to follow, it will all work out with time; and as many of us know, sometimes we just have to do something once (like submitting an article, for example) and we are still getting links and prospects years after that.

It's an interesting article indeed. If you look at most experts you'll see that they've dedicated a lot of time in honing their craft, so i suppose 10,000 is just about right.

At the end of the day you can't become truly good at anything without practice. MJ used to shine on the basketball court and he made ut look so easy. But few people saw the hours upon hours of practice to get his game to that level.

Its about hard work pure and simple.

I have read some of it last time at my local bookstores. All the information in this book, Outliers is extremely remarkable and very insightful. I always keep thinking everytime I found something new and sometime I even feel painful thinking that I still didn't have some of the quality needed to be successful.

I totally agreed with the 10,000 hrs concept. Just compare to mastering the golf swing, you need practices and more than 200,000 swings to get it consistently right.
But to get to that step, first you must BUILD THE HABIT. It isn't that difficult as studies showed that you can get it in 21 days.

If we just work on this for 8 hrs everyday and it requires 10,000 hrs it would take 10,000/8 = 1250 days = 1250/365 = 3.42 Years = about 3 Years 5 months plus.

If you want to achieve faster than 3 Years and 5 months plus, then we got to put in even more hrs per day !

I think the secret of success lies in our mindset more than anywhere else. If our mindset is not right, then no matter how many hours do we put in anything, we won't be able to achieve anything.

My 10th grade teacher used to say that "whatever we do and whenever we do it, we must give 110%. Otherwise we are just wasting our time." If you cannot give your best to something, then it means that your whole heart is not in that job. And if you are not in something with your whole heart then you will never be able to get the desired results from it.

So, buck up and get on the job. There should be no excuses for lethargy.

    Hi,
    I agree!
It really is hard work and constant work to get to success.
But before taking action the most important thing is that one creates the dreams, goals and things one is out for.
Once those are set, one can start to get to action, which is the second most important ingredient for being successful in the end.
Mark a goal, get to action, stay active until you reach your goal, then make a new one.
guess thats what one could name a perfect life-marketing plan! ;-)

    God bless,

    Joschu

    10 Secrets to Success.....

    1. How You Think is Everything.
Always be positive. Think Success, not Failure. Beware of a negative environment.

    2. Decide upon Your True Dreams and Goals: Write down your specific goals and develop a plan to reach them.

    3. Take Action. Goals are nothing without action.

    4. Never Stop Learning: Go back to school or read books. Get training & acquire skills.

    5. Be Persistent and Work Hard: Success is a marathon, not a sprint. Never give up.

    6. Learn to Analyze Details: Get all the facts, all the input. Learn from your mistakes.

    7. Focus Your Time And Money: Don't let other people or things distract you.

    8. Don't Be Afraid To Innovate: Be different. Following the herd is a sure way to mediocrity.

    9. Deal And Communicate With People Effectively: No person is an island. Learn to understand and motivate others.

    10. Be Honest And Dependable: Take responsibility, otherwise numbers 1 - 9 won't matter.

Working hard is definitely one of the keys to success. But working hard alone does not make one rich. You see lots of people working very hard but they are still poor or mediocre. So I don't agree that working hard per se makes one successful or rich

In 1953 Havard University conducted a detailed survey of its graduating senior class.3000 were asked to answer a detailed questionnaire about their expectations of their life

In 1973 another questionaire was completed by each of the 2000 remaining x-students that were contactable. The researchers were shocked by the results: 3% of the people had a networth greater than the other 97% combined. What was more shocking was that this 3% were not the cream of the graduating class. It was not the geniuses who succeeded financially

What was the secret of the 3% who succeeded way above all the others?

        THEY HAD WRITTEN GOALS

So, my conclusion is that success comes from both the right mindset, focus and hardwork

I dont necessarily think its hard work

        Its consistent work.

That is the secret to anything that you 'build' on.

It doesnt matter if you have a great business idea, if you dont put it into action every single day without fail, it wont happen.

It doesnt matter if you have a great plan to lose weight. If you dont follow the diet every single day, you wont lose weight.

It doesnt matter if you have a great plan to save money, if you dont put money away every single paycheck, or adhere to a budget every day, you wont save money.

Consistency is the secret key to every type of success.
