Change the Way YOU Talk to Yourself

It’s been said many places that words have power, and it’s true. The words people use to talk to you have a powerful effect on how you react to what is being said to you. They have even a more powerful effect when you talk to yourself.

When you say something like “I can never remember anything” you are programming the subconscious mind to not remember anything. Try to eliminate statements like this. So instead of saying, “I forgot,” say “I just remembered”; it has a positive effect and the subconscious stores that data in a positive way.

Do not speak negatively to yourself, don’t call yourself, stupid, an idiot, clumsy, having two left feet, or anything that would be considered negative. Try to detect when you are saying things like this and then rephrase what you just said in a positive way.

This goes for what you want to achieve also. Do not say, “I want lots of money” this leaves you wanting, instead say “I attract money to me like a magnet” or better yet, “I’m attracting $1,000,000 to me with every breath I take, and it is arriving this year.”

The subconscious cannot tell the difference between what is real and what is vividly imagined, so be careful here not to focus on the negative. When you are not feeling well and you focus on that instead of getting well and feeling better, you will feel worse. You need to focus on feeling and getting better, not being sick.

There have been recorded events where a person’s eye color would change when they had a personality change, and then back when they reverted back to their normal personality. There was also a boy, suffering with multiple personalities that would normally be allergic to a particular food, but when he changed personality he was no longer allergic to that food.

This is positive proof that the mind is extremely powerful and can change the body in an instant; what we have to learn is how to discover that secret and take control of it and ourselves.

Don’t be closed minded and refuse to believe in this power, if you do you are just locking away a potential powerful resource that is available to you. Search, test and experiment on your own and discover your true inner power.

Only you can discover you, and unlock what is hiding inside. But you must take the time to read, practice and develop your potential. The power is there and you need to begin programming the mind to be the force it is capable of being and you can begin this by taking care on how you talk to yourself and the words you choose to use when you talk to yourself.

Remember, whether you believe you can or you cannot you are correct. Having doubts, disbelieves, and dismissing it away as a joke and you are just throwing away a very powerful power that is yours and available to you at all times.

thoughts, feelings, and behaviors all affect each other definitely... "talking to yourself" would probably be considered thoughts. lolol

so basically, behave differently... or simply decide to think different thoughts...

    Good thread.

Esther Hicks also said some good quotes about this:

'I want to FEEL my financial well-being'
"I like the FEELING of WELL-Being that comes from driving my ferrari'

& feel these feelings of doing these things, and enjoy!

Like they said, "The subconscious is a very powerful thing"! And Yes it is. Change the way you think for your sake.

I have discovered why GOD in the bible used to tell people to STOP doing certain things. I am talking about things like, lying, stealing, jealousies, envy, grudges, complaining, being impatient, being ungrateful, etc etc , the lot

Why he was telling us to stop these things because they will stop us to live the life we should live. A fulfilling life. our attention will be diverted to these negatives things, which in-turn waste our time, alter our biochemistry, creating various emotional states that have a major impact on our physiology.

The subconscious should be trained to work on our side. It is hard work, and humans have a tendency of thinking they know reality, they are real, but that is not true.

I am not gonna get started, but just remember, The subconscious is very powerful. Become strategic when you talk within. Choose your conversation carefully, disallow negativity. even if things seems to be bad, choose to think positively, and I am not even trying to say, you are not being real or trying to make you a lazy person, we all know it's important to take action.

Just think a certain way, don't allow emotions of negativity to rule you, refuse and choose the emotions you want in your own life. Choose the conversations you want in your mind. Don't let circumstances of negative, determine how you should think. It's just a waste of your time and energy. Thinking is energy. Right thinking brings right results in your life. Don't live in fear.

I strongly agree! You really have to watch those interal conversations, they may seem like nothing at the moment, but keep a negative internal dialog going long enough and it will have a strong negative impact later on in your life.

One those negative programs are in place it is harder to get rid of them then if you prevented them from being recorded in the first place.

I agree with what you talking about. The subconscious mind has no idea what is real or reality. We humans have to be aware of how we use our minds and thoughts. For example a patient gets told by his doctor you have 6 months to live, he or she will believe that and take that negative thought in their mind and die in 6 months. Whereas, someone who is strong willed will not take that message in, so we have be careful and know that we are powerful human beings with so much unlimited potential.

Great stuff Scort. This is right on.

A useful understanding of this whole process is to know that when you do engage in communicating to yourself in an unresourceful kind of way, it literally conditions your mind to do it more often and contributes directly to the "state" you end up in.

Learning to.. not "think positively," because that's also known as Hope and No Action, but to be accurate as to what's possible for you is the route to results.

Most people have real unresourceful internal communication patterns because deep down, they're petrified of going for it in life. As a result, they just have to get what they get.. which creates an external locus of control (the feeling that the formulation of events are controlling your outcomes). That will definitely lead to talking to yourself in a way that rapidly declines the quality of your brain function, and your life!

