Help with Stop Smoking!

I hope this is the proper place to make this post...

This is difficult to talk about, however personal it is...

My Mother-in-law is passing.... ever so slowly... she was a smoker... That in itself is sad.... However that sadness is multiplied by the many that love her... sons, daughters, brothers. grandchildren and on and on... This is my first encounter of what has been called "The Long Goodbye"... I am deeply touched and am sad... Out of my sadness has come a call to reach out and do what I can as an Internet Marketer to share a solution to help others stop smoking to save them and their families the sadness that all of my family are experiencing...

So I ask of those reading my post that know of a stop smoking remedy that works to share it with me so I can share it with others... in the hopes of sparing others.... "The Long Goodbye"...

Once I have the remdy I will find stop smoking forums and make posts that have a link to the remedy as well as post articles of my experience with my Mother-In-Law on ezine articles in the hopes of helping others...

2011 has the potential to be a great year and I hope in the greatness of this year I can help reduce the sadness that smoking brings not only to the individual smoker to their loved ones as well...

Thanks...

Lee

    There is no remedy.

I smoked a pack a day for 14 years (all 14 years in the US Navy). I finally quit October 4th 2010. So I have been smoke free for 3 months now.

The easiest way to quit is to be forced to. Get pregnant, have a heart attack, ect.

What did it for me? Having 2 kids and now they are old enough to start seeing what I am doing. I don't want them to waste their life/money on smoking like I did.

Everyone is different though and some people will never quit. I understand the struggle and it was the hardest thing in my life I have ever done.

You know, I've been able to quit a lot of times, but I've always ended up going right back to them. I don't really care anymore, I smoke everyday, but I was able to lower my intake from 12 to 1 a day. I smoke 1-2 a day now, and I'm ok with it.. Anyone who has truly smoked for a good time, knows most of these "3 steps to quit" is a pile of BS...

As Aaron has said, something must happen.. My uncle didn't stop until he had a heart attack..

Of course everyone is different though, some people are able to quit smoking forever. Good for them!

I personally haven't found the answer yet - but I'm still working on it. I do intend to find a way to quit. Everybody says that, but everybody ain't me. I will find a way.

Haven't quite found it yet, though. When I do, I will definitely share it. I've tried the patch, Allen Carr's book (which I found to be very underwhelming despite the rave reviews), and a bunch of other stuff. No winners yet, but you don't fail until you give up.

Meditation and hypnosis are both things I'd like to try. Allen Carr used hypnosis, and then wrote a book that doesn't include it. That's one of several things that didn't add up (for me) about his approach.

I'll tell you this, though - if you are a smoker, do NOT give up. I'm 35 and, thanks to smoking, I have something wrong with my throat which I'm afraid to see a doctor about. It's not a fun feeling. I worry that when I do see a doctor, the news won't be great.

Smoking is bad news. You have to keep looking for ways to escape.

My dad smoked for years and would never quit, not until his granddaughter was born. He wouldn’t quit for his own kids, but he did so for his granddaughter. He’s gone now and I miss him, he too was a long goodbye…

I asked a friend of mine who quit smoking about your question. Here's her exact email to me:

"I started smoking at the age of 11. When I quit smoking at the age of 30, I was up to a pack and a half a day.

In between ages 11-30, I tried every method possible to stop but nothing worked. No gum, no hypnosis, no pills, nothing.

It was seeing a picture of myself that someone else had taken. There was no denying it, I looked like I'd checked out of life. I was severely overweight, my eyes were sunken in, and I was a mess.

I didn't quit until I *WANTED* to. All the other times I tried to stop, it was because I felt guilty, or felt like it was the right thing to do. But I didn't *WANT* to quit smoking. I enjoyed it.

I can't explain it any other way.

I've watched friends die from cancer. That didn't stop me.
I've felt guilty for having to sit down and watch instead of playing with my kids. That didn't stop me.

I wish I could explain it better, but it wasn't until I wanted it bad enough that I was willing to move heaven and earth to keep it from happening that I made the change.

I hope this helps your friend. I wish I could offer more help."

Finally, it was looking at a picture someone else had taken of me.

