Internet Marketing works? Hardly

I've been trying to find ways to come up with a viable way of actually making money online, but it seems impossible. Ive analyzed the CPA route, blogging, PPC and SEO methods but when I actually go over how to piece it together it just doesnt add up. These so called gurus are obviously doing something that they do not want you to know, thats why I never buy into there products. I mean honestly If you had a way to make $10,000.00/Month from one single website that you can easily duplicate 100x over, then why would you broadcast that type of info?? Do you really think someone or some company is going to show you there marketing strategy? Hell no. I honestly believe if you do not know the right people in this industry then there is no way your going to be pulling in 100s of thousands per year by yourself with just a laptop and a internet connection. That statement alone makes more sense then trying to building a webpage to promote several clickbank products. Please feel free to share your thoughts or experiences.

As I always tell people new to IM. Your word right now is persevere. Way too many people give up after facing their first few obstacles. When I first started out, I made close to 0 dollars in my first 3 months.

To be honest, I was on the verge of giving up as well. But something deep down in me told me to persevere. So I went on my daily routines and read and learned more about IM. The next few months I started to see my work paying off! Sometimes results do not come instantly. And way too many people give up when they were just about to reach the tipping point.

And to answer your question, no you do not need to know any influential people in the industry. Of course it would be plus if you knew them. But you will still make it if you persevere and work hard towards your dreams. I hope this helped good luck

This is the first place where you are going wrong. You have dipped your finger into a little bit of everything that comes along and offers your riches. You don't really have any focus.

You want to know the guru's secret? They focus on and master one thing at a time. They provide value and teach their subject better than anyone else.

When I think of a guru's name, I associate it with 1-2 things at the most, whether that be launching products, PPC, creating software, or blogging. I can't name a guru that does it all and teaches it all.

I'd suggest finding a little clarity on what you want to do.

First, find a niche. Second, find or create a product. Third, create a page that provides value or converts visitors. Fourth, get really good at one source of traffic.

Jumping from one shiny object to the next will get you no where but broke.

I honestly believe if you do not know the right people in this industry then there is no way your going to be pulling in 100s of thousands per year by yourself with just a laptop and a internet connection. Successful people attract successful people. If you create a quality product or become really good at one source of traffic, then naturally your success will get the attention of other successful people.

A good example of this is Brendon Burchard, who was an unknown in the IM niche just a year or so ago. He created a quality product, created a great converting offer, gives great value to his customers and is now considered in the "guru circle".

He didn't wait around for someone to give him an easy method. He worked hard and created something that got other's attentions.

I recommend for you, and for anyone struggling to make money, to first discover what you want/need as far as expenses and lifestyle go, then break that down into a daily amount.

Then figure out how much of a certain product you have to sell each day to reach that goal.

Then master one traffic source until you get to that point. One. Just master one.

    I wish you the best.

I think most people fall under the impression that we are in a get rich quick business.

Far from it...you need to invest time and effort into education and then devote even more time into putting that knowledge to smart use. I agree that for traffic it makes sense to focus on getting really good at one or two areas. You're spreading yourself too thin otherwise.

That being said, there are way too many marketers getting rich by dangling the carrot in front of other potential marketers. There are too few people around who are genuinely interested in teaching and seeing their students succeed because they realize that we are all in this together and the pie is big enough.

I personally have had great experiences learning from Chris Farrell and it's no coincidence that his site is #1 on IMReportCard.

Gosh, that sounds balanced. Thanks for your words - I was getting a bit concerned over the 'carny' attitude I've seen many exhibit, and this helps me want to proceed towards investing the effort and making honest money rather than toss the whole idea as greed-feeding. Seriously- for a noob worried about the ethics of some of the offers I've received, this really helped.

Exactly how long have you been at this? Have you only done analysis or have you built a web site and tracked results in some way.
You raise a good point, however, which has been said on other posts, I am sure. How does it make sense for somebody who is making $$$ per hour to sell his/her secret for $27? For the most part, I agree with you, but you can identify the hype people exactly that way.

I have been researching one method that I was currently working on which is seo and keyword researching for but I just cant put the pieces together. The road block I am having is being able to provide valuable content, because I'm not in the business of selling crap that doesn't work, thats just bad karma. And honestly Its not just about the money, I have money, I just have a strong passion for IM, I like how it works and I get my thrill from finding something that works and duplicating it.

        Then don't do those topics?

Do something you love and feel passionate about. The sales will come in all by themselves if you stop worrying about the money and sales factor, and start worrying about the passion.

