How do you apply the 80/20 Rule to your internet business?

I am sure that all of you guys are familiar with Pareto's Principle of the 80/20 Rule. Where 80% of your results come from only 20 % of certain actions.

How do you guys apply this to online marketing. What 20% of actions get you 80% of results?
Content writing
SEO
Web design
ETC.

I know this is different for everyone, since everyone does different things, but I would really like to know.

    I'm a copywriter.

Some copywriters have research teams that compile all the data... so that the copywriter only has to do the 20% of the job he's best at... selling in print.

I still haven't done that. I might at some point. Cheers for making me think about it.

I did an exercise on this last year, and it totally changed the way I did business. it really is somethign that everyone should do once or twice a year , you may find out that they 20 hours a week you spend building backlinks and sites isn't the best use of your time.

I am trying to manage a blog but have very limited budget and i am always unable to do things that i planned. I am a content writer and have to struggle a lot. Some times i think, i should have started this blog earlier in my life before a job. But now i can't do much. Any tips on saving time on doing all the different SEO tips would be really appreciated.

Outsource ALL backlinking until you really know what you are doing. Onsite optimization, you could spend weeks reading on it, or find someone who knows what they're doing to pay for 2-3 hours to evaluate your website and optimize it for the keywords you want. Time is money. Money is time.

In my personal opinion you should invest all your time and resources into SEO. Traffic gets you conversions. Content and design are important too but not as much.

I've been spending a lot of time trying to optimize my work flow lately. Pareto's principle was one of my considerations.

I started by trying to find the 20% of my actions that brought in 80% of my income.

I've also opened this up to giving special attention to the 20% of my clients that represent 80% and avoiding 20% of the tasks that waste 80% of my time. (like email)
