Jung personality assessment, what type are you?

Jung sketched 16 personality types, each one with strengths and weaknesses.

Oftentimes I see people who do great online and oftentimes people who do not do so good.

To be able to go somewhere, we need to have a clear image of where we are now, who we are. Then we can trace the path on the map to go where we want.

here is the test: Personality test based on Jung and Briggs Myers typology

72 questions, and if answered giving it some thought and being truthful, maybe some ideas about what to do with the online business will come up.

here is mine... interesting challenge to make it close with marketing, only now I´m getting there...

I´m INFJ... but apparently not much of a J:

Your Type is
INFJ
Introverted Intuitive Feeling Judging
33 88 38 1

From Keirsey Temperament Website - Portrait of the Idealist® Counselor (INFJ)

Counselors have an exceptionally strong desire to contribute to the welfare of others, and find great personal fulfillment interacting with people, nurturing their personal development, guiding them to realize their human potential. Although they are happy working at jobs (such as writing) that require solitude and close attention, Counselors do quite well with individuals or groups of people, provided that the personal interactions are not superficial, and that they find some quiet, private time every now and then to recharge their batteries. Counselors are both kind and positive in their handling of others; they are great listeners and seem naturally interested in helping people with their personal problems. Not usually visible leaders, Counselors prefer to work intensely with those close to them, especially on a one-to-one basis, quietly exerting their influence behind the scenes.

Counselors are scarce, little more than three percent of the population, and can be hard to get to know, since they tend not to share their innermost thoughts or their powerful emotional reactions except with their loved ones. They are highly private people, with an unusually rich, complicated inner life. Friends or colleagues who have known them for years may find sides emerging which come as a surprise. Not that Counselors are flighty or scattered; they value their integrity a great deal, but they have mysterious, intricately woven personalities which sometimes puzzle even them.

Counselors tend to work effectively in organizations. They value staff harmony and make every effort to help an organization run smoothly and pleasantly. They understand and use human systems creatively, and are good at consulting and cooperating with others. As employees or employers, Counselors are concerned with people's feelings and are able to act as a barometer of the feelings within the organization.

Blessed with vivid imaginations, Counselors are often seen as the most poetical of all the types, and in fact they use a lot of poetic imagery in their everyday language. Their great talent for language-both written and spoken-is usually directed toward communicating with people in a personalized way. Counselors are highly intuitive and can recognize another's emotions or intentions - good or evil - even before that person is aware of them. Counselors themselves can seldom tell how they came to read others' feelings so keenly. This extreme sensitivity to others could very well be the basis of the Counselor's remarkable ability to experience a whole array of psychic phenomena.

ok, this is interesting... because the analysis of the ISFJ personality gives you the main treats of a business model that will work for you guys. Maybe it is similar to the one you are already using?

ISFJ needs long term proven systems, so stay away from the fast, new and furious and stick to programs that have proved success along the years.

they are also not into innovation, follow the trail of those who did it and succeeded. And look for evergreen niches.

the need to be at service and the toughness to deal with ugly subjects can be fulfilled by dealing with desperate niches, or at least distressed niches better than fashion, jokes or stuff like it.

There is probably more to get from there, just some thoughts.

This is what I know about ISFJ, we tend to be very sensitive about peoples feeling, and we most of the time don't mind sacrificing if that means someone else is happy, almost selfless if you will..... problem comes when we sacrifice too much and when we dont realize we are being taken for granted....

the trick for ISFJ people is to realize that they are ISFJ, therefore minimizing the possibility of being taken for granted....

This is exactly where I am going with this thread, sort of... for the longest time I have been telling people that there is no a one for all business model, and that the personality types will affect the right path to success.

ISFJ are not the most sensitive, haven´t seen any empath ISFJ so far, most are INFJ like me, go figure...

but they do tend to mother their group of influence (father?)

also the loyalties are strong but more first chakra or second chakra related, that is, they sacrifice for their family/group, whatever the meaning it has for them.

About being taken for granted... what others do is a mirror image of the internal attitude. When any person gives himself/herself space, after some shaking and "group sense of order breakthroughs" the others follow.

LOL, I wish! That describes the ENFP. The first letter makes all the difference in the world.

                  INFP, The Healer.

They conceive of the world as an ethical, honorable place, full of wondrous possibilities and potential goods.
(an easy target for the unscrupulous because they assume everyone has good intent)

At work, Healers are adaptable, welcome new ideas and new information, are patient with complicated situations, but impatient with routine details.
(constantly distracted by the next shiny object)

When making decisions, Healers follow their heart not their head, which means they can make errors of fact, but seldom of feeling.
(there is no room for "feeling" or intuition in business!)