There is no such thing as success without failure. You will fail, I have failed, and everyone on this forum who is now CRUSHING it has failed at some point or another. But if you keep at it, find something that makes sense to you, and take MASSIVE action, you will be successful!

There are systems being sold on this forum, that if you take massive action, there is no way for you not to make serious money. But the problem is, most people buy WSO's, but take little if any action on the information presented. That's the only difference between these people, and the ones who are CRUSHING it right now. Action is the only way we can make things change for the better. Connecting the dots is easy once you have done that.

            You will get there!

traffic converts into sales so, it really matters to get some good number of targeted hits daily for your sales page, this is where seo comes into picture, if you are only getting a decent number of hits then you can't dream of making a website as your full time business, you have to try hard and then it pays off

Couldn't disagree more. I don't know any big shots, and I work from a computer and an internet connection from my house. Although I outsource and hire contractors now, it wasn't always that way. I had to learn the ropes and go through the ups and downs just like any other business person from Bill Gates to Donald Trump.

And I also bought a ton of e-books, books and courses when I first got started, in fact I still do today. Why? Because from each book I learn something new and what I learn I can take and turn into some serious cash. Instead of looking at it in a negative point of view, you should look at it in terms of risk vs. reward. $27 dollars is not a huge risk to pay to learn something new and if you don't learn anything, it only cost you $27.

If you need help, I'll help you out for free. The thing to remember is Internet Marketing is a skill that has to be developed just like anything else and it's not going to happen overnight. SEO, PPC, or PPV are all different things that each require different types of knowledge. And it will take time to learn each different way.

All of you guys are right, and i know this stuff will not come over night, Hell I don't care if it even takes 6 months for it kick in. I just want to find a method that actually make sense before I actually take action. I just have a couple pieces missing at the moment. For example KW research, I wouldn't know what a profitable KW even looks like. Sure I can drill down to long tail keywords but then what? How do I make a blog post that actually makes sense based around that keyword?

One cannot know all the answers before actually implementing something. You see, you've got yourself in quite a quandary here. I'm almost certain that you want to learn and know everything so that when you implement a technique, you get it right the very first time.

Unfortunately, no one does. You just have to accept that implementation is part of the learning process. You'll never be able to truly learn something without implementing first, and this is what keeps so many newbies terrified of doing anything in IM. It's alright to make mistakes, and it's alright to fail while implementing something new. What's not alright is quitting before you succeed.

You have to make the effort to fill in the blanks while implementing something. Think of it like riding a bicycle, you'll probably fall a few times, and scrape your knees and elbows in the process. But as long as you get back on the bicycle and learn from your mistakes, you'll eventually make it.

IM is just like that. Failure is a natural part of the learning process, so don't think that you're going to get it right the first time. This is probably why so few newbies actually make it in IM - they're terrified of failure. You have to overcome this, and accept the fact that it is part of the journey towards succeeding in IM.

Many years ago, I ventured into options trading the market. Now I'm repeating the same process in the IM world. I find there are a lot of similarities. At that time, I was trying to copy/adopt those options trading gurus formula/methods. I tried so many but without success. In the end I realised that the methods that they use may or may not suit me, therefore, I have to find my own path or methods to tackle the same market. Once I started doing that I started to make money. There were quite a frew trials and error but I finally find my own formula. I kind of picked the methods that was already out and tweak it to suit me. This is the same with what I'm doing now with IM. I bought those gururs formulas but I don't follow them blindly. I use what I need and what suits me. Its a long winded story but the essence is you got to find your own path without recreating the wheels.

Hehe this guys sharper than most people ^^ the truth is most people are aware on some level that if you have a piece of software that you push a button and then magically you make a million dollars, chances are your not going to tell a living soul about it...

much less sell it for $39.95.

And the general public does realize that theres something a little odd that they havent heard success stories about it if its so effective... but people block that out intentionally.

People are doing what they want to do and what they are really buying is a warm fuzzy feeling of hope. Now that said you can basically just do the same things they do and make money, sell hope as well instead of actual opportunities (most people dont really care if they make money as long as they get to have that feeling). But personally i cant do it, it conflicts with my ethics.

Your a smart guy though, keep using that brain of yours, itll take you very far, to the real money. My suggestion is stop listening to Gurus from Mount Olympus and look at the most successful companies in the world - find out whos running them and whos doing their marketing, then learn that.

Youll find they teach extremely different things in a $20 book written by a guy whos sold billions than the crap spewed for $2000 by a guy whos made a million once and now is trying to make it again selling his bull**** secrets

The other day I was looking up a list of people who had failed for years before they succeeded.

