I LEFT...being loved and respected<Needs Enlightenment>

I would like to take this opportunity to share something about myself and see if others might see themselves facing or faced the same situation, and hopefully, impart some wisdom and draw some lesson from it.

Prior working in the corporate world for few years and now working on my way establishing a stable business online, I was a former Catholic Seminarian.

Yes brothers and sisters, I once thought of being a Catholic priest, serving the Lord and his people. I stayed in the seminary for more than 4 years to discern for my true vocation in life; but after much of the discernment, reflection, and realization, I came into the decision that religious life is not the life for me, then after, I have decided to leave the seminary.

I thought after leaving the seminary everything will just be okay, but its not the case. I knew in myself that my conscience is clear, I left the seminary for good reasons, but its not the case how people embraced me after I left and turn my back on becoming a priest.

I no longer get the same respect and love that they used to give me when I was still a seminarian. I was not expecting something great, I just need respect but they didn't give me that. All I get was nothing bad very bad experiences, hearing false stories everywhere why I left the seminary, anything that you can think of to take away your self esteem and degrade your self concept.

But WHY?

Because I am a disappointment? Do I deserve it? I don't know, tell me.

Why would people do this?

If you are in the situation, how will you take it?

Please enlighten me.

Thanks
Chris

PS: I am totally over it today. I just need to hear what you have to say to me during those times I am experiencing these events. Though sometimes it does happen still. It will truly be an enlightening moment how my fellow warriors will look into the situation.

I think, with those that were close to you, that they were disappointed in your decision because it made them feel good. Whenever someone gets disappointed in what someone else does it’s usually because somehow it was making them feel good, proud or something positive and by you walking away from it took that away from them.

I believe you have to do what makes you happy and what brings you fulfillment.

      You got it.

I just thought that with their confidence in me, way back before, they will understand me, and will be happy about my decision of leaving the seminary. I might really expecting so much from them that they didn't meet it.

Well that's what I've been doing lately, getting into things that will make me happy and fulfillment and I'm hoping that they will be happy for me as well.

      Thanks.

The question is not "why people react like this" to your decision / action

    but

"why do YOU react like this to their criticism and reactions"

Religion (as you know much better than me) is a very sensitive issue and feels extremely personal to most people. So by leaving your seminarian position you probably fell short of their expectations.

You don't have to explain reasons to anybody, those who don't respect your decision to change your life probably didn't deserve to have you as a leader figure in the first place.

I believe that nobody has to live their life to please others.

You can "serve" {the Lord | your community | other people} better by following your heart. Remember, that's how you got the seminarian position before - by following your passion and that same inspirational drive compels you to move now in a different direction.

If they gave you respect just because of your position ... they are missing the point BIG TIME ...

Give them time, step back and don't take their comments to heart - they are criticizing "the seminarian" person, not YOU.

    that's what I would do.

    be strong,

    Kaan

Great point Kaan! You're right you have to be happy with what YOU decide and want to do with YOUR life.

Thanks for this very important point you brought up!!!

That's what I do now, move forward with my life and do things that directly/indirectly serving God and his people. Its always been part of me to serve and share.

I believe, sincerely believe that taking their comments too personally will not do any good for me. Better to just move on and do things that I feel in my heart will make me happy and my God.

      Thanks.

Life is about choices! It never comes a surprise to me people will understood you for the life decision you make. But you have to understand that life is about changes, nothing last forever, and if you are firm with your decision, you should not bother too much of others' opinion!

    Be the real you!!!

    Just my 2 cents!

You are absolutely correct, Like is about choices!!!

It is just a matter of being firm on whatever decisions we make, and being firm to our decisions is simple being the real us.

      Thanks.