They have a gift for interpreting stories, as well as for creating them, and thus often write in lyric, poetic fashion.
(completely at odds with the extreme literalness of the Internet)

This personality type is also values-driven and is incapable of doing things that are not congruent with their personal values (which applies to a lot of the IM things I've tried and failed at)

        Ok, you are both mastermind.

for what it says about them, mastermind will have a slow start in marketing as they need to know what they are doing and have strategies for developing, scaling, plan b and exit plan... but once they have one system working, they might be unstoppable.

Being very pragmatic, affiliate marketing with automation of all colors, might be the starting business model. Probably would choose if possible things like ads to sales page or CPA. Things where there is no much need of customer interaction, at least at the beginning.

automation and outsourcing might come much faster than in other groups. As soon as it can be afforded, more than waiting to need it.

specialization in creating systems, like different funnel strategies, massive split testing, or automation soft can be favorites when jumping in to IM as a niche.

INTJ are among the rational ones, but you do have intuition. You are mastermind, very good for business.

You seem to have some mindset and focus issues to work over. Anyway... not of my business

Interesting! I am an INFJ :
    • distinctively expressed introvert
    • moderately expressed intuitive personality
    • moderately expressed feeling personality
    • slightly expressed judging personality
Counselors themselves can seldom tell how they came to read others' feelings so keenly. This extreme sensitivity to others could very well be the basis of the Counselor's remarkable ability to experience a whole array of psychic phenomena. Although they are happy working at jobs (such as writing) that require solitude and close attention, Counselors do quite well with individuals or groups of people, provided that the personal interactions are not superficial, and that they find some quiet, private time every now and then to recharge their batteries.

So true! Thank you for posting. I can't stop loving and taking personality tests. Makes me know myself better. And more often than not, they are so true. Even the negative ones. It is interesting how they get to know someone through a few questions. And they just find the right words to describe me. Haha.

      Counselor, welcome to the club

Are you highly empathic? borderline wohoo?

The business models that have worked for me are service. I have been running a web design (+writing / tech services / research / a bit of everything) company for 8 years. And now I´m getting to fifth chakra so I am feeling very strong the need to find my voice.

This translated in looking for a niche where I can make a difference and putting all my eggs there. Community, store, books (still working on it)... all around that niche.

      INFJ.

It used to frustrate me when other people didn't see something that was so glaringly obvious to me. After reading about my personality type, I realized that people really just don't see the same things in a situation that INFJ's do. It's all surface for them.

I've also learned to trust my intuition more.

I know. Sometimes I find a good niche but if I can't get excited about building out content about it, I really have to think twice about it. Even if I outsource the content writing, I still need to be able to come up with a good content theme.

I have seen some aggressive marketing doing research for third parties, and my stomach shrinks... Actually the best way to find the latest hot properties for link planting is to follow their trail.

but I did find a way out with social and bookmarking.

and the niches... yes, played around for some time and it was ok, but after I got to fifth chakra things changed dramatically. Didn´t really expect it.

      Inspector...

You are good with rules and regulations. You might be a good outsourcer.

You also like organization, and proven systems. Stay away from the cool and hip and go after the oldies but goodies. Also, look for products with step by step documentation and well organized when you are looking to buy.

About the business model... I´m thinking on something with many moving parts, like a service where you are the middle man. You might be good at tech stuff, but there are more elements to this.

You would be a great inclusion in a team, forum moderator for example, or tech support.

The main characteristic of inspectors is dependability, so once you have your own products you will make them spotless.

Do you have a hobby? like car detailing? computer building? you might want to start building a business around it.

INTJ - and the description for the most part is spot on for me.

Interesting John posted he had the same result - I've also taken this an similar tests several times over the years with the same result.

Slightly disturbing to score 100 in introversion but if it means I can be compared to Jung & Gandhi then that works for me! Well I started off running my own mail-order business but now find myself working as a business consultant so that makes the test spot on both personally and professionally. I've always been fascinated to understand what makes people tick and talk one-to-one. On a superficial level I have a feeling people will always be a mystery to me.

I enjoyed taking the test. Like many of those here, I scored an INFJ:

        Introverted Intuitive Feeling Judging
        Strength of the preferences %

        56 75 30 11

This is described as a Counselor, which fits pretty well my chosen career and my current activities on the internet.

I'd like to see a score that includes a measure for anxiety, as well. I've taken that test a couple of times and scored 1/10 (16PF). On a 45 question test for Anxiety that a friend took for the military (he was allowed to keep the questionnaire) I scored 0, which suggests that I handle stress well.