Some of the most well known, famous, and influential people failed at everything in life for years or even decades before anything worked for them.

Abraham Lincoln failed at pretty much everything he did until he became president and once wrote (before he got elected) that he thought he was "the most miserable person alive."

The people in history and even in our time who achieve success are narrow minded and focused on their goal. They are willing to fail for years. They are willing to be laughed at.

They would rather lose everything they owned than give up on their dream. Sometimes you have to be that stubborn, or in other's eyes... probably "stupid."

Sylvester Stallone (the guy who played Rocky) lost his wife and everything and even ended up selling his dog (his BEST friend) just to have money for food at one point.

You may be better off doing something you are more motivated to do.

You have to be stubborn to succeed in the path that is meaningful to you. Don't give up. The sun will rise again tomorrow. Give it another try.

doubt is why you are failing bro.

You are expecting to fail and I know that feeling. Until you get the leverage and motivation and confidence (that you expect a better future) you probably won't do the work needed to succeed.

Because you're lazy? No, because you are doubting every single little thing you do online. You expect it not to work. And you wouldn't possibly notice what is working.

    That feeling sucks.

The place to start, IMO is to focus on what you don't like in your life. Focus on what is not good enough for you. As Tony Robbins says, you have to get disgusted about what you don't like about your life.

It's not about getting depressed or comparing yourself to others. It's about comparing yourself to the you that you believe you should and could be.

From there you have to understand your body and brain and the way that they process doubts. Where do you feel doubt in your body? You have to get control over what you believe so that you can "summon" confidence whenever you need it.

Doubters do not succeed in this line or work, or pretty much any line of work.

And I know the feeling. But it's not about "what's the fastest way," "what's the quickest way" "which way works" and all that.

It's about believing in something. Having a certainty like the same certainty that the sun will rise tomorrow.

You never earn an income based on what you know and what you research. You earn an income based on the value others derive from the actions you take.

Doubt was mentioned here before, but I'll say it again. You are not getting far because you heavily doubt yourself.

If there are pieces missing from your "SEO Puzzle" you must fill it in.

I've been "researching" SEO and other aspects of Internet Marketing for about 3 years. It's just been a fun hobby in college, but I didn't actually turned up income from it until about six months ago.

So...that's two and a half years of "learning" before I actually started earning money.

Want to know one of the big secrets?

      Process.

Every business that exists today runs on processes. Many people throughout time have created means of utilizing and implementing processes. My favorite method is to write a checklist for my entire SEO strategy. I separate my strategy into smaller blocks so they are easier to manage. So, I have a checklist based on the "block" that the website needs next. Here is the order of my checklists.

First, I run through each of these checklists once to fully set up the website:

      Keyword Research
      Competition Research
      Domain & Hosting Configuration
      WordPress Configuration
      Blog Indexing

Each checklist has anywhere between 3 - 20 different actions that I take. Once all these checklists are complete, the blog should be indexed in Google within 72 hours (usually only about 3 - 8 hours). Once it's indexed, I bring out another checklist:

      Off-Page SEO

I run through this checklist once. After that, I'm usually ranking at the top for whatever keyword I want, but if not then I just repeat some of the steps to get more backlinks and better rankings.

That's it, man. You need to take this huge SEO picture (because it can be pretty huge and pretty overwhelming) and you need to break it up into smaller chunks.

There should never be a single day where you do every single task needed and then BAM! You have a profitable site. A website takes time and nurturing...just like growing a plant or conditioning your muscles and tendons.

And most of all, don't give up. Entrepreneurs are people who look at what is working and they see opportunity. They also look at problems and see opportunity. No matter how bad or good you do at something, it is an opportunity to better understand what works and what doesn't. If something doesn't work, stop doing it. If it works, do it some more.

But in the end you still need PROCESS!!!!!

Good luck, man. The race is long, but in the end its only with yourself. Don't look at the guru's and get mad thinking "They are hiding something". They are probably hiding plenty and no amount of getting upset will make them call you up with "The ultimate SEO secret of the 21st century". Their secret is probably as simple as one word: ACTION.

Go take action. Right the f*** now. Stop reading this reply and take action.

      Peace,
      Nick

I do believe in Internet Marketing - I've never made much myself, but that's my own fault. I've never really stayed focused and just kept going.

Just beware, there are A LOT of scams out there. Trust your gut on the Internet Marketing scene, learn from others and most all: put some effort and believe into it!