This is important stuff! More important than we know - Great thread man.

Great post. I tell people that negative words will only hold you back.

Words like "try" and "hope" are only excuse words that give you an out when you fail.

The only word that really matters in IM is "do"

Go do something. And finish it. Don't try or hope, or say things like "i'm never going to make this work" because you won't.

      Well said guys, Well said!

I think what we need to do now is to discuss
How We Can Have An Awareness of what we are thinking about all the times?

I am talking about getting rid of negative thoughts despite the justification of thinking that way because you are upset or hurt or betrayed.

How do you manage to stay in a positive state of mind even though outside circumstances are so ugly?

What do you guys do and what words do you use to diffuse negative thoughts?

What is it you use to stay calm at all times?

Just to add a quick quote as well:

"Often we allow ourselves to be upset by small things we should despise and forget. We lose many irreplaceable hours brooding over grievances that, in a year's time, will be forgotten by us and by everybody. No, let us devote our life to worthwhile actions and feelings, to great thoughts, real affections and enduring undertakings."

I understand what you are saying but sometimes it's really difficult to maintain that positive attitude. I posted a thread here titled "Please Help, If You Can" and it talks about how my dog Taz, who's like a kid to ME, lost his hearing and then after his appointment has his back hurt by someone at the vets that miss handled him.

When you listen to a poor little dog whine all night, even on pain pills, it's really hard to maintain that positive attitude; I tried trust me, but it was a struggle. I had to keep grabbing my mind and wrestling it to the ground and change my thoughts to those of health and wellbeing.

Many people in that thread really helped me maintain a positive attitude or come back to that positive attitude after reading their replies.

But you are correct, we must put ourselves in that positive state and remain there, it's best for us and those around us.

Oh man, It's hard to maintain a positive state of mind, under such circumstances. I am glad to know you tried hard to wrestle them negative thoughts because of outside circumstances. That is something to appreciate.

Problem is; many people don't even want to wrestle them thoughts, they want to indulge in thoughts of things never getting better but worse, etc

If we can just learn to be disciples of positive thinking, I think we will be choosing the right thing. Coz we will be able to say "this too shall come to pass" and we move on creating a positive tomorrow. After all that is where we are going!

Great thread! Most people don't realize how much of an effect words can have on the visions we have whether from others or ourselves. Positive words do place positive visions in our minds and give us even more "fuel" needed to accomplish a task or goal. Staying away from people who are always talking negative and replace them with those who are positve proves to be a big factor in those achieving success in their lives.

Tanya, another important factor in our self-talk is how we phrase it. Sometimes even when the end goal is the same, using the wrong kind of self-talk can inadvertently lead us in the wrong direction.

For example, when we're headed towards trouble in our lives, our self-talk should lead us in the direction of our objective, and not focus on the problem at hand. If we're headed for bankruptcy, we shouldn't say "I must avoid bankruptcy at all costs." It'd be far better to say "I need to make $XXXX within the next xx days." (This way you focus only on the constructive/positive aspects of your goal, and avoid dwelling on bankruptcy like in the earlier example.)

By avoiding any negative words in your self-talk (even if couched in positive terms), you avoid having your subconscious inadvertently focus on the negative aspects.

This is an easy mistake to make, but also very easy to avoid once you're aware that you shouldn't be doing it.

Essentially that little voice in your mind - you can control it.

I know first hand how powerful self-talk, self-belief and self-confidence are, its the deep story of my life, and I can honestly tell you that those 3 things I just mentioned, alone, can bring you power and success you can only imagine.

I discovered this in a most unusual way - and I would love to explain the story but it would take far too long.

(This is the story of my life! lol! It is so deeply ingrained in my head, that even though I am only 20 years old, everybody tells me I have been through more than most of them, including my partner Hakim who is in his 40's and has a background in the military - Essentially I can picture my entire life from the age of about 7 upwards, clear as day in my mind - and going through 3 years of depression a few years back gave me the time and ability to think back over everything and figure it all out)

Ah ok - I'll explain the basics:

From the age of 7-14 I excelled in everything. Every sport, every lesson at school, every subject - effortlessly.

From 14-18 I was on a downward spiral. Dropped out of school, lost my health and fitness, earned the shame of my family and friends, acted like a depressed mess.

I'm now 20, but without going into too much detail, what I figured out was this:

All of success in my early life was down to a few factors.

The first being my self-belief. It was immense. I honestly believed that I was the best - that nobody could beat me, that nobody was smarter than me, that I could do anything.
This self-belief and self-confidence was constantly being re-enforced by my own Self-Talk along with the results I was seeing in the real world.

After going through the extremes of both - confidence and depression - I can tell you from my heart that self-belief and self-talk are paramount.

When you get them, and they start to grow - you become unstoppable.

