Broke and on Benefits to Traveling the World - ASK ME ANYTHING!

It took me a long time to get my business off the ground. The short story is that I went from being broke and on unemployment benefits to running my own online business.

However, I have been able to...
  • Leave my home country and move to an island
  • Have long term trips in North America (including an awesome 3000 mile road trip), tour thousands of miles of Peru (including the Amazon jungle) and visit other places for long holidays (usually months not weeks).
  • The ability to work from anywhere with an internet connection.
  • The option of not having to work very much if I don't want to (the 4-hour-work-week is a very real option for me). My existing businesses are very self sufficient due to the great people I work with. However, I'm committed to growing my business so I do work.
Anyway, I think getting the right mindset was a big key to getting traction with my business. Even now I still have a lot to work on to take my business to the next level.

So, ask me anything...

    Hi Chris

Where did you get the success mindset from? and how long did it take for you to become successful from making that decision?

What or who was it that inspired you and why?

I wouldn't say I have a pure successful mindset, but certainly I changed habits that have made a significant impact on growing my business.

It didn't really come at any one time or from any one place, but more from continually trying to learn from others and gradually taking action on it.

I wouldn't say it was some big breakthrough, but lots of mini breakthrough over time.

What or who was it that inspired you and why?
Again not really one person. I'm inspired by countless people. I tend to think most people have some quality or skill you can learn from.

One big influence in my business is a mentor who also runs a blog network (about 20-30x as big as mine) and has huge success with it, so seeing them do it and grow it from nothing, showed me it was possible.

Is your life different now than you imagined it would be back when you were struggling to make a living online?

What are you working towards now that you have a stable income?

What do you fill the void of time that was left from not having to work every day? ie: Hobbies, passions, etc.

What do you do for a sense of fulfillment?

I know I wanted to travel and work from 'home' and I'm doing that. But I was really too busy at the time to think much about it.

What are you working towards now that you have a stable income?
Growing my business, outsourcing more areas of it, implementing new ideas, and generally trying to figure out what would be the most fun job to have, and give myself that job.

I love learning new things, so spend a lot of time just educating myself about many different topics.

I have a couple of hobbies I am pretty into and spend a lot of time on.

Then just spending time with friends and family and having fun. There's always so much today, I'm never bored.

Take action, put up a site, start driving traffic and work from there.

This forum is full of ideas and business models. Pick one that appeals to you and do it, and stick it out until it works.

If it doesn't work, pivot (so you build momentum and don't start from zero), but don't start on something completely new unless you are absolutely certain the area you are working in has absolutely no future for you.
