How Much Time Do You Spend In Silence Each Day?

5 minutes? 10 minutes? 1 hour?

I seek out anywhere from 30 minutes to 90 minutes a day. I either meditate or go on long walks in a quiet, secluded community.

Being alone with your thoughts it eye-opening. I've spotted many of my habits of self-sabotage only by pulling back.

So how much time do you spend in silence?

As much as possible, I want a 2 hour quiet time everyday. But 2 hours is too much to ask so I am settled with just an hour a day. There's so much stress in my work and much is going on with my life. My quiet time is usually spent in the spare room of our house, in my bathroom or doing the grocery alone or having coffee alone. I usually turn off my cellphone everytime I want a quality time myself.. everytime I can afford to have my ME time.

I have a 45 minute drive to and from work every day during the week, I use this time to listen to educational CDs or to meditate and reflect on what I’ve learned.

I also find this a great time to try and control my mind and its thoughts. It’s amazing at how much the mind wanders when you’re not paying attention to it. I try to control it for the first half of the trip to work in the morning. It’s truly an amazing experience.

^I can relate. I do meditate on the road when going on a long trip. i look forward to it actually. You get to reflect on the things you see and your mind wanders.. Sometimes you remember the good things in the past. You remember people.. I don't know why but i just find it relaxing and amazing. Unfortunately, going to and from work is just a 5 minute drive. So

It depends on life style & work area. At present most of my time I keep silent work. It may 1-5 hrs. Does not necessary to talk initiatively. I let other peoples to talk and listen mostly. So my words are few.

I spend most of my day in silence, (If iTunes isn't on that is)

So I'd say about 1-7 hours, depending on my mood and how long I want to work for.

I have always appreciated my alone time. I have learned and discovered many things about myself through meditation and by simply analyzing things.

I agree, too many people think that when you like to be alone that you're reclusive, but you are really just meditating or contemplating our goals and strategy.

I like my time alone. I meditate for around 45 minutes morning and night. And I quite like going to lunch alone and sitting in the park, surrounded by nature. I like good company, and that is why I often prefer my own!

It is important to connect with yourself, and the more aware you become the better company you are to other people.

I tend to work with music on almost all the time.. I think its because I produce music so things just seem natural to me with all the noise... However as I've grown up a little I've learned to appreciate the silence... While I don't have much of it I think this thread is going to make me start setting aside at least 45 min a day to just appreciate silence and process my thoughts... Thanks for this thread

    Hey Ryan,

I don't know the exact time I spend in silence.

What I can tell you is that I'm for of a quite person anyways. I'm the type of person that would rather listen then talk. I find that I learn more from listening to what other people have to say. Silence is golden and always will be you should give it a try you might just actually hear something important.

    Thanks for the tips!

    God bless,

YES! I feel the exact same way.

It's like, "I already KNOW all MY thoughts. I wanna hear yours!"

I love going to the park by myself, and I love meditating for at least 15 minutes a day. I also find exercise very meditative. Writing, too. In fact, I love going into the flow whenever I can, no matter what I'm doing!

Not near enough... I'm a recovering PTSD survivor, glad I stopped in here to "remember to remember" (quote from "The Secret")

For me, I've found I have to "get my left brain to go along with the program"

If you don't take steps to gain the trust of your analytical half, it will condemn the practice as being hokey or superstitious. I define meditation as "doing nothing... constructively"

This is great! At least 40 minutes! I break it down into two 20 minute sessions of pure nothingness! Incredible health benefits, and a great neurological exercise!

10 minutes a day of "purposeful" silence. About 5 minutes after I get up in the morning to center myself and another 5 after coming home from work to decompress. During the day I have occasional stops but it's to get my mind right after dealing with people !
