The Old Success Formula is OUT

I did a seminar a month ago and in the conference room there was an abundance of signs that said:

The Formula for Success is:
  1. Motivation
  2. Consistency
  3. Goal Setting
  4. Hard Work
  5. A Positive Mental Attitude

That sign fails a lot of people.

Motivation is great, if you can install internal programs to deliberately create it. Consistency is absolutely imperative, as long as you can train your mind to see the result before it happens. Goal Setting is ok, but the word "goal" has a presupposition that it may not happen. Outcome, and Result creation is the new achievement plan. Hard work is necessary, but most people can't get themselves to take action. Being psychology conscious, and having an active participation in learning and directing your own brain, moves you to action and a positive mental attitude is definitely needed. However, if you simply don't know "how" to do that, it won't just show up.

Those signs should say:
  1. Training your brain
  2. Learning the art of creating internal drive
  3. Studying effective strategies
  4. Building realities in your mind
  5. Activating your senses and training your brain daily by visualizing and actually feeling the result
  6. Using the phenomenon of forgetting to forget to quit

And more! We're getting smarter as a species, the new formula for success is becoming highly brain conscious, learning to direct yourself in ways that get you great results, and understanding your internal language patterns and how they shape your behavior! From my model of the world, this is what I think! Thanks for reading Warriors!

    Very good post Ryan.

You are spot on in your assessment that traditional (or typical) types of "success psychology" are dead. In fact, I doubt that many of them were really ever alive beyond the hype that perpetuated the illusion that they actually made any real lasting difference. One such farcical notion is that of "positive thinking" because it is almost always layered on top of "this doesn't work/isn't working".

Yes indeed, that "sign" and many like it are failing people in their droves. One thing I agree with you 110% with is the fact that people amazingly continue to not take action when that's the very thing they should be doing in order to move forward. Or they'll over analyze or procrastinate to the point of complete inertia and immobility.

Thanks for your thoughts and your post.

    Cheers,
    Russ :-)

thank you for sharing this. reading new ways to better ourselves is rewarding and comforting. i think "Learning the art of creating internal drive" is the same as finding your motivation -- the former being written in a creative way. Building realities in your mind is also the same as goal setting, it's just that the former is being more specific as to what goals to set -- realitic goals that is. Given the new list itself create hope and positive outlook for the hopefuls.

Sure! Thanks for commenting. Using different language to explain similar concepts gets your mind to work differently. Connotations are paired with "motivation," for example. To some people, "Massive Internal Drive" means something totally different. It does for me! Especially when you're talking about deliberately altering the states of consciousness you go into, to intentionally create an insatiable thirst for achievement. Thanks again for sharing! Great reply.

Great points. I particularly like the one on training your mind, because I've found that while it's very important to educate yourself by, say, reading books or watching videos, the crux of whole matter of "success" comes down to how well you can train your brain to stay on track.

So what does it mean to train your brain? We might be talking about two different things, but here's what I think: success in an area such as building a life-sustaining business out of Internet marketing or blogging is highly dependent on having an adamant head that can crush negative impulses (i.e. quitting or putting things off) on a daily basis. This is because we're not driving our train on solid, visible tracks. We know roughly where we're heading, but don't have a clear path that goes from A to Z due to the number of variables involved... writing, commenting, guest posting, connecting with readers and other bloggers, promoting products, ad positioning, ebooks, building a mailing list, et cetera et cetera. Instead, it's more like being a stubborn Norwegian viking lord who has a lucid vision in his mind that there is land (and women) somewhere yonder where the sun sets, and taking that boat.

Injecting yourself with inspiration and information is extremely valuable, but only to a point (I think). At some point you'll have gotten all the know-how needed to set sail or continue your voyage. Semi-regular inspiration injections can give a significant boost, but we should also learn to draw inspiration from within. If inspiration is something external—that is, a video clip or a blog post—the inspiration will most likely fade away sometime soon.

I've found that rather than solely depend on external sources of inspiration it's important to discover a set of strong personal perspectives as to why it would totally suck and make a part of your life miserable or humiliating if you didn't achieve your goal.

For example, if you're blogging and planning to become a full-time employee-cum-CEO of your website, how sad would it be if all the work you've put into planning, creating, maintaining, and improving your blog suddenly went down the toilet hole, and you back to your former lifestyle (if it was your goal to work toward a different lifestyle)? Or (this may sound harsh) when you go to a supermarket, take a good look at the cashier team, glued to a single location, doing eight-hour shifts day after day, month after month, year after year, only to get that same payslip with the same boring number every month, unable to be in control of their free time. Do you want to live differently?

If you have a realistic goal, there's ultimately nothing else working against you except your own capricious mind. When the Norwegians set sail to discover Iceland, they didn't know what was waiting for them—it could've been just more seawater and/or giant octopuses. Luckily we don't need to worry about that. So let's just keep our minds on a leash at all times.

This is awesome. Very well put. Definitely the ability to crush negative impulses! That's huge! That alone, if practiced daily can change people's lives! In addition, I'm really into what I call "Immersion Conditioning," where you repeat phrases (not affirmations, more like well languaged incantations), you slam dunk yourself into the realities you're moving toward, and get so emotionally associated to it that it compels you to move to action daily.

Capricious is absolutely the best way to put it when it comes to the mind! You're on it exactly, gaining and maintaining control is the foundation. Thanks for the great comment.

Ryan, This is Professoric, thinking beyond the box and bringing to limelight what works behind what we all see.

The force of life within us all is what determine where we all head no matter the road map we place before our eyes. Until our mind is actually train to recognize and stick to produce a desire, it will not lead us any where near that success.

When our mind is trained, the power within it is release t benefit us.

Ryan thanks for sharing our thought.

For me the normal goal setting methods never worked. I’d read them, begin them and then quit. It wasn’t until I lean to treat them different that I started achieving goals.

I, like you say, had to train my mind at how to look at goals. Too many times we see people set goals and never achieve them, in fact some set goals and never even start! What the subconscious has learned, especially from New Year Resolutions, is that it’s ok to set goals and never achieve them, the subconscious has a way out.

What you must do is train your subconscious to look at goals as something else, promises. Promises to yourself, your family, anyone who means something to you, and think of it as giving your word to them. That will hold you to task because you do not want to let them down.