I sincerely hope this post helped someone, somehow,

Those that plan now for the future are the ones that will be successful; those that party and do not are then one's that will be looking for someone else to support them and help them when they get older, and blaming everyone else because of their own failures.

Sure you can, but 1) you must believe you can and 2) you must use the correct self talk that will move you in the correct direction.

That's not all you need to do though, thought does require action! Without action nothing happens. You get an idea; you talk yourself into a motivated state and then take action, encouraging yourself every step of the way.

What a great discussion here. Can't believe I had not visited this section of the forum in a long time. I find that when I really examine my situation, and it is not as I think I should be -- it is often because I lack specificity. I want 'success' or 'more money', which are general ideas.

Clarity of mind is so important. What exactly do you want or need?
You must determine it and fix it in your mind.

I like this quote, posted on my desk: "A goal without a plan...is just a WISH."

Definitely, clarity in your goals will make it seem more real and tangible to your subconscious, and this ultimately increases your chances of manifesting it into existence. The more detail and specificity you can provide in your goals and visualization, the better off you'll be.

Also, be sure to write them down. Place it in a location where you can constantly see it. If you have a whiteboard, use it!

If you don't say nice things about and to yourself, what can you expect others to say?

I'm amazed sometimes how people put themselves down and say bad stuff about themselves! If you cannot like you how can others?

Sometimes people see something in you that you don't see yourself.

Generally speaking though I think you're right Scortillion. I'm much better able to make people happy now that I'm more happy myself.

        Great thread, by the way.

That is true Jonathan sometimes others can see something in you that you do not, but here is something from personal experience.

I knew this woman who always talked down about herself, her life, her job and so on; I would tell her how nice she was and how good things were but she could never see it. She always was in the negative, well after awhile I couldn't take being around her, it was just too depressing.

Every time something went wrong it was her jobs fault, or this person's fault, or someone's fault but hers and nothing was ever good enough for her.

Being around this type of person really takes a toll on you, so I stopped talking to her and going near her.

So yes, it is possible that others may see something in you that you do not, but if at some point you don't see it too others will stop coming around; so in the end you must like yourself and your life or be in the process of changing it and talking positive.

How many people do you know that don't like themselves that you enjoy hanging out with? And how long will you stay in their company if they don't change?

You're right Scortillion. I much prefer the company of “positive” people.

            Quick story:

As a teenager I thought quite “negatively” about myself.

I was being bullied so I focused on playing sport. I tried everything. But, didn't think I was all that good. (As far as I can remember, I didn't do anything all that special.)

However at the end of the first year I was awarded (joint) Sport's Person Of The Year, much to the delight of my clapping parents.

I suppose my sport's teacher saw something in me that I didn't see myself. :-)

            ...

As for people who talk negatively about themselves, I suppose all we can do is show them the way and I hope that they decide to improve. I can tell you I'm much happier now that I don't have so much negative self-talk. (Something that happened naturally when I improved my self-esteem.)

Something I forgot to mention is that it works the other way too: When you improve your self-talk, you improve your self-esteem. :-)

That is true.I believe no one likes to think negative of themselves unless they allow it.They just need someone to tell them and pull them up from their negative thoughts.

That's Great! Glad to hear that.

Guess I should have said how long I stayed with this woman; I tried to help her turn her life around and look at things more positively for 4 years. It became hard to be around her and talking to her was even harder.

I strongly agree with you that seeing something special in someone is very much a plus, but at some time they have to see it too or it begins to affect you.

Thanks for sharing that story! Glad it worked out for you.

                Sure.

I know what it's like, Scortillion. I have a family member who can be quite negative (although she's more positive these days) and it can be a real strain.

Cool of you to have stood by her. And I appreciate the kind words. :-)

                Cheers.

It is important to think positive towards yourself and never give yourself a chance to criticize or think low about yourself. You are a winner to be on this world.

Scortillion, I think these things in a different way. Whenever I feel myself worried or in puzzled then I get in front of mirror and look into my eyes deeply (yes it is really very-2 to dare this) and ask out about my problems from myself and they got vanished in a very magically. All just you need to dare to look into your eyes in mirror image. Try this at least once.

Great post James, I love it! Why do I get the impression that I read that somewhere?... oh I guess it must be in one of Joseph Murphy's book.

Anyway, great post about the Power of the subconscious mind.

Who is Joseph Murphy? Is he any good? I like reading new points of views. Some times I read a book and only get one page worth of valuable information, but that makes it worth reading the book

Thanks for commenting! Always enjoy seeing what others think, never know where you many find that diamond of information

The thing is that 99.9% of the population on this earth dont have a clue on how the subconscious works. Yes, they know what it is its function but they don know how it works which is the part that is important.

So the subconscious works based on questions. So therefore this is where this saying comes along:

The quality of your life is based on the quality of the questions you ask to yourself.

So people always are in complaint mode and always asking the victim questions like.

"Why does this happens to me?" Guess what you are going to get?

    But if instead you say.
