Clean up the clutter and clear up your focus

I'm on a binge today.

I'm unsubscribing from lists like a man on a mission. I'm only staying subscribed to lists which I have an ongoing need to be subscribed to, or the handful of marketers who do not abuse their list by sending sale email after sale email and little else.

I've become more keenly aware, over the past couple of months, just how overloaded my inbox is and just how much is truly junk... which takes far too much time to sort out and deal with.

Every minute is valuable and the less I have to deal with junk and clutter the more time I have to do what I should be AND... the less likely I will be to be distracted by "shiny new objects".

Focus is key and anything that you can do to increase focus will help you achieve your goals.

Unsubscribe from a list today and you'll have one less distraction to deal with !!!

Good luck.

I definitely agree that distractions are abundant online and it takes a real effort to focus on the things that are important to you and your online business. I'm as guilty as anyone else I know of being sucked into procrastination and diverted by all kinds of shiny new things found on the Net.

I make an effort to remember and practice this simple formula:

    F - Follow
    O - One
    C - Course
    U - Until
    S - Successful

P.S. Unsubscribing from all those spammy lists of overzealous marketers is a really good start!

That should be every IM'ers mantra.

This is SOOOOOO good! I am making this my motto for 2011!

It will call for discipline to block out all the "noise" and distractions, but I have seen so many threads here this week talking about the value of FOCUSING to reach the next level in your business, that by now I am convinced that its a "greater power" trying to tell me something.

      And I am listening! :-)

I totally agree with this. We need to focus on the things we are supposed to deal with first. If something fails, try a new method. That's how I think anyways.

Yes I think your right, having unsubscribed from hundreds of e-mail lists over the past few months from various e-mails. Although I have noticed a rise in spam e-mails from other anonymous addresses, advertising not so salubrious things.

OK, ya got me on the word "salubrious" so for the benefit of others:

      salubrious (səˈluːbrɪəs)
      -- adj
conducive or favourable to health; wholesome [C16: from Latin salūbris, from salūs health]

Another email explosion to avoid is the ad-swap trend that seems to be growing exponentially these days. Everyone is doing it... because it works.

If you fall prey to that freebie that is offered, make sure you really need it before you opt-in and add your name to another list. Most free reports are worth exactly what you pay for them...

I agree niteprowler, and I have been attempting to do the same thing lately. Every day deleting some subsciptions to things I am not really watching anymore!

Worse still, is that I have a Blackberry mobile, and all my emails also go to it! So I get SO many emails to my blackberry as well! I have over 300 on it right now. It really is time consuming to delete them all from there every day!

Really need to keep unsubscribing! Feels like life is out of control, so will have to be strict and delete most of them.
