Incantations - The Power to Change your Brain

Incantations are a powerful thing. That is embodying a phrase over and over again, until it starts to embed itself into your mind. When you give an unquestioned command to your brain, it tends to stick around. The more you reinforce that command, you actually strengthen links between nerve cells in your brain. This is why affirmations work so well but I suggest using your voice, your body and engaging your senses and emotions at the same time! They're great for self assurance, creating new skills, getting into peak brain states and thousands of other things! Thanks for reading.

In Think and Grow Rich Napoleon Hill calls it the power of Auto-Suggestion, but whatever you call it, it works much better when you put strong emotions and visualization behind them.

Well just a simple question to the above two. have you seen it work for yourself practically? if yes then share your experiences.

Great question! The truth is, most people's brains never learn how this works, so from the outside, it's easy to get skeptical. The human brain has an amazing ability to literally re-wire itself. This means that the way the neurons in your brain talk to each other, can be changed from experience, and quite fantastically by thinking and doing these kinds of exercises. This is called cortical remapping, and I've personally "high performanced" my life as a result of consciously engaging in these kinds of exercises, knowing I was changing my brain. In fact, I still condition my mind everyday. You see, when I tell you to think of the idea that you're creative, your brain will fire off whatever it already has linked up to that idea. You may see yourself being creative, you may think of something you've created in your past, or conversely you may have some other kind of restricting image, dialog or reference that tells you you're not creative. This is because literally, it's linked up that way in your nervous system. In that case, if you take a well formed phrase like "My Creativity is inherent, and flows to me effortlessly," and took 20 minutes a day, for 10 days to repeat that phrase using your body, and your emotions, it would literally start to redirect your mind. Thinking of it in terms of neuroscience, you're going in there and creating new "neural pathways," or roadways that connect nerve cells together. Since your brain is an energy hog, initially it's going to want to take the old route. But if you consistently practice a new route, your brain will take that route. It's like paths in the woods. In life, we can either walk through the paths that are there for us, or we can muscle through the paths we want to walk through. Initially, it will take some strength and movement, but eventually, it becomes effortless. A great way to know you've successfully installed something new in your mind is it works automatically, and you don't have to give much conscious effort toward it.

I changed what I thought about creativity, success, entrepreneurship, what I was capable of, how fast I can learn information, the kind of communicator I am and more. I learned to distinguish between identity, and just a habit in the physiology of my brain. I learned to speak in public, to do coaching calls, and to train people in real life to use the elements that have changed my life. In fact, from consciously and relentlessly engaging in these kinds of exercises, I've changed everything in my life completely, not just my socks or my tie, MY WHOLE LIFE! But life is a very human way of saying mind. Let me also add that when it comes to intentionally restructuring the way you process information, being practical is the last thing you want to do. Being practical with things like personal change is a great path to mediocrity. Being relentlessly creative, has a lot of power.

Thanks for commenting, I hope that clears it up for anyone wanting to know the power of incantations. I definitely agree that imaging things in your mind also has a profound effect on your unconscious while you're saying these phrases. The bottom line is, you're changing your brain, and that has a lot of power!

I first learned this wayyyyy backkkk when I was 21 and joined the Air Force. I wasn't very good in school, the only class I was good in was math (A+) and everything else was C and D grades.

When I went into the service I decided to prove to myself that I wasn't stupid. I focused on good grades, studied and kept telling myself that I'm smart and I can do this. I graduated from tech-school with a 94 average.

That showed me I could do something when I put my mind to it. The next one was when I started body building. I told myself I could do it, pictured myself growing and becoming stronger and within 2 years I had 18 inch arms and was benching over 400 pounds.

So yes it has worked for me. Keep my goal in focus, visualize the outcome and keep repeating to myself I can do it, and whatever else I want to embed into my subconscious.

Incantations are a form of positive reinforcement, but such things are not as valuable as self-talk, IMO. Incantations, by their nature, call on some outside force. Self-talk is more direct.

Many people have a flood of negative thoughts running through their mind. Positive self-talk overcomes that. You simply identify the self-defeating things you think or say about yourself (like "My skills are bad," I'm stupid," "I am a failure.") and replace them with kind words and thoughts about yourself.

We all need positive self-talk. It helps us think correctly about ourselves.

The good grades in tech-school happen right away... and continued over a 7 month period.
The body building developed over time, I had to learn what I was doing, find out what worked for me and so forth all said I saw great result within the year and fantastic results by the end of 2 years.

You just have to keep visualizing and holding your goals in your mind and focusing on it.

Great question. Not long. When you're talking about transformation, you're really talking about the way neurons talk to each other in your brain. As soon as you feel different, done.

I've had many transformations. In fact, I think it's a healthy thing to consistently expand yourself. Transformations using these kind of mind exercises for me take 1 day. Altering your internal processes gets a lot easier, the more you do it. Thanks for asking!

Yes feeling differently due to realignment of neurons is the first step before the physical manifestation actually happens, I think.

One of the best things about positive self talk, incantations or whatever you choose to call them, they are several times more powerful then negative ones. If I remember correctly at one time I read somewhere that a phrase of positive self talk was nearly 10 times more powerful then a negative one. So while it may seem like they don't really work in the beginning, even with a 10 to 1 ratio you have to remember... you have years of negative self talk and programing you need to deal with. It's going to take some time. But it will be well worth it.

    Ryan,

What comes to my mind is "With great power comes great responsibility." This is valid both when someone has power over others, as well as power over self.

One must be very careful when altering the self. Without going into details, I've gone down this route. I got everything I wished for. Absolutely everything. At the same time, I lost a lot of things, things that I left out of my thought process, which I deeply regret today.

My experience? Be careful what you wish for, it might come true. When something change in one part of life, it always affect the other parts. Not always the way you imagine.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and improving the life for many.