This is bang on the money!!

Nearly everyone I know who gave up and more importantly never returned to smoking wanted to quit. It's when your desire to light up, goes out, when you basically get sick and tired of it. That is when teh majority of people become successfull and kick it for good.

Books like Alan Carrs are great and do work, but if your desire to smoke is greater than your desire to quit then it becomes a real up hill struggle.

To quit you need to cultivate a desire/reason to quit that is greater than your desire to smoke.

I´m not a smoker, never been, so take this as it goes...

there are two methods that have showed results apparently. I have the feeling that together can be powerful:

        EFT and aromatherapy

EFT to cope with anxiety, and aromas act directly over emotions as the processing resides in the same neighborhood of the brain

I did some research on smoking, as many psychics are actually smokers, specially those that are clairvoyant. Smoke keeps the third eye in check, It closes it.

People with a very active third eye need some control for it to avoid having ramping visions in not healthy situations (like driving)

the main issue for the health with smoke is not the tabacco in itself, but the other stuff they put in it.

it is better to go without, but don´t get confused... the conservatives in the food you buy in the supermarket are way more poisonous than real tabacco

I stopped when I was pregnant, it was easy that time because the smell would make me sick but I started 3 months after my little boy was born. I hadn't quit because I wanted too, I quit because I was pregnant.

I have quit again just over 2 years ago. I quit because all the men I worked with had recently quit smoking and I thought, if the men can do it then I (as a woman) so could I! I got patches from the doctors and went to the gym every night for the first month for at least a hour to get rid of the aggression and the need to lash out while I was in nicotine withdrawal.

I do buy herbal cigarettes from the health food shop and if I know I'm going to a smokers house I might take them so I can still enjoy one in a social setting but their nicotine free. This prevents me from every drooling over someone else having one.

I also made a promise to myself that I would never have another normal cigarette because I know it wouldn't stop at just the one!

Hope this helps in some way

Funny, I am working on a no smoking product right now. Not going to link to it here, though, of course.

I'll just say how my friend did it. He just stopped. Cold turkey. There really was no remedy for him. One major reason he quit was because he was getting married and wanted to get in shape for his wedding so working out every day and smoking just didn't go together for him, so since he had change in his life it was easy to make more than one change at a time, or give him further reason to quit.

I think the most important thing could be that you have to have personal reasons that resonate with you emotionally, to begin to make that effort. Now, after that you can quit however you like but it has to begin with your own decision. Yes, an emotional event like a loved one suffering because of smoking can do it for you, or it could just be a buildup of reasons, a new vow to get healthy in every way, getting married, etc. or you finally just decide you are ready to do it for real. It really has to be all about you and taking that first step deciding to quit.

    Hello everyone,

Thanks for your feedback... I have been distracted with obvious issues and this has been my first chance to read your many thoughtful posts... I will go back and thank you all becuase you deserve it...

For those who are struggleing to stop I think as was mentioned in a previous post you need the power of "WHY" to be able to stop... I think after that any program will work... and without the power of "WHY" no program will work... Thanks for making this clear to me so I can reach out to others and maybe save a life and reduce the pain and suffering that smoking brings to families...

I wish you all the best in 2011... Good Health... Good Profits and Lots Of Love...

PS for those still trying to stop... if you can not stop for yourself... stop for your loved ones (the power of "WHY")... It is not only a slow painfully terrible way to pass personally... the pain it brings to those you love is not fair.... stop being selfish and STOP SMOKING!!!

My sympathies Lee for your heartache. I have also been on a campaign to help ppl stop smoking tobacco with my website. It may not be a solution for all but it can be a solution for some. We all know that no matter what method s.o. tries, it takes a inner calling to fight against this evil habit.

I suggest an arsenal of methods, the best is to plan how you will attack the symptoms of quitting. You know - what will you do when the urges hit, or when you get stressed - have a plan or method that will counteract it.

There's not a single method that will work except a person's determination to make it happen so never quit quitting or trying. Best Wishes.

Yeah but did you listen to the possible side effects of using chantix? You may experience change in behavior, mood or possible suicidal thoughts. Or nausea, trouble sleeping, unusual dreams, skin reaction, could be life threatening . . . makes you think twice.