I guess it's unsurprising that internet marketers tend to register scores for IN (Introversion and Intuition). I would expect stand-up comedians to have a different profile.

So this thread is still going. It's interesting to see the breakdown of the personality types. Of the 23 test results posted, the largest percentages are for types that have the lowest percentage in the general population.

This has been standard fare for entering college freshmen for years - primarily aimed at helping them with their study skills and time management.

Many of us in graduate school (not psych majors) blew this off as pseudo-scientific mumbo-jumbo. We had to take the damned thing, regardless, but we did get them to compromise - assuming that we could blow it's credibility completely off the charts.

Everyone took the test for themselves, and then for a couple of others in the group.
Needless to say, we were mildly shocked when the results were consistently within 8 points. (The only outliers were dating each other - which adequately explains that, I think.)

The results weren't much of a Eureka! moment for any of us, but it probably is for a lot of those entering freshmen unless they've already been exposed to it in high school.

It's free, anonymous, only takes a few minutes and you get an instant summary of the results. It's helpful, though, only insofar as you're answers are honest, not what you wish they were or think they should be.

Wow! you have just made me tick. Do you know something? i am one person who is very passionate in understanding personalities in a graet deal. I think i have done personality tests approximately more than thirty times. It is a great desire in me. Some tests have told me i am an INFJ too, some have said i am an ISFP, SOME have said i have mixed traits of melancholy about 56% and phlegmatic about 40%, with melancholy having higher points seconded by phlegmaic and about 3% of sanguine. I also noted that i am a type six, who is an ambivalent character who changes from time to time like a chamelion, hence making people say that i am easy to like but hard to understand.

      From Kerisery Temperament Website

"Of the four aspects of strategic analysis and definition it is the marshaling or situational organizing role that reaches the highest development in the Fieldmarshal. As this kind of role is practiced some contingency organizing is necessary, so that the second suit of the Fieldmarshal's intellect is devising contingency plans. Structural and functional engineering, though practiced in some degree in the course of organizational operations, tend to be not nearly as well developed and are soon outstripped by the rapidly growing skills in organizing. But it must be said that any kind of strategic exercise tends to bring added strength to engineering as well as organizing skills."

Pretty accurate, I'm currently studying Management Information Systems in college. Involves the business side of IT and a little bit of programming...amazing how accurate the test is.

No need for concern I am all those things.

Portrait of an ESTP - Extraverted Sensing Thinking Perceiving
      (Extraverted Sensing with Introverted Thinking)

      The Doer

As an ESTP, your primary mode of living is focused externally, where you take things in via your five senses in a literal, concrete fashion. Your secondary mode is internal, where you deal with things rationally and logically.

ESTPs are outgoing, straight-shooting types. Enthusiastic and excitable, ESTPs are "doers" who live in the world of action. Blunt, straight-forward risk-takers, they are willing to plunge right into things and get their hands dirty. They live in the here-and-now, and place little importance on introspection or theory. The look at the facts of a situation, quickly decide what should be done, execute the action, and move on to the next thing.

ESTPs have an uncanny ability to perceive people's attitudes and motivations. They pick up on little cues which go completely unnoticed by most other types, such as facial expressions and stance. They're typically a couple of steps ahead of the person they're interacting with. ESTPs use this ability to get what they want out of a situation. Rules and laws are seen as guidelines for behavior, rather than mandates. If the ESTP has decided that something needs to be done, then their "do it and get on with it" attitude takes precendence over the rules. However, the ESTP tends to have their own strong belief in what's right and what's wrong, and will doggedly stick to their principles. The Rules of the Establishment may hold little value to the ESTP, but their own integrity mandates that they will not under any circumstances do something which they feel to be wrong.

ESTPs have a strong flair for drama and style. They're fast-moving, fast-talking people who have an appreciation for the finer things in life. They may be gamblers or spendthrifts. They're usually very good at story telling and improvising. They typically makes things up as they go along, rather than following a plan. They love to have fun, and are fun people to be around. They can sometimes be hurtful to others without being aware of it, as they generally do not know and may not care about the effect their words have on others. It's not that they don't care about people, it's that their decision-making process does not involve taking people's feelings into account. They make decisions based on facts and logic.

ESTP's least developed area is their intuitive side. They are impatient with theory, and see little use for it in their quest to "get things done". An ESTP will occasionally have strong intuitions which are often way off-base, but sometimes very lucid and positive. The ESTP does not trust their instincts, and is suspicious of other people's intuition as well.

