I still feel like a total beginner in Internet Marketing and although I have certain technical skills which are very useful in running a successful online business, I'm not sure those skills are what are going to make em successful. I think they will help a lot but I think my determination to make it work will get me there in the end.

Success comes from belief and belief is the mother of expectation. Even notice how some people consistently run into roadblocks, barriers and walls? These people will go on about how all the opportunities are gone and how the world is so unfair and how the government should level the playing field and on and on and on...

Then there are people who consistently go out and simply get things done. For the most part, they're positive and don't dwell on failure because to them, there is no failure, only learning.

Both of these types harvest results according to their expectations, beliefs and attitudes. And it all begins with their thinking.

Some would say that we're wired a certain way and that we can't change who we are. And that simply isn't accurate. It's true that if a person comes from a positive and nurturing environment it's probably easier to be positive in his or her daily activities and reap the benefits of their positive attitude. But what about those who came from dysfunctional environments? Do they even have a chance? Of course.

But first they must recognize that their thoughts create their reality. Then they must want to change that reality. Finally, they must take action to change it.

They might start with their self talk. People who are successful engage themselves in positive dialog most of the time. People who manage to find little more than obstacles in life, either consciously or unconsciously, are consistently telling themselves, in a number of non-nurturing ways, I can't, it won't, it never will, etc.

The key to change is to recognize these patterns and immediately stop the pattern once recognized. Some wear a loose rubber band around one wrist. When they notice a non-productive thought, they snap the band to the underside of the wrist (where is really smarts) and interrupt the thought. This helps to break the pattern. After a while the brain realizes that non-productive thoughts are uncomfortable. Easy, huh?

But that's not enough. Stopping the non-productive thinking is only half the challenge. They then have to fill the void where the untoward thoughts once lived. This is where they can repeat a positive affirmation. A good start would be to simply say, "I am worthy, I am successful, I am love, I am abundance." These are all good starts.

Simple? Yes. Easy? You decide.

The single most important thing in building a successful online business is a Concentrated Mental Focus.

For some, such a concept may seem too abrupt, and they may hesitate because a thought tells them that the solution for them cannot be so simply assessed or resolved. I believe perseverance is a key to building a successful online business. I am currently building a personal development blog and sometimes it can be disheartening to see the drop in traffic in Google Analytics. Without perseverance, one could give up easily in building a successful online business.

Great question, I just had someone ask that. I have heard about every answer in the book. I was in the league years back(NFL) and we had so many powerful speakers that was brought in and many of them were not out pushing a website or book (they didn't need to). One answer stands out and that is you have to get all FOUR parts of your mind to get along. Once you've done that you have that peace and anything you put your mind to, make money, lose weight, find a perfect partner, it all comes easy because you are not constantly fighting your self. Once you know how to get everything agreeing then you are on the right path.

I honestly think it's focus, and focus is one thing really underrated by internet marketers.

I think a lot of us operate well below our productivity level because online marketing requires the absorption of a lot of information fast. With new ideas, methods and marketing tools popping up everyday it's easy for us to be looking at one thing while neglecting the other initial priorities.

Great question! I personally believe one of the keys is persistence and mental toughness. On the road to success you will face obstacles and challenges and be told by others that it can't be done.

All the talent or degrees in the world won't matter if you don't have a strong enough "why" to push through the challenges.

To me... success comes from never giving up until you've reached your goal. And... once you've reached your goal, you've created a new one that's even better.

I think Dennis Becker states it perfectly in his book $5 a day...focus. Focus on one thing, finish and master that. It's so easy to get side tracked trying to make money online. There are so many ways to make money and so many ways to market. Jumping from one project to the next was the biggest obstacle for me in creating success.

I'm going to cheat and say the single most important things which brings success is attitutude/mindset and action. If I had to chose one it would be attitude/mindset. Because many externally successful people aren't happy and vice versa.

Agree with zig zag, keep it simple.

I worked for years as a psychologist and have seldom met two people who have exactly the same view on....What is the single most important thing that brings success.

My own simplistic view is to be happy doing what you're doing, and to re-iterate zig zag, I believe that attitudes, beliefs and behaviour are the 3 key attributes.

