2011 - Are You Ready?

I sent this out to my mailing list. Several people mailed me and said is deserved a wider audience. So I tweaked it a bit and here it is....

How was 2010 for you?

Seriously, I'm interested.

Did you achieve everything you set out to do online this year? Did you make as much money as you hoped?

Or was there a huge gap between what you wanted to achieve and what actually happened?

The big news is you do not have to worry about it too much. There is no need to beat yourself up as a terrible failure.

We all make mistakes, miss things, cut corners and under-achieve. I do more often than I succeed if I am honest.

The difference between being a success and a failure in online money making is ensuring that your "wins" are big enough to overpower the failures.

2010 is nearly over. So forget it, it's gone.

So....what are your plans for 2011? what are you going to achieve and how?

Have you planned where you are moving your business? Have you considered your knowledge-gaps and blind-spots honestly?

In short: have you laid the foundations to achieve more next year than you did this year?

If the answer is "no" or "not yet" or "sort of", then look up....there is a HUGE red light above your head flashing like crazy.

You need to know where you are going in 2011.

My favourite quote ever is:

"Any road will get you there, if you do not know where you are going...."

Don't fall into the trap that many people do - fail to plan and then spend your whole time casting about for the solutions as you travel the road.

So make a plan, decide on realistic targets.

Look at the skills you need and the problems you need to solve. Research what it will cost. Not what it will cost if you panic and throw money at the problem down the line - I mean what it will cost if you research the best solution and deal with the problem before you begin.

The biggest mistake people I coach/mentor seem to make is to start off with a "great" idea, and then spend their whole time fighting against the things they should have planned and sorted out BEFORE they began trying to make money from that idea. It is a simple thing to do, and if you do it, you will make more money, more quickly and with less tears.

If you are on the brink of giving up completely, feeling a failure, my advice is...

DON'T YOU DARE!

The issue is not that you are a failure, it is that your planning, knowledge, clarity or chosen path are not 100% right for where you are now.

It is NOT that you have failed. I almost screamed when I saw someone give up a few weeks ago, when I knew they were on the up, they were close to turning things around. But they had let the failure and fears overwhelm them.

They left money on the table because they could not overcome their past mindset and behaviour.

So my top tip for 2011, 2012, 2013 etc, is simple.

Have a plan. have a clue.

Do not ready, fire, aim.

Have a great holiday season and a peaceful and productive 2011.

This year is not yet over. Yes, you can still achieve something spectacular within the next 15 days. I can bet my life on it.

As for me, I have not really got all my expectations this but I'm happy it was not bad after all.

I'm hopeful that 2011 will be a great year for me.

Great post, I am spending this weekend going over this year, and what I want to achieve next year. Some people take a week to do this, other people a few hours but I have decided with my current schedule to take the weekend.

Im going to be working on writing a journel next year so I can better categorise what i have achieved in the year as I can't remember half the stuff I've done or learnt and thus it makes it harder to find those wonderful things that I have achieved as opposed to those disasters.

Last year I "began" 2010 the second week of December. Tomorrow I am beginning 2011.

Why? Because it's so tempting to sit back and wait for Jan 1 - even though you know that's a holiday and you may find an excuse t wait till Jan 2 or 3 or 4.

What I do is start preparing any new plans for the new year in advance and start doing the daily tasks on it so by Jan 1 they are part of my schedule.

Sounds crazy but it worked very well in 2010 so I'm staying with it. I met my goals for 2010 so have doubled them for 2011 - and I need a running start.

Great post! I’m currently in the middle of something that I will finish on December 31, 2010. It started December 1, 2010 and will finish at the end of this month. It’s a challenge/goal that I’m currently working on. It’s WAY ahead of schedule and will be a success. So the year’s not over yet

2011…My goal/promise to myself, my wife, my business partners, is to make $1 Million Dollars online in 2011. And now that I stated it here it has to be done since I’ve now committed myself to this pledge on this forum.

Every year I recap the previous year and create a "plan" for the following year. I find it motivating to create the plan and helpful to look back and see what worked and what didn't over the past year.

It's important to look forward to 2011.

It's also important to plan for this moment, and the next, and the following.

I remain present as much as I can for everything happens in the now.

The future always stands you up. Set those goals but live in the moment.

    Thanks for sharing!

Thinking about it, 2010 had been a great year for me. Achieved more than i planned and earned more than i targetted. Al though there have been mishaps, I'd say 2010 is still a lucky year for me and I hope 2011 will be too. I am so much ready for 2011 that I've been planning it for a week now and I'm still not done with the planning. I have it'll be as great as 2010.
