Tim Ferriss' The 4-Hour Workweek

Hello fellow Warriors!

We're entering the 3rd week of 2011. How are things coming along for you?

I just finished reading Tim Ferriss' The 4-Hour Workweek. Despite having a digital copy of the book, I *just had* to buy the printed book. So far, I'm satisfied with what I've read. My questions are:
  1. Have you read the book?
  2. How far in applying the ideas and principles are you?
  3. How are your actions improving your current situation?

If you haven't read the book, I highly recommend that you do - especially those of us trying to generated automated income online.

Looking forward to reading your reply. Thanks a lot in advanced.

Funny enough i've started reading this today =]

I'm only just over 60 pages in, i'm going to continue reading this later, but already
i can clearly see a set pattern, hard work first, relax second, period. no shortcut.

Its an interesting read, I have the digital copy, i think i'll be spending the day
reading it, may get something i can apply out of it.

Thanks for the reply, UnsungHero. I must confess that I see many patterns Ferriss is proposing that's similar to Brian Tracy's. While he denounces popular time management, his methods are similar to what Tracy proposes in the latter's work in the field.

Both authors make a reference to Drucker. It seems I must investigate and learn more about who Peter Drucker is.

On my end, I'm trying to merge Ferriss' work with Rhonda Byrne's The Secret. So, I need to finish the book - which is a Christmas present from my brother - and the DVD. :-)

For Warriors who have read and tried the methods or has merged Ferriss with some form of law of attraction method (whether The Secret, Tony Robbins etc.), how has it worked out for you?

Ahhh the law of attraction method, "The Secret" isn't really a secret, take
what you've got from the secret and type it into Google, you'll find similar
        stuff being sold everywhere.

The fact is the secret is doing it, you can sit and affirm all you want but unless
you actually get down and bite the grind and work, you won't achieve anything,
what i've found the The Secret and many other similar courses is just that
it helps to keep you motivated and confident that you can succeed through
        failures.

Well, that what i got from the Secret anyway, your experience may differ, but
thats what i personally got out of it, so combining the two (so far) i get:

        Work Hard.
        Stay Positive.
Affirm you can achieve your goals.
        Stay motivated.
        Stay confident.
        You'll achieve success.

Which is pretty much all the same information any one will tell you, I'll post
again if my views change, but i doubt they will, thats just my opinion, i'd
love to here another warriors opinons/comparison's and contrasts.

Actually, I am going to start reading this again today and maybe take action this time

Timothy is a very smart guy.He doesn't fluff at all at his book,he has brilliant ideas,he made me start thinking in a totally different way.He was the reason i even started with Internet Marketing a year ago.Everything he says can be put in use.But you have to take action, not just read the book.

If I were teaching a course in entrepreneurship, the 4 HWW would definitely be one of the text books.

Real life results: I now outsource and get so much more done.

Another real life result: I gave a copy of the book to my neighbor when he got laid off last year and now he has started his own freelancing business and making more with his skills than he ever did as an employee.

I'm no where near only working 4 hours a week, but, I've at least now got a road map.

Unsung, I agree with your conclusion. Mine goes along the similar line. The Secret isn't really a secret - but it does sell well under that name... ;-)

After completing the two works, I can summarise it as this:
      • Focus on what you want, think of it most of the time with feeling
      • Eliminate what is unneccessary - whether chores or perceptions towards an object
      • Delegate where possible to free up your time to do what you want to do, what excites you
      • Challenge/question your beliefs and the norms of society - there must be a better way, and you believe that there is
      • Hiccups are abound, but these should never be your focus - keep an eye on the long term goal
      • You either learn or lose (My variation of the "you either win or learn")
      • Start living life the way you want it to be, not the way you don't want it to be
      • Mind the company you keep for they shape your environment
      • Think in abundance as opposed to limitation, there are always solutions
      • Action begets results, action is driven by passion
      • It's all in the mind, a slight shift in emotion and perception can change your outlook.

      Anything I missed out?

Meg, that's wonderful! I'm planning to lend the book to a lecturer of mine who's going through some tough times at the moment. Young guy with passion and vision. Perhaps this can help him pursue his dreams further?

I need to do the 1st two steps in Ferriss' 4-step formula. Somehow I'm always stuck at D.

Tim's book is well done. He is a master at what he does. He also holds some sort of wrestling or UFC title, but not by conventional methods. He found out that if you can push or throw your opponent out of the ring (with certain rules and contexts I'm sure) you would win the match.

The book talks about how to live anywhere you please and have (mostly) The Internet do all the boring work for you and make you money.

He talks about things like: affiliate marketing, drop shippers, Virtual Assistants, etc. His book has tons of URLs to lots of different sites.

Overall, it's a good book, but he does have a radical style and it might be hard to grasp his point of view at times.

Visualise and focus on it, it shall be yours. :-) Or as Brian Tracy puts it: visualise you leaving your job and have your focus on that most of the time.

Chinese kickboxing, Brandon. Well, his reasoning appeals to me. It simply shows that if you change perspectives or beliefs, you can accomplish great things within a given so-called "rules and limitations". As a former law student, who aspires to be one again, one thing law school taught me is this: it is the duty of the law students and legal practitioners to create, add and invent colours from the black, white and grey.

I'm overwhelmed by the information he shared. But - to quote Julie Andrews - let's start at the very beginning. Need to sort out the D before I move on to his other techniques. :-)

    Nice man!

    Yes, I read the book.

I've been applying a lot of it since 2008 and it is very sound and very effective.

I have improved rapidly in the area of fear. Defining fears was huge for me. Culturally, we get so petrified of things that aren't even real.. so we don't take action, or leave our jobs for something more fulfilling.

Defining the worst case scenario, and then looking around and going "that isn't so bad," is a very useful tool, especially if you want to go full time entrepreneur and you're a bit afraid to do so!

The truth is, reality is negotiable. I loved the book, I'm an active follower of Tim Ferriss, I think he truly is a genius.

the focus is not so much 4hww it is more not working for the sake of being busy ..the methods he uses are to figure out what are the most effective things he can do with his body and mind to get results fast ..

aperently he was an early investor in twitter and did sell his business before 4 hour body came out..
