Goal Planning Model: The power of a different kind of list
What you need:
A note pad
A pen
A quiet moment
A clear head
What to do:
Just write down all the goals you want to achieve in your day, month or year. One goal for one page of your notebook.
Think hard about it even if you feel right now it can't be achieved. Write it down anyway.
Commit your goal to paper.
My first goal I wrote down was 'revamp' my site and below it I listed the following
Design
Pages to include
Installation of widgets
Installation of back-end plugins
Promote site via social media, various sites, directories, message boards. (bookmark these in one folder on your browser bookmarks to ensure you never forget a place you need to go)
Get feedback on website from high traffic performing individual.
Introduce end goal within site to site visitors.
Now a few of the above I've ticked already and others are on going things I can keep coming back to like social media and book marking / article sites.
At the end of the page I wrote in capitals. (not shouting but definitely wanted these to stand out on my page)
MOTIVATION: TO LIVE A BETTER LIFE THAN I HAVE BEEN LIVING BOTH MENTALLY AND FINANCIALLY.
WHY: BECAUSE I WANT BETTER FOR MYSELF AND MY FAMILY
END GOAL: TO BUILD A TRUSTED BRAND NAME WHICH GIVES ME PROFIT.
I understand all of that above may seem a little OTT or big headed but no one ever got anywhere in life if they didn't have faith in who they were and what they offered people.
You can apply to the same model to anything you have a mind to achieve.
Every day go back and look at your goal model and literally go through it and remind yourself why you have set yourself this goal and how you are going to achieve it.
Then follow the steps over and over each day. You can tick things off that only need to be done once or leave them as they are - if you have to go through certains steps to maintain the momentum of the goal achievement.
It's very easy to get off track and I often do but looking at the goal model should be religious; like brushing your teeth.
If it's easier, stick the goal model on the refrigerator or by your computer to remind what your goal is, your motivation to succeed and how you're going to do it.
Don't loose your way in despondency. Just take a deep breath and go back to the goal.
A word of warning: You really have to live, breath and sleep your goal.
There are no excuses other than you just want to dream it but not work for it - therefore you never wanted it badly enough in the first place.
The way I feel about my goals is that they are like food and water, without achieving them I would surely wither and die. Seriously, that's how strongly I want to achieve!
Start with a small goal first and then make them bigger.
And don't forget every time you write a grocery list and you purchase everything you've actually achieved a goal. You wanted to buy groceries. Because your were hungry and or needed to restock. You went to the store. You bought everything on your list. BOOM! Goal achieved.
Yep, it's that simple and I can't believe I wasn't doing it sooner.
I just need to make another one as of course I have some travels to go on etc . So paying for those things are my immediate goals.
I've even written down how I plan to pay for these things. List everything if you have to, like me.
Soon your little notebook will be full, but won't it be a great feeling to see big red tick marks on those goals!
I never thought I'd be a list person but you know I've actually really enjoyed it.
Stay focused because it's more powerful than being unfocused.
