Does It Take Money To Make Money?

To be honest I'm not really an entrepeneur, over the years I've tried a few home businesses and did ok-many of us here have tried more then one HB and failed, there is one thing I've learned throughout the process, it takes money to make money, and from a point of view (from a blue collar guy) that advertising is everything, I see everyone here looks to be doing pretty good for themselves. But after purchasing a few ebooks here many seem to be identical. It's like someone reads it and puts their spin on it to try and sell the same book? After reading all of these I've come to realize that it does take money to make money, and finding the correct category-NOT keywords works so much better when analyzing keywords. I'd just like to know has this effected anyone's personal goals by not being able to afford to advertise on search engines?

I think it would be easier to get to the top faster if you could throw big money at it right away. Is it possible to do alright starting out with less? Yes, but you have to pick and choose your battles and spend wisely.

Where to spend wisely is the question. Buying every ebook training course that promises huge returns doesn't seem like a good idea to me. The person making the huge return just sold you a book. Maybe there's some good ones out there, but free information is everywhere.

Yes. It's like you need a seed to have lots of seeds. Capital is one of the factor that makes a business successful. A business couldn't move when the capital is limited.

I am conflicted about this question. I would say it does take money to make money but also if you have the time you can subsituie.

Now if you don't have time then you have the money, but if you don't have time nor the money then your out of luck. (Unless you can persue people to do both)

Based on my experience, I have to say that we really do need some money to make some more money. Right investment is the key and we should learn to risk as we don't know whether it will be successful or not.

If you don't have the money to invest, might try some freelancing work to gain some. I started up in odesk only earning $.30 per hour for creating youtube accounts until I learn what SEO is and start learning it more. Without bragging, I am proud that after a year of hard work I am now earning $1000 or more in a month which is a great deal for me..

Strive hard and you will be rewarded for it.

    a big YES.

But since we are internet marketers, our capital needs are low.

    BUT

to scale up, you need the cash, start thinking ROI and how you can invest what you earn and make it even bigger.

Think about it this way, if you can ease yourself away from the work by letting other people do it, then you will have time to come up with more ideas.

If you paid x amount and can potentially get 50% more then go for it.

Time is key, yet money will empower it. Go make money! PROFIT!

Of course you need to invest money in a business if you want to succeed.
Sometimes advertising is not the best option, but you're right — it makes things easier for you to succeed. Also it takes more money, so you definitively need to give back some money too, not only grab them and spend.

Yes, money is involved! But once you learn a good system, it shouldn't cost you too much. Adwords sucked my money, as I didn't know what I was doing. But if you learn SEO techniques, they don't take money, they just take more time!
But you can outsource the seo work - but that takes money! & some do it pretty cheaply.

I agree. You don't need money to make money, just your brains.

Having money will allow you to do it faster, but you can also lose it faster too.
I've taken 30,000 and turned it into 100,000 in 6 months...

If you have enough money to buy a domain and hosting that's all you need to make a lot of money online....

You said you're into SEO and it's the best marketing method besides syndication and JVing(both are SHOCKINGLY FREE)

And honestly, you can make money on free blogs too...it's just having your own domain is a huge because you own it and you can sell it off in time.

Great point. Some people here seem to keep wishing about having a certain amount of money to invest in online advertising and IM tools and resources, but they don't realize that without possessing the proper experience and knowledge first, they're more than likely to squander it all away. It's not unlike gambling, especially when you're a newbie who has a ton of money to spend on IM.

As a matter of fact, I'd recommend that newbies spend the least amount of money possible (and mainly use free methods) initially even if they have a ton of money to blow, because putting money for IM into the hands of a newbie is just like giving a loaded gun to a toddler!

it is very hard, slow, and painful to make money without money.

Of course it's possible, but it's more likely you will run out of steam before you even get anywhere.

If it was that easy everyone would be making money.

Get some income to start outsourcing things. This will increase your acheivements ten-fold and you will be moving at a pace that earns you money without burning yourself out.

I disagree with what a lot of people are stating here (except for LD and a few others).

It does not take money to make money. Yes, I myself spent a little bit in the beginning, but I didn't have to. I only chose to do this because I had the money. But honestly... if you don't have money, that doesn't mean you can't make money from nothing.

In the past year I have gotten to the point where I had almost nothing left. Heck last week I had less than $50 in my bank account. But guess what? I took a little time (without spending money) and in the past week I've made over $1,300 and that's still going to grow.

I'm not really trying to put myself in the situation but its the only way I can share my experiences.

So in conclusion, NO you do NOT need money to MAKE money It's very possible to build a very nice amount of income without spending anything at all.

Of course you need money to make money, it's part of life. We all have to deal with it the best way we can. Sometimes shelling out cash to start a business can be the best thing you've ever done, or it could be the worst thing you'll ever do. You just need to know your business will work in this economy, if not, don't try it.

I believe that is true. A lot of work can be done with less money these days. Plus you can save by advertising with twitter and facebook, that is if you have a wide range of followers.

For certain "service" business where you sell your skills or services, you may not need any money to get started. But for most business that you may be interested in, you will DEFINITELY need money to make money. No doubt about it.

Especially if you are a beginner and want to make money online there will be a learning curve so you may need to invest in yourself to get "educated" about how to make money online. Then to be most effective and efficient you will need to invest in the "tools of the trade".

The good thing about IM is that you dont need half as much money to get started online, as you would need for a "traditional" brick and mortar business. But you will need money to start a business.

Yes, it takes money to make money. Unless someone just hand you a business out of generosity.. which is a miracle these days, or even days way way before today. Selling your services will also take money. You acquired your skills through studying and you paid for the lessons you took. There was still an investment somewhere, not just directly. Nowadays, you cannot move without shelling out money. So who intended money that it is now so powerful?

Great post, great replies and great topic! Definitely I agree that with some things, it most certainly takes money to make money. I've created money with TIME! I started off broke, but with a lot of time, and hours of working on my own psychology. I believe that the first thing we need is to elicit our own resources. If you have the psychology of a millionaire, even if you're broke, it's easy to go out there and create money. Nice post, thanks for sharing!

Money is just a form of a 'barrier of entry' - things with higher barriers of entry are usually more profitable because they are harder to get into and therefore less competitive.

So if you don't want to invest money my best advice would be find something that has a HIGH barrier of entry that is not financial.

Examples of that are start a business that has a ton of red tape and just takes a ton of time to start but doesn't require a lot of capital or something that requires special licensing or connections that you have access to.

    No!

Whoever tells you this either has something they want to sell you OR they've picked up the idea from someone who isn't creative.

This is one of the most crippling limiting beliefs out there.

Money is an idea. Are you charged per idea?

You can tap into an infinite flow of creative, prospering ideas in a moment's notice.

I've generated handsome cash flow using all FREE advertising methods. Haven't paid a cent for my marketing campaign and I am doing OK

Technically, if you have a marketable skill, you could sell your services on sites like elance.com for very little, but ultimately you do need to invest money in order to make it. Even when selling a service you need to brand yourself and play the part, which often requires money (unless of course you can design your own website, logo, etc.).