Well, I was going to save my 100th post to start up a new thread to help people, but I guess that will have to be 101, because I know of an excellent way and want to share it.

I smoked for 7 years; from about 19 onward. I thought about quitting several times, but being around co-workers and friends who smoked made it extremely difficult.

I was able to cut back, but never stop - that was until I found the book "The Easy Way to Stop SmokingThe Easy Way to Stop Smoking ".

Just take a look at that amazon page - 672 reviews and it has a solid 5 stars - that's unheard of.

I guess I'm not the only one that this book helped - I hope it helps you and many more.

PS. That's not an affiliate link - I don't know why (or how) amazon put's that silly little logo into their links

Nicotine is addictive but it's not the substance that kills you. It's those other added chemicals that really harm you, tobacco companies put in intensifiers so you receive the nicotine faster to the brain and enhance your smoking experience.

Lee, I smoked for 25 years. Finally quit 11 years ago. I tried every method then available - gum, patches, expensive and guaranteed plans. None of it worked for me so I just laid them down and quit cold turkey one day. First 40-60 days was tough but got much easier and now I rarely give it a thought. Almost every person whom I personally know who has sucessfully quit smoking has done it this way. It really does come down to desire & will power.

I'm very sorry that it is too late for your mother-in-law. She is in my prayers.

We just don't try hard enough and leave it to future when il b married or I'l have kids..

See its hard to overcome the anti-nicotine tiredness and fatigue that brain produces which compels you to smoke but once you control for a few days thinking that your life is really important to you!! You can quit it!!

Its matter of will and not addiction!!

To Everyone Trying To Quit Smoking:

You can do it! MY husband and I smoked for 10 years, our lives revolved around smoking. Smoking when we woke up, smoking with our coffee, after meals, in the car, with friends, after everything we did throughout the day. Smoking was a HUGE part of out lives.

As of TODAY it has been 1 month of no smoking, and there is no turning back for us now. We tried quitting before, and only lasted a couple days at most. But here is one major thing you have to realize when you are quitting smoking: there is no easy way to do it!! Yes, drugs may be able to help you, patches, gum etc., but it will most likely be the hardest thing you've ever done!! BUT- you can do it.

What helped us most I think, was preparing ourselves. We did a lot of research on the effects of smoking, what it was doing to our bodies, how long the nicotine would stay in our bodies, how long until we would start seeing a difference in our taste, smell, skin, hair and teeth, we researched EVERYTHING. We discussed it, talked about all the things we wanted to do with our lives, have children, have grandchildren, travel the world over again, and one day die peacefully in our sleep together at a very very old age. None of this would happen if we continued smoking.

So, after a LOT of mental preparation, we picked a very near quit date- and quit smoking!! We ate a lot of extra food, spoiled ourselves with treats we normally wouldn't consume (a candy bar or a soda). We chewed a ton of gum, and my husband became obsessed with tictacs! Even with the extra calories we were pulling- we really didn't gain any weight, besides maybe a couple lbs., but even if we did gain weight, it is well worth it for stopping smoking AND very easy to loose after the initial cravings ended (about 2-3 weeks).

There will be times, especially in the first week where you feel like you don't care if cancer kills you tomorrow, you want a damn cigarette! And that's when you will really need to use that willpower and mental preparation. The one thing that I think really pulled me through those times was not picturing myself getting sick and dying (because we normally care less about our own health and well being than others that we really love), but my husband getting sick and dying. I know it's a horrible thought- but it got me through it, because that's the absolute worst thing I could ever imagine going through.

My husband and I are now very happy NON SMOKERS. We still get cravings, especially after meals- but have focused our snippets of free time normally consumed with smoking, to more productive things. We are actually excited that we have quit smoking, and have already seen a lot of improvements in our health. It's the BEST THING WE'VE EVER DONE!

