Do you feel the need to be right?

At times I feel the need to be right.

With practice I release on this quality that destroys my chances of becoming successful.

Do you feel the same need at times?

How do you release the poison?

You release the poison by remembering that you're the only one living your reality and that other people's opinions are just that, opinions...

I love this topic Ryan... good call.

I have made a practice of being okay with being right "in my own mind". So when I'm dealing with someone who has a different opinion, I will often just agree with them or say something like "I can definitely see that side of it" and I basically remove all resistance. No argument can exist at that point.

Some people may say I'm not defending my opinion and I'm shying away from conflict.... so be it. I would rather invest my time focusing on AND working towards my own goals!

    LOL, Jonathan!

There's no doubt that I feel I am right on certain issues and ideas, but I don't have to be right.

If the other person wants to be wrong, I've got no problem with it.

Great post RB, I talked about something similar in a post a few weeks ago http://www.warriorforum.com/mind-war...Ilefhq4w40wpNs

It's easy to get caught up in it though, you have to catch yourself and then realize that what you are trying to do is force your belief structure on someone else. You don’t like it when it’s done to you so you have to stop, take a deep breath, and step back, saying it’s ok to disagree.

Then drop it! If they persist to push the matter just tell them there is nothing they can say to change your mind and you think it’s a good time to change the subject. If they refuse to change the subject then it’s time to walk away.

definitely, i can feel this way. i think the best thing to do is to become merely aware of this, since once you are aware is when you have a choice around it, and so that you can see it for the silliness that it is.

I would agree with you but then we would both be wrong... LOL HA HA

I was only wrong once... the time I thought I was wrong but I was right!

Actualy... being a know it all and thinking we are right all the time is damaging... you are right.

I do like to use the above statements some times just to mess with someone if I know they can take it.:p

    Hey Ryan,

    Thanks for the awesome thread!

I always feel the need to be right also, I think that is a common trait in most people. It feels good being right and feels bad being wrong therefor you always want to be right. In my opinion its benficial for you to be wrong too, because you learn something you didnt.

If always think your right you will never learn when you aren't. I think its best to always try to keep and open mind and really hear people out. If you are wrong you need to accept it and learn from your mistakes, then next time maybe you won't be wrong!

    Thanks Again!

    God bless,

I think everyone has this "urge" but it's one that needs to be tempered with logic and rational thought ..

We can't always be right all the time & I've always found that by demanding I be right, I often lose valuable information being inputted by those I'm trying to over power

I prefer to be happy than being right. I have noticed sometimes everyone is right and sometimes everyone is wrong. people are just viewing things from different perspective and there is never two similar perspectives. This is further distorted by our previous experiences. It is like the truth, everyone has one.