The 'behaviour' element is the taking action based on your attitude and beliefs. The skillsets and so on will follow if you have these three (ie you will take the attitude that 'learning' is worthwhile, but balance it with trial behaviour ie action). You must of course have the self belief that you can make it too!

to me success comes from the never ending desire to achieve what ever it is that you are targeting. focus and action will come right with it automatically..this is what i have been teaching my students in asia. a lot of them have gone on and had achieved success in their own right...

Smart work, gain an edge over the competition, think what others don't and be positive all the time.

Worked well for me till now.

In the past, the one thing that always held me back from experiencing success was lack of patience. I always wanted to find the shortcut to making money. I never wanted to put in the work, but rather find a way to outsmart everyone else. Nothing wrong with thinking smart, but you need patience. Real success does not happen overnight. For me what gave me the success I have achieved over the past few months was a burning desire to change my financial circumstance and NEVER EVER giving up or losing sight of my goals.

I constantly visualize my purpose and I see it so clearly in my minds eye that I know without a shadow of doubt that I cannot and will not fail. NO MATTER how bad things got or will possibly get.

If you don't develop that burning desire for success and you don't see yourself as successful (even if you aren't their just yet) nothing will change. Your mindset/subconscious can be your best friend or it can be your worst enemy. I chose to make it my best friend.

You also have to act on what you desire. Just believing you are successful by itself does nothing.

I think the single most important quality is a Definiteness of purpose or a single goal to aim for.

The biggest problem in internet marketing is information overload. If you have too many other things going on you will become distracted and give less to all your other projects. Just pick one and give it your all until it is successful or until you can see it won't be, in which case get out and do something else.

The Single most important factor to success is not action, focus, perserverance, determination or any other virtue...

These are all an "effect" or a "result" of one or more beliefs.

Go ahead and try to take action or preservere or focus on something where you have contradictory beliefs...

Think of everything you dont have... everything that comes hard to you... everything that you procrastinate on and you will find you have beliefs that resist.

Until the belief changes the behavior will never change.

Will power is useless...

This is THE SECRET to why things come easy for some and hard for others.

If your beliefs are aligned with your intentions then you are "in the zone" and you feel a certain euphoria - you dont experience "work" anymore because it all becomes play.

You are only supposed to do one thing with your conscious mind:

Experience life.

You are only supposed to answer 2 questions with your conscious mind while your are experiencing life:

1. how are things now?

2. how would I like things to be instead?

Your subconscious is here to do all the "work" in getting YOU from where you are (the answer to the first question) to where you want to be (the answer of the second question).

The conscious mind does the experiencing and the subconscious does the "working".

Most people mix these 2 up...

It has got to be determination for me. Without it, i won't be where i am today.

You know I think the most important thing that brings success is Mindset. You really can't begin to do anything and be successful without the right mindset. Things are going to happen on your road to success that will make you want to slow down or quit. An without the right mindset you will. Especially if you have a employee mindset. I can all most guarantee you will fail. So make sure you have the right mindset and then take action toward reaching your goals and becoming successful.

I believe that success comes from within, each of us is meant to do great things and we will reach our goals through hard work, determination and mental clarity!

For me timing is one of the greatest issue i seriesly consider in IM business.

A great element to always be aware of, is your thought pattern. The way your mind works is simple: it's an upward spiral, or a downward spiral. It's up to you to literally choose which to think of. Also, your mindset will help you immensely when tough decisions or situations arise.

So how do you develop a better mindset? Constantly be aware of your thoughts. I've heard it be referred to as 'meta cognition' before. When you are able to connect the dots between your thought patterns, not only will you be able to realize them and improve them, but also learn a lot about yourself! It's truly incredible.

What three principles should we all try to aim for?
1. Think GOOD thoughts

What type of car do you want to drive? Things of this nature will help you in becoming successful.

I mean tons of stuff has been mentione din this thread - and all of it is true. You need a real mix of things to be successful.

If had to choose just one - it would be perseverance. Anyone who has success knows that your ability to recover from failure will be tested - maybe more than once.

Bouncing back from failure with renewed purpose and whatever you learned from that failure (all failure is a lesson) will lead to success.

I was in a very desperate situation, my boss too angry with me, wife and kids ever demanding, expenses out of control, income squeezing day by day... That was a trough, perfect trough for me and I decided to stand up against all the problems.

The very first thing I did was I faught with my self in front of a Glass Mirror and then decided to only depend on my self never to see towards some one else.