I think the most important step in starting to begin quitting smoking is that you need to decide yourself that you are going to do it, and the reasons that cause you to make this decision have to be emotional and real to you, and you alone. You know all the bad things smoking can cause but unless you look those things in the face and make them real to you and then you make that decision, and I mean really make it by declaring it to the world, then it's hard to quit. I know, there's more to it than that but that first decision or personal declaration is so important, you have to tell yourself no matter how bad it gets you want to stop for these reasons, whatever they may be, and then write them down and then write down that you will stop and then take all the steps and treatments, etc. to make it happen.

I have a better idea to quit smoking. Many people within my circle tried this and they were able to eliminate this habit very successfully. According to this, you have to use your willpower to prevent smoke. Just leave that thing immediately and yes it will show it's own side effects but it is only your willpower will overpower them. Whenever you feel your moral down then check out some pics of patients suffering from lungs cancer, mouth cancer and then surely you do not want to be seen over there and thus you will feel a bit relaxed.

I can tell you all from experience that you may smoke and think nothing about it is getting to you but you are wrong. I starting smoking at age 6 and I will be 60 this year. I know that my smoking has damaged my body and probably beyond repair. These days I can't walk a small flight of stairs without getting winded or my heart racing, can take a bail of hay out to my horse feeder without have to stop and catch my breath. I even get dizzy sometimes saddling up my horse and getting on to ride. It's a pretty bad situation when you can't do the things you enjoy. I have found though if I keep busy with my hands and my mind I don't need to smoke. I've made it a point to make smoking an annoying interferance if I stay busy doing something. I even go so far as to make projects last longer so smoking doesn't become part of what I'm doing. This is my way to be on the road to being smoke free, it may be slow but it working.

The greatest thing ive done for myself in my life is quit smoking. Its changed my life tremendously. I feel so much better and have way more energy. I wish more smokers would push past the first few days of quitting and really see what a difference it makes.

      Another Allen Carr ex-smoker here.

I've tried damn near everything - Nicotine gum, nicotine patches, Chantix, Zyban, hypnosis, scare tactics, natural cures - but it was The Easy Way to Stop SmokingThe Easy Way to Stop Smoking by Allen Carr that helped me successfully kick a 15 year pack and a half a day habit.

It becomes very tough for the smoker to stop smoking ,but not impossible. Smoking is very bad and injurious to health. There are some tips that helps you in quieting the habit of smoking :
1 Start going for walk early in the morning
    2 Eat a balance diet
3 Do Yoga and deep breathing exercise
    4 Drink more water
5 Drink 2-3 cup of tea a day.

Hi everyone, I am really astounded to read some of the responses to this problem. It seems there are so many of us who seem to have such a problem with smoking. many of you said that you have tried with no success. I recently wrote an article about this on my blog, which is a self-development blog about using self-hypnosis and subliminal audio to help you quit. The reason I say this is that addictions such as cigarettes reside deep in your sub-conscious, not in your conscious mind, which is why ordinary will-power doesn't work. You actually need to re-program yourself. Their are audios available for this very problem, which can be obtained very cheaply. Unfortunately; I can't put a link in here as I am a new user, but if you look in my sig box, there's a link to my free download page. take out the free download from the link and go to the blog and look for the article called 'Quit Smoking With Subliminals'.

I can't say that ı am a smoker, but I have had other things in my life that I have managed to change using sub-conscious methods, and given that its so inexpensive compared with therapy, it's worth a try.

    Good luck with everything

I have found the most effective method is to put yourself in a situation for several days (3 or 4) where you will not be able to get any cigarettes. I had to spend a long weekend in jail last July, that did it for me. I am not suggesting that you go to jail, the point is I wasn't able to smoke for 3 days. After you get past the first 3 days, I think its just mind over matter. Think of the good things that not smoking is doing for you- you aren't constantly being inconvenienced with having to go find a time and a place to smoke, your saving money, you don't stink, food tastes better, your smoker's hack is clearing up, etc. Don't allow yourself to think one won't hurt- it will. I've fallen into that trap, and ended up having to put myself in a situation again where I couldn't get any cigarettes. Which I did over Memorial Day weekend by going to my family's cabin in the woods. Now I really am quit!

My dad smoked for years and would never quit, not until his granddaughter was born. He wouldn't quit for his own kids, but he did so for his granddaughter. He's gone now and I miss him, he too was a long goodbye