    Breezy-

have been looking / studying this "IM Dream" for YEARS!! and felt the same way as you-- every new and improved - shiny thing that came up on my screen distracted me and confused me even more! For me, I had great faith and trust in a lady that was experiencing success - sarah -marketing with sara--and she put me onto a guy she trusted to get some focus and coaching-- Tristan Bull-- still learning --but he has really helped with eliminating the distractions

In a few weeks/months- maybe I can share that I made a few bucks!!!

Well I never really buy into anyone who says that I'm going to "get rich quick and easy" off the internet. The internet can be a useful tool for making money if you know how to pull the strings correctly, but that takes two things: time and research.

I'm new to using the internet as a business so I'm starting off here, researching how others make money and watching for any opportunities that I can grab a hold of. I'm also part of a couple survey and offer sites, not because I expect to make any real money off of it but because I can watch how these sites and their partners make money.

If you're willing to watch, wait, and invest, the internet can be a valuable source of income. If you haven't learned the tricks of the guru's yet just do what I'm doing. Watch, Research, and Piece together everything they say till you can get it.

Yeah - the trouble is that what is really working in internet marketing isn't talked about - it's quietly being practiced. If it works, why would someone share it, unless there's a way of making money through sharing it?

I'm a noob and havent made any money. Whats so hard to understand about it? Traffic = money if you know how to convert.

Wear a clown suit and get a clown site some traffic so you can get clown gigs on weekend. Maybe a stupid example but I'm just trying to show you its real business model.

If you dont feel good about trying to sell someone how to cure itchy back then dont.

Maybe I dont have the right to comment since I havent made any money. I just see it as a real business model in which people fail all the time.

It first starts with belief in yourself. Starting out with a negative attitude and believing you'll fail before you even get started will put you in a position to attract negativity and actually prevent you from being successful.

Also, you need to add value to others first before you jump into selling them something. What interests you and what experience do you have that you could offer other people? I know everyone in IM is trying to make money but you are far more attractive to customers if you make an effort to put their needs first.

The winning combination is to start with something you feel passionate about and create a product or choose an affiliate product that you resonate with, make a plan on what IM method you'll use, focus on one source of traffic until you're good at it and always think about adding value first. If you start with good intentions, success will come back to you tenfold.

Stop analyzing and take action. Does it work? Yup. There are a lot of us on here that make 100% of our income from this.

Too many people get stuck reading up on every technique the guru's are promoting and never take action. There will always be another technique, another tip another trick.

Pick one and fully immerse yourself in it and become an expert at it. It is important to know about and be aware of some of the other techniques, but you need to be an expert at one. The first step is doing.

Will you lose money on the first time out? Yes. That's the tuition to learn this business. But as you become more experienced you will stop losing money and start making money.

If you cannot afford to lose even a few hundred on your first attempts then work a few extra shifts and save some money to get started.

yeah, I agree with you! there's no such thing as quick rich and it really takes time, effort, perseverance to see the results of what you have done. Just believe in your self and be confident that you will have a good outcome in the end.

If your approach and expectations are unrealistic/wrong, you won't get far. It's a business, not a magic wand.

You don't expect someone is relatively brand new, with an opportunistic midset, to be pulling as much as people who devote hours each day creating and exchanging valuable products and services. Do you?

Are you an opportunist? Or are you truly approaching IM as a business? If you think IM does not work, then you're indirectly implying that we're all lying. I know it's not as easy as it seems. There's hardly anything worthwhile in life that's easy.

But, many have devoted months and years...and they're reaping the results. As an example, just check www.flippa.com I'm using that as an example, because website flipping encompass most, if not all facets of IM. Or even the WSO section.

If making a lot of money is your primary motivation, you may have to rethink...The value comes first, what are you bringing to the market place?

Failing to make money now, is not due to the sector (IM)... it's a reflection of the player (you). You've got more work to do. Start small. $10,000!!

    Best wishes,

I'd suggest you join the war room ($37 for two decades!). You'd be blown away by the quality of information, available at no charge...from highly successful marketers.

Know yourself. Choose a model that resonates with you (that others are also exploring and making money from). Find quality info. Study and apply. Apply and study. Find a mentor...and watch your bank balance explode.

Forget the ''make $4,000 per week'' headlines. Yes, you can make that kind of moolah.

But, walk first. Later, you can fly.

I can work, you just have to have patience, and sometimes a little bit of trial and error before you find your groove and what works best for you
Just keep at it and never give up if it is something you really want.
