The Self Directed Human - Learned Motivation

These two words:

Motivation and inspiration

Urk me. Why? Because they're primitive ways of explaining internal drive or being in spirit.

As we evolve as a species, we get smarter.

There isn't a secret to success, and if there was one, it would be to learn how to direct your own mind.

It would be to practice motivating yourself. I mean, sit down for 30 minutes, fire up your brain however you can do it and get yourself JACKED and ready to crank out some work.

It would be learning to inspire yourself by cultivating definitive methods by which to do so. Firing off certain mental images, going and reading about other people who have succeeded in the area you wish to succeed in and understanding that YOU must create all of these feelings within yourself.

Become "internally adept," and you'll become "externally effective." Not that I'm captain brilliant, but hey, this isn't philosophy, it's fact.

You're either mind conscious, or life sucks for you. Get mind conscious, start learning motivation, know that YOU create it in your nervous system and start becoming competent at inducing that feeling, even when you're not seeing results.

That is what separates (one of the things) the winners from losers, the have's from the have not's and the people who seem to know what the hell they're doing, and the people who... DON'T!

Thanks for reading folks!

Well its true that there is no formula for success....the only thing is if we have the drive to do something and try to do it we can become successful...but we are not successful always, we only learn to do things right.

i find motivation to be a delicate thing.. it is much easier to burst a full head of motivated steam then build it. I think where motivation fits into the secret of success. Is not to not to require motivation to take actions. But to take required action that produce motivation.

but i am no expert either. i think i am the second least motivated person in the world .

Actually there is a formula for success. In Napoleon Hill's "Laws of Success" he describe the 16 principles that a person needs to master to become truly successful...

    Hey Ryan,

    Thanks for the inspirational post!

You are right on point. The strongest form of motivation is inner motivation. A person with strong inner motivation is bound to succeed. See, many people today are motivated by only outside forces money, fame, power, etc. The motivation you get from that is much less than doing something because say for instance it makes you happy!

A person that does something because it makes him/her happy usually end up making ten fold in the long run.

    Thanks again!

    God bless,
    William Veasley

    Awesome post, Ryan.

What's sad is that self-motivation is much like self-discipline for most folks.

    Wow Ryan,

that was so inspirational. It made me look into the depths of my being. Something all of us don't do often enough.

Now all I have to do is work out what the next step is!

Wow, what a great thread Some of guys are already masters at tapping into the inner "software" of motivation, it seems. I LOVE this stuff---and it's amazing how few people in our lives are willing to treat ideas like this as a real currency to invest time, reflection, experiments in.

I remember reading Tony Robbins talking about how there are people who are driven to move TOWARD something and others that move AWAY from things. I take it that the folks on this thread are "moving toward" ever greater things---learning more about themselves in a positive feedback loop.

        That's what I wanna do

Awesome reply! Like the term, 'inner software,' awesome!

You're right.. he was referring to metaprograms (neuro linguistic programming), filters by which people process information and make decisions.

          TR is the man!

          Great reply.

Let me add that Motivation coming naturally is 1000 times better than "trying" to become motivated with Napoleon Hill books etc...!

I'm not putting down his teachings, but let it be known that Motivation can come naturally!

Do something that excites you and motivation will come to you naturally quite simply and in a Big way!

Great point Bernard! When it does, that's a great thing! Naturally, in this context means it fires off the neurotransmitters and brain circuitry of motivation automatically.

Seeking out this "conditioned motivation" is great.. and it's awesome if it just shows up. But as we all know, sometimes you have to go out there and make it happen. Being adept in the area of creating motivation, now that has power.

Thanks for commenting friend! Glad you didn't put down NH's teachings, he may come out from the grave with another book to prove his point! LOL!

Mr. Critchett, excellent choice of topic and a great post.

    I'm thinking "feedback loop".

You have a little bit of motivation. You can use it in "the right way" or in a wrong way. The wrong way will leave you with the same motivation or less. The right way will feed more motivation right back to you.

Imagine living in a state of never ending drive, passionate about everything you do and everyone you meet.

By choosing the right actions to take, the "right way" that gives more motivation back than it takes...

    Simplified example:

    BAD
You wake up tired in the morning. You get up late. You don't bother to make breakfast. You sleep your way through the day at work. You go home and watch TV and fall asleep. Life sucks! (If that's the kind of life you actually enjoy, congrats, I'm not judging anyone.)

    GOOD
You wake up tired in the morning. So, you take a short walk or get a cup of coffee on the balcony, inhaling the fresh morning air and says to your self "today I'm gonna rock the world". Ok... now that puts you in an entirely different mood. You grab a breakfast at your favorite cafe, you arrive at work and spread your positive energy, people laughing at your jokes and showing their appreciation. More positive feedback, feeding your motivation. You impress everyone at the team meeting with your creative ideas. You get a dinner with that nice person you met the other day. Sweet dreams.

Point: It all started with one, just one, very small change in the feedback loop.

And here is the best part. Small changes are easy to implement.

Mr. Darwin, Thanks friend! I like your explanation of deciding what to do with even a bit of motivation.. definitely eye opening. This offers a great perspective and you make a very precise point with both the feedback loop and the TINY CHANGE! Nice.

      This is right on!