The ESTP often has trouble in school, especially higher education which moves into realms where theory is more important. The ESTP gets bored with classes in which they feel they gain no useful material which can be used to get things done. The ESTP may be brilliantly intelligent, but school will be a difficult chore for them.

The ESTP needs to keep moving, and so does well in careers where he or she is not restricted or confined. ESTPs make extremely good salespersons. They will become stifled and unhappy dealing with routine chores. ESTPs have a natural abundance of energy and enthusiasm, which makes them natural entrepreneurs. They get very excited about things, and have the ability to motivate others to excitement and action. The can sell anyone on any idea. They are action-oriented, and make decisions quickly. All-in-all, they have extraordinary talents for getting things started. They are not usually so good at following through, and might leave those tasks to others. Mastering the art of following through is something which ESTPs should pay special attention to.

ESTPs are practical, observant, fun-loving, spontaneous risk-takers with an excellent ability to quickly improvise an innovative solution to a problem. They're enthusiastic and fun to be with, and are great motivators. If an ESTP recognizes their real talents and operates within those realms, they can accomplish truly exciting things.

I am personally a fan of the Four Temperaments, a very misunderstood process but very accurate once you understand how they work and what they are there for. One personality type does not describe an individual fully like the Jung personality test, but rather accurately portrays their motivations behind their actions. Many people's two temperaments can be identified within minutes of interacting with them.

I am a Phlegmatic/Melancholy. Here's the best explanation I've seen on the four temperaments: Fig Hunter - Temperaments

The test resembles yourself at a specific point in time... it can change in an instant, following key events in your life.

That is why you may meet someone at the high school reunion and they appear a different person...

INTP -- yes, only 3% (or 1% by some measures) of the general population is INTP, but there are several in this thread.

Question: Are Warriors more likely to be INTPs than average?

      OR

Are INTPs more likely to be interested in a thread on personality types than average?

My guess is that it's the latter :-)

Hehe, really nice... I like that...

ENFJs are the benevolent 'pedagogues' of humanity. They have tremendous charisma by which many are drawn into their nurturant tutelage and/or grand schemes. Many ENFJs have tremendous power to manipulate others with their phenomenal interpersonal skills and unique salesmanship. But it's usually not meant as manipulation -- ENFJs generally believe in their dreams, and see themselves as helpers and enablers, which they usually are.

ENFJs are global learners. They see the big picture. The ENFJs focus is expansive. Some can juggle an amazing number of responsibilities or projects simultaneously. Many ENFJs have tremendous entrepreneurial ability.

ENFJs are, by definition, Js, with whom we associate organization and decisiveness. But they don't resemble the SJs or even the NTJs in organization of the environment nor occasional recalcitrance. ENFJs are organized in the arena of interpersonal affairs. Their offices may or may not be cluttered, but their conclusions (reached through feelings) about people and motives are drawn much more quickly and are more resilient than those of their NFP counterparts.

ENFJs know and appreciate people. Like most NFs, (and Feelers in general), they are apt to neglect themselves and their own needs for the needs of others. They have thinner psychological boundaries than most, and are at risk for being hurt or even abused by less sensitive people. ENFJs often take on more of the burdens of others than they can bear.

    What a surprise.

All Rationals are good at planning operations, but Masterminds are head and shoulders above all the rest in contingency planning. Complex operations involve many steps or stages, one following another in a necessary progression, and Masterminds are naturally able to grasp how each one leads to the next, and to prepare alternatives for difficulties that are likely to arise any step of the way. Trying to anticipate every contingency, Masterminds never set off on their current project without a Plan A firmly in mind, but they are always prepared to switch to Plan B or C or D if need be.

Masterminds are rare, comprising no more than one to two percent of the population, and they are rarely encountered outside their office, factory, school, or laboratory. Although they are highly capable leaders, Masterminds are not at all eager to take command, preferring to stay in the background until others demonstrate their inability to lead. Once they take charge, however, they are thoroughgoing pragmatists. Masterminds are certain that efficiency is indispensable in a well-run organization, and if they encounter inefficiency -- any waste of human and material resources -- they are quick to realign operations and reassign personnel. Masterminds do not feel bound by established rules and procedures, and traditional authority does not impress them, nor do slogans or catchwords. Only ideas that make sense to them are adopted; those that don't, aren't, no matter who thought of them. Remember, their aim is always maximum efficiency.

In their careers, Masterminds usually rise to positions of responsibility, for they work long and hard and are dedicated in their pursuit of goals, sparing neither their own time and effort nor that of their colleagues and employees. Problem-solving is highly stimulating to Masterminds, who love responding to tangled systems that require careful sorting out. Ordinarily, they verbalize the positive and avoid comments of a negative nature; they are more interested in moving an organization forward than dwelling on mistakes of the past.