I think the single most important thing is having a BURNING DESIRE to succeed. I believe it has helped me continue on my path to success.

As long as the flame that's inside of me is still hot, I will keep moving ahead. When the flame dies, so will I.

Then a chain starts...I have a belief that i can acheive X. To achieve X i start planning for it. Since i believe i ll achieve it so i think differently on all the possibilities on how i d achieve it so my thinking will be different then before. Then i ll start doing on what i have just thought about/planned/decided. "
Working on it also means preparing for new things, this i ll learn while planning/thinking in my new improved state of mind.
While working i also keep some time rethinking and reflecting on the progress and hence the cycle continues...

The most important thing to bring success, really, the only thing that can bring success is failure. And I mean that quite literally. Not in the sense that "you need to learn from your failures in order to be successful." But rather... success on the one hand doesn't make sense at all unless there is something else we recognize as failure on the other. If you get rid of one they both disappear.

I think the best illustration of this is can be summed up by addressing this issue of belief and desire that keeps popping up.

To say that thought and belief create your reality, as it keeps being repeated here, is to say that your entire experience is limited to the realm of thought.

That's like saying that smells create your reality. It's true, but it's not the whole truth. Sights, sounds, feelings, tastes and thoughts also create your reality. And for those lost in a world of abstractions, it's very useful to go out of your mind and come to your senses once in awhile.

There is a vast world outside of thought, and in reality it's much more accurate to say that rather than create your reality, thought measures it. In the same way inches don't create space, thoughts and beliefs don't create our reality.

The meaning you give to those measurements is your own business.

But all this is critically important to understand because succeeding is a fun game to play, but for those who don't fully understand it for what it is... life will always be full of exhausting struggles and disappointments that will sap the energy and joy right out of you. If you *must* succeed... you'll never enjoy it.

Very good question. I've enjoyed reading all of the comments and seeing how interconnected they are.

My vote is on persistence because I believe every other approach will be tested. Belief will be tested. The burning desire will wane and flame out on Wednesday but pushing through and not quitting through Thursday and beyond will empower all of the other contributions to success to ultimately make a difference.

Persistence, hard work, and then more persistence. Then duck if anyone says you can't do it and keep on walking with that smile and sure knowledge. Have I mentioned, Persistence?

Start small. Keep organised. Plan your day, but most important thing I would say is belief. You've got to be confident in your abilities or it will show in everything you do and produce.

I would bet on someone whom

1) works hard
2) doesn't mind failure (won't say "fears failure")
3) Works hard.....
4) Remove the word "luck" from their dictionary.

spelling errorIt's difficult to say what single charcteristic (if any) is more important than all the others in succeeding online because some people already have persistence, for example, 'wired in' but don't have the judgment to realise that they are persisting with something that's not going to work.
But it's pretty certain that nearly everyone who's arrived at WF Success Forum must already have belief in themselves or at the very least believe that there is a way that they can achieve success for themselves.
I think that intelligent persistence is what has got me to where I am now - that's not to say that I'm very intelligent but I've always been persistent, maybe driven even!
But an ordinary amount of intelligence is required to make me realise that what I'm persisting with isn't working and maybe I should try a few variations to see if I can get something else to work.
I also don't see why any online venture should require different characteristics from any other business - different skills, maybe but you can be very skilful and still not believe you can make a success of an online business or you could just give up without properly applying your skills!

I think that first of all, success comes from the right mindset... You need to be prepared for highs and lows, have some goals and stay motivated no matter what.

It also helps to be in the right place (ie: the right forums, and the right course etc).

You need to be teachable as their are always a lot of things to learn and if you go at it in a "I know it all" attitude, you are likely to fail... Internet marketing is a business which constantly evolves, even the guru's are still learning.

I think a commitment to continuous, positive action is the most important. Belief is great, but, without action, it gets you nowhere. It is also possible, I think, to act against your beliefs and still get closer to success. As in, "I don't think this new marketing ploy will work, but I will dedicate a month to trying it."

Lack of belief will not make it NOT work if it is a quality method that is applied properly.

For me, the two most important things that bring success are passion and focus.

Passion is what drives you toward your goals and gets you to overcome the hurdles that hold your progression back.

Focus is what steers you in the right direction and keeps you on the right path.

