Here are some examples why high numbers in something denotes success:

1)The more number of hours you put to learn and apply something the greater success it generates in terms of getting timely results.

2)The more traffic your site generates the more sales it does

3)The more dollars you've have in your bank a/c the more you feel successful

4)The more number of peoples following you the more you feel famous

5)etc,

The question is how many hours it needs to become successful in something?

(many spent literally on an average 16 years of education in most of the countries multiplies 6 hours of study a day = 35040 hours less 10512 (30% of 35040 for holidays/offs) = 24528 hours of studies just to do an average white collar job that earns him a living.)

by the same token

Exactly speaking - how many hours it needs to become successful in internet marketing?

    Hey tk226,

Very good post. 1 through 5 are all valid in my opinion.

The beautiful thing about what we do as internet marketers or potentially entrepreneurs is that our income multiplies exponentially while at a "normal" 9-5 usually goes up what, 3% a year? and there is cap after you put in some years?

And I believe that if we spent the fraction of the time truly working diligently on our businesses like successful college graduates do on studying for tests and such, we'll reach success and the income we desire pretty quickly.

All my opinion, but good post.

One of my mentors taught me the principled of 'Power Hours' and I now do four Power Hours a day, Mon-Sat.

I work in one hour blocks - without any distraction! Home office door closed, skype and email closed down etc etc.

I work 45minutes, then move right out off my home office for the last 15 for a break, drink or whatever.

And I move on the the next hour.

I get a HUGE amount done in those 4 hours, which gains me the personal freedom I set out for when I came online 5 years ago.

      Try it!

Time spent is important but its more about quality time spent. Thats why i work to a weekly plan of what needs to get done. The idea of Power Hours is great and something I'm going to try now. Great idea thanks

I think it was Malcolm Gladwell that wrote about how it takes 10,000 hours of practive to become an expert at something.

Assuming you're working at IM full time (40 hours per week) it will take you five years to really become an expert.

There are too many variables to measure it accuratly. For one, the word "successful" is relevant to the individual. It means different things to different people.

    Here are some other variables:
    1. What type of market you're in and how competitive it is.
    2. Your level of experience/education starting out.
    3. The amount of capital you're working with
    4. Whether or not you're working alone or with others
    5. Whether or not you're starting with an existing business or starting from scratch.
    6. Your age and/or level of health
    7. Your other commitments (partner/children)

There are numerous other determiners, not to mention what Allan was talking about. How many of those hours are very effective as opposed to moderately effective.

I know this didn't answer your question but maybe it shed some light about how to approach it. - Good luck!