Masterminds tend to be much more definite and self-confident than other Rationals, having usually developed a very strong will. Decisions come easily to them; in fact, they can hardly rest until they have things settled and decided. But before they decide anything, they must do the research. Masterminds are highly theoretical, but they insist on looking at all available data before they embrace an idea, and they are suspicious of any statement that is based on shoddy research, or that is not checked against reality.
Very accurate, and obviously very closely related to how I run my business.

Also, I disagree that the test is based on yourself at one point in time and can frequently change... I took it as part of career planning about age 13 or 14, forgot about it, took it again at age 19, and scored an INTJ each time. The only changes were that I became more extreme in almost all of my preferences.

Healers present a calm and serene face to the world, and can seem shy, even distant around others. But inside they're anything but serene, having a capacity for personal caring rarely found in the other types. Healers care deeply about the inner life of a few special persons, or about a favorite cause in the world at large. And their great passion is to heal the conflicts that trouble individuals, or that divide groups, and thus to bring wholeness, or health, to themselves, their loved ones, and their community.

There are no "bad" personality types. They're just different, though they've got their strengths and weaknesses. As an ENTJ, I tend to be a little impatient. An ENFP might lack follow-through, etc.

MBTI is a great tool to suggest possible weaknesses that you might've never given a second thought.

I love MBTI and I've spend many hours learning about it (and my INTJ type). While online tests can give a good indicator as to what your personality type is, plenty of people get confused over the percentages. One way to confirm your type is obviously to read a few descriptions and settle on the one that describes you best.

Another insightful method to confirm and learn about the strengths and weaknesses of your type is by learning about the individual functions that make up the 4 letter code.

For those curious to learn more about MBTI, I recommend you read the following.

Jung observed two types of general cognition: Perception (taking in information) and Judgment (making decisions/evaluating it.)

He said that there are two styles of Perception: Sensing (which deals with immediate, concrete, tangible sensory impressions) and iNtuition (which deals with abstract patterns and relationships between things or ideas, and other non-tangible information.)

There are also two styles of Judgment: Thinking (which deals with impersonal logic and structure) and Feeling (which deals with personal/interpersonal ethics and morality.)

Furthermore, each of these four processes can be directed inwardly (introverted), which means it's conceptualized subjectively in terms of the self, or externally (extroverted), which means it's conceptualized objectively in terms of not-self.

Introverted attitudes view the outer world in terms of the self's subjective ideal, so they attempt to make the outer world more like the inner self. Their focus is deeper but less expansive--they can see all the implications of one idea at a time.

Extroverted attitudes view the inner world in terms of the non-self's objective ideal, so they attempt to make the inner self more like the outer world. Their focus is broader but more shallow--they can see a wide range of different information at once, but in less detail.

The above is an excerpt of a great article explaining the different functions in a way that's fairly easy to understand. The article can be found here: personalitycafe.com/cognitive-functions/24032-intro-function-theory-more-detailed-descriptions-each-function-attitude.html.

This following article gives examples of how these functions manifest in real life: personalitycafe.com/articles/51137-4-perceiving-functions-box.html

I'm ENTJ. I googled "ENTJ business" and found this:

ENTJs generally have the following traits:

Driven to turn theories into plans
    Highly value knowledge
    Future-oriented
    Natural leaders
    Impatient with inefficiency and incompetence
    Want things structured and orderly
    Excellent verbal communication skills
    Dislike routine, detail-oriented tasks
    Self-confident
    Decisive

ENTJs are especially well suited to be leaders and organization builders. They have the ability to clearly identify problems and innovative solutions for the short and long-term well being of an organization. Having a strong desire to lead, they're not likely to be happy as followers. ENTJs like to be in charge, and need to be in charge to take advantage of their special capabilities.

Why thank you, science! I'm flattered

very logical, aloof, perfectionist, analytical, loner, private, detached from their bodies, hates conservative rules, love difficult theoretical challenges. So true.

I actually browsed about INTJ after this forum. I actually giggled to remember I kept an IM journal and actually wrote stuff like "date - experiment 1, experiment 2 - result - conclusion" :p. this is so INTJ. And I even searched on Scientific Journals and go to public library only to find a blog or autoresponder content.

I've been learning handwriting analysis, palm reading, face rading, Socrates' 4 personalities, and eneagram's 9-personalities all to unravel the human's personality mystery, but how can I overlook at this one!
