Are You a Bad Receiver?

Poor receivers are usually poor, or they wind up poor.

We are here to give and receive. Never forget the order or the latter.

Red Flags

Do you "feel bad" about receiving nice things?

Do you always refuse to accept if someone offers to pay for your lunch, dinner, etc?

Do you feel the urge to acquire nice things - luxury cars, homes, etc - then in the next breath tell yourself these are for "wealthy people", feeling you don't desire them?

Feel free to add Receiving Red Flags are discuss blockages to receiving. I've had to work very hard on learning how to say "Yes!"

    I know someone who has such a big pride that he never accepts any gift or help from others. I tried to give him something many times, but he refused to accept every single one of them.

    Guess what his status in life now? He's lonely, friendless and poor.

    It's not bad to receive. In fact, it's a blessing that we deserve to have. And by being grateful and appreciative to the one who has given something to us, we are enhancing our relationships and attracting more blessings and abundance into our life.

    Hi Michael,

    Prideful people have a tough time receiving. I know, that's been one of my sticking points

    As I learn to receive abundance - no matter how uncomfortable it feels - I receive increasing amounts of prosperity.

    I have had to overcome this mindset a bit, and be able to strike a good balance between accepting help when offered and becoming a freeloader. Too much help can hinder development, but refusing advice or some help from someone who is in a position to be of service is just silly.

    Good subject Ryan! I am definately more of a giver, I like to give! But, its true, am more reluctant to receive! As someone said, if I can give heartfelt thanks to the person who gave it to me, and know I deserve it too, then I shall be more on the receiving end of all good things! Its good to receive, is a nice motto to have!

    Actually a nice affirmation could be : 'I am open to receiving all the joy and abundance life has to give me!', or 'I am so happy and grateful to be receiving right now!.

    I always thought I was slightly perhaps superior, to be more of a giver than a receiver! This is incorrect, I realise now. Receiving can be just as beautiful and is equally necessary.

    I feel I dont desire them... A part of me wants them. But a part of me does not want them saying it's too materialistic.

    And then off late, I've picked up the habit of oh he's rich and that's why it works for him.

    I'm not rich... that's why things are not working for me.

    Any solution for that?

      Visualize yourself feeling wealthy. Feel wealthy, generate wealth.

      It's OK to have many material things. It's not OK to be attached to them.

        Not sure im a "bad" reciever exactly... but whenever someone asks what i want, come holidays or etc my response is generally that i want nothing. Esspecially if i know it will impose a hardship on the person by doing so, but even when that isnt the case the answer tends to be the same.

        If i want something, i go get it. If its not within my means, i dont bother with it. I dont require much to be happy, and for the most part the things i need arent material things.

        I do however love to give, and flaky as it may sound make other people happy through giving.

        One would think that those two mindsets would be mutually exclusive, but thats how my mind has always worked and its puzzeled me for longer then i can remember.

        You are right on the money Ryan.

        I think we all need to be reminded of this.

        We get so caught up with making money so we can do more than just

    That's a tough attitude to change. I've been working on accepting gifts better and accepting that it is not wrong to be rich.

    Interesting topic and you're right. I find poor receivers can also be poor givers too. To be able to accept graciously shows empathy and also confidence.

    Those who do not accept or receive are perhaps unsure of themselves and lack this confidence or feel they will be in debt to the giver in some way and can't accept that. it's a shame because they miss out on so much in life.