Focus defaults me frequently. I need to work on this.

What brings success is really hard work, persistence and a lot of faith. It is also important to have the right timing of things to take place.

Keep your vision on your goal and move incrementally in that direction on a daily basis, and eventually you will get there!

Focus on yourself. Believe yourself. Listen to yourself.

Stop listening or reading anything that others say about your work or field. The moment you doubt yourself... BAM! Say hello to the wall.

In my view, the single most important factor in deciding success is persistance. Read interviews with the most successful people in their fields and you'll find out they say more or less the same. Persistance is more decisive in the long run than intelligence, talent, funds, or any other factor.

In my opinion, the most important thing that brings success to an online business is leads/traffic! I mean, it's true, you can have the best website, the perfect opportunity, and the correct mindset... But nothing counts for nothing without traffic to your opportunity. I say this from personal experience. Just my 2cents!

I would have to argue that it is a culmination of things together that bring success.

But I would say that one thing in particular, at least for me, keeps me going and is the reason for both wanting to be successful and staying on the path to success:

Adversity.

I am a music producer, and I make my best productions, make the most money, and put the most effort into my business when faced with a situation that has made me feel like i "lost".

Rejection from a member of the opposite sex, others saying you cannot be successful, a lack in a particular area of your life that you have always wanted to make up for....these kinds of things are blessings in disguise and can drive us to do the most incredible things.

Desire also fits in hand with this concept.

Success is the end result of many things. It is true. But I firmly believe that the single most important factor for becoming successful in any part of our life is:

Consistent Focused Action

This is what makes the difference between winners and losers.

As far as Internet Marketing is involved we need additional things like:

Learn , Adapt and Improvise with the everyday changing environment (Dynamic Life of Internet)

The person who keeps using old outdated methods can very well lose the race in few months. That is why we need to continuously keep learning and implementing new things in IM to stay ahead of the rat race.

One of the things we do to undermine our success, is that we allow our mind to want to take on 50 things at once. This slows you down in the long run. You end up carrying all the extra stress and this stops you from actually creating more success.

Someone once said to me: learn one thing at a time, learn it well, become an expert, make yourself happy with your accomplishments, then move to the next task.

Hi, I am rather new to the forum and have been mildly successful with internet marketing. However, I have been studying metaphysics and the law of attraction in some detail and I think this applies to the thread.

James Ray says that in order to attain success you must go three for three. He means you must align your thoughts feelings and actions in order for you to hit the sweet spot. If everything is energy and you are trying to gain motivation and postive energy, then it only makes sense to try and line these things up. Especially since it is hard to say one thing and do another.

Then to be more specific, I see its all a matter of attitude. If you like what you are doing and it shows, that covers the thoughts and feelings part of the puzzle. Then if your actions are in congruence that should make you happy and pleased with yourself. Maintaining the feeling of gratitude and appreciation will keep your energy up. Then just stay away from those well meaning folks that often inadvertantly tend to take the wind out of your sails.

Hi, I am rather new to the forum and have been mildly successful with internet marketing. However, I have been studying metaphysics and the law of attraction in some detail and I think this applies to the thread.

James Ray says that in order to attain success you must go three for three. He means you must align your thoughts feelings and actions in order for you to hit the sweet spot. If everything is energy and you are trying to gain motivation and postive energy, then it only makes sense to try and line these things up. Especially since it is hard to say one thing and do another.

Then to be more specific, I see its all a matter of attitude. If you like what you are doing and it shows, that covers the thoughts and feelings part of the puzzle. Then if your actions are in congruence that should make you happy and pleased with yourself. Maintaining the feeling of gratitude and appreciation will keep your energy up. Then just stay away from those well meaning folks that often inadvertantly tend to take the wind out of your sails.

Doing what needs to be done when it needs to be done.

In a single word the single most important thing to me is "Persistence". " Persistence creates Faith. And faith is the only known antidote for failure". It keeps me going to remember that!

If there's one critical component to making it happen online, this is it.

You can have the greatest opportunity, access to the greatest tools, access to the greatest coaches/products, and be living in the midst of the greatest economic boom, and have all the things people blame for NOT succeeding... and you'll waste ALL of your opportunity if you don't stop spending hours a day on Facebook or Twitter bull****ting with people (not marketing or networking) or stop laying on the couch plowing through entire seasons of DVD sets of television shows (series fiction novels is my preference) or shutting down with whatever way you use to distract yourself.

And that's all on you.

The key to success in my experience is to only give yourself comfort - which is what distraction is - only after you've done something that's scary, that's pushing your towards your edge, that's moving progress forward in your life.

If the majority of your waking hours aren't being spent giving your gift and making you proud of yourself, THAT'S precisely when it's easiest to seek solace in comfort. COMFORT = DISTRACTION.

I speak from first hand experience of having behaved as a world class pussy and procrastinator and here's how I turned it around...

Get yourself in the company of someone who won't stand by and let you bring less than you're capable to the table.

If you're a man, your woman can be this "rock in the storm" for you. Men spend billions of dollars every year seeking the devotion and the feeling of women's radiance (magazines, movies, music, etc).

It's hard to have the full respect and adoration of your woman if you're being a douche canoe who wallows in mediocrity because you cling to security, approval and control so fully, that you imprison yourself with all kinds of stories about why the world is against you.

Women totally and completely can sense when a guy is full of ****. AND they know when he's on the path to greatness. Now if on the path to greatness you get so wrapped in work that don't offer her love the way she wants, she'll leave your ass. There's a balance and if you let them, a loving, caring, giving woman can be your greatest asset in succeeding.

Now greatness doesn't necessarily mean having a jillion dollars in the bank. To me, greatness is bringing your unique gift to world, living on purpose, in pursuit of transforming a tiny piece of your world for the better.

If you think this will be hard, you're right.

Anyone who's sought to make a go at pursuing their unique greatness has faced a **** storm of adversity. Everyone. Jesus & all spiritual leaders, Walt Disney, Dan Kennedy, on and on and on. This is supposed to happen.

EXAMPLE: One of the only ways a woman knows she can trust you completely is if in the midst of her furious anger - aka adversity - and disappointment with you, you stay with her and love the **** out of her in. that. moment.

No tuning out. No being macho jerk asshole who punches her into submission. No analytic therapy moves seeking compromise. Just you walking into the storm, radiating raw love and presence to point where she can exhale and let all the tension go in her body knowing she's in the hands of a man who isn't going to run when **** hits the fan.

You know how when people say life is a bitch. Well, when it comes to adversity, you can say that. That bitch won't respect you until you can face her down and appreciate that she's showing you an opportunity to expand and grow.

This example makes me think of the belief that Dan Kennedy has that "All News Is Good News". Everything that happening exactly the way it's supposed to and it's all gonna serve you. Eventually.

But if you don't own this belief, looking for ways to make the worst thing that ever happened to you into the best thing that ever happened to you, you see adversity as something that shouldn't be here in life. Something that's scary that you need to run away from.

STOP IT!!! EMBRACE THE IDEA OF TAKING ACTION AND WELCOME ADVERSITY AS A SIGN THAT YOU'RE MAKING PROGRESS AND THAT YOU'RE ALIVE!!! THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO DON'T HAVE ADVERSITY ARE DEAD! CELEBRATE THAT!

Now if you don't currently have a woman in your life, get a coach. Tough it up and get someone who let you take a dump on yourself but who will actually hold you accountable and who can lead you to realizing your potential. You should also get a coach even if you do have a loving woman in your life. In that instance you've got double insurance that you're gonna step up.

And obviously if you're a woman, you want to find a coach who embodies masculine energy/direction. Man or woman can have this but it's usually men who own it completely. This direction will steer you away from making decisions that don't serve you and will show you options you never let yourself see.

So there it is. My secret to success. Get yourself in the company of someone who in a loving yet firm way won't put up with you being less than you're capable of.

Try it. I know you might not like the feeling of being scared ****less to step out of comfort, but once you do and you experience the other side and feel the pride coursing through your body, you'll always remember the feeling and know that this was exactly what you needed.

Positive action!

Positive means with a focused, positive, can-do attitude, as well as organized, well-executed systematic plans of attack on several fronts (you never know in advance which might succeed, and which may not).

Action includes seeking out a niche with emotional interest to a large number of seekers, looking for the new, the different, and the next big thing (or the old, the tried and true, and the proven).

All together, positive action can do what mere wishful thinking, disorganized planning, and scattered efforts will never accomplish!
