What mental tools do you use?

Emphasis is put on physical tools, be it a blog, an automating app, or any device you can use to grow your business but what about your mental tools?

Unless your mental tools are honed it's difficult to effectively use physical tools, for you are programmed to fail or struggle endlessly.

Do you visualize? Affirm? These are a few mental tools, feel free to add below.

How much time do you spend honing your mental tools each day?

Not nearly enough time. i should practice my mental techniques more. i usually do them before bed, but sometimes i fall asleep . I try to quiet my mind by breathing, and then visualize the best i can, visualizing what i want to happen. although sometimes i cant see anything clearly, i do my best to get the emotion/feeling to arise. Like if my gf and i had a bad argument, i will take a few minutes alone, and visualize speaking to her from the heart, and having us communicating lovingly and clearly. But sometimes its hard for me to visualize physical things, because my mind wonders. i have seen good results, but sometimes its hard for me to stay positive. im prone to worry, even if there is nothing to worry about

    It's my pleasure

Great stuff here, you are on the right track. Keep visualizing and finding that alone time, I made so much progress when I spent time with my thoughts.

    Have a great weekend!

Self-hypnosis coupled with meditation was by the most effective mental tool (if you could call it that). I used it to manipulate my mental state. For example, I could go on for seven-eight hours straight doing a single task.

I am currently practicing a few visual memory enhancement techniques. Look at an object, turn away and try to produce that object exactly as you saw it with your imagination. Slowly build a 'living area' in your mind, it does not have to be a house but it could be, and place objects and ideas in there. I started with a single empty white room, now it has it's walls painted and a few objects with ideas in them. There are many exercises that build up short term memory.

We store EVERYTHING we see in our short term visual memory for ~.2 seconds, then we dump it . Hearing is about 3 seconds.

      Hi Ryan,

First thing in the morning, before i get up from bed, i try to put all i will be doing for the day into perspective and try to see the results in my mind.

This brings forte the vigor that is needed to tackle the day's activities.

Then after the day, it is time to take stock of what happened during the day and re-focus for the next day.

Doing this helps me to save time and organize my activities.

      All the best,
      Devid

In the evenings I often lie in my bed and try to think about what I want to accomplish in my life. I'm 20 years young yet and have big aims in my life. This is what really encourages me to work hard and give my best to achieve what I want to achieve.

Of course sometimes I don't focus on that... somehow... that results in being lazy..

That's my big question.. How to not be lazy anymore.. I'm still trying to figure out how to concentrate on the important things but I have to admit, somehow it's hard sometimes...

    Good feedback guys.

@dapwalvekar I mean how to strengthen your mind, when using the phrase "mental tools."

@echaz At 20, you are on the right path. Make your routine a habit. Most great people did what you're doing. At the end of the day they go into deep introspection, thinking their day through and how they could improve it.

I know you said mental tools not physical. But, the mental tool that I use is physical. I can't keep all the info in my head clear. I use the freemind mind mapping tool now but I was taught mind mapping years ago when we put it on paper. It helps me really clarify my thought patterns, see information that I am missing and missing or incomplete steps in processes I am using. The visualization doesn't work for me until after I do this. I can relax after this. Like a deep cleansing breath.

I was about to write a very similar reply when I read yours!

Agreed. It is the same for me. My most powerful mental tools (other than my amazing super psychic powers and heat vision although that is probably physical I guess so does not count) are getting the ideas down on paper or into a database. Mapping out the goals. Planning the journey. Breaking this down into specific objectives. And then just working on it.

Each week I review what I have done and I look at each thing that worked out very well and note that I should do more of that. More importantly, I note what did not work so well and I think of how I could have done that part differently. Make a note accordingly for the future.

The mind is great for the ideas. Visualization is powerful for building laser focus and even a degree of experience (check out the basketball visualization tests done by the universities). In the end, getting things out of our heads and bringing them into the physical world... on a piece of paper or even on the computer (maybe not truly physical but still...) is very very important.

my biggest mental tool would be relaxation and giving mind a break for a bit or as long as I can. The most difficult mental exercise would be to stop the thought traffic.

    Great stuff guys.

Action is important, but until you get your mind right you engage in tons of uneffective acts. The more time spent on honing your mental tools the less trial and error in the physical world. At least from my experience.

I'll churn out a smashing blog post - after meditating - in 5 minutes. No real effort there, because I align myself and at that point, I'm not even doing the work anymore. I'm just a vessel.

    Thanks for all the feedback!

When I first wake up I allow my mind to think through whatever happens to be on my mind at that time just to let things clear. May sound weird, but it clears my mind.

Then I starting thinking about what needs to be done that day, then I get up and starting journaling and writing lists (as I mentioned on another thread).

It all starts first thing with thoughts, then plans, then action.

That system has worked for me for many years.

The greatest mental tool I use is my own brain
Then, I use reverse engineering coupled with mindmapping to make a plan. Then I just follow the plan. Seeing the mind map always helping me to avoid distractions.

I use meditation and EFT both of which are really good. I also use Theta, which is a great technique using muscle testing for releasing beliefs that stand in your way and replacing them with positive beliefs.

I also find that having a sense of gratitude for so many things that happen in my life, both large and small, keep me positive and confident. Today I am grateful that, as a newbie, I learned how to move a domain name from goDaddy to Hostgator. I did the first one sort of by accident and the next one I actually knew what I was doing. A new skill learned. When I started this stuff 18 months ago I couldn't even copy and paste so obviously I can find even the littlest things to be grateful for.

    Cheers

I've seen the recurring theme of gratitude, great mention.

Gratitude is your conduit to good. Be grateful for all things and you will have many more good things to be grateful for. You become a magnet to good.

    Thanks for sharing!

that's not a particular tool but i cannot help sharing.

From early age, when I am told that i cannot achieve smth or do, I am kind of outraged and feel rebellious. That gives me extreme level of unshaken confidence in myself. And I do achieve the set goals. So, if absolutely everybody is sure that smth is not meant for me, I do get it and the most unexpectedly with ease!

I don't know where that confidence come from. And I cannot get myself in that assured state of mind on my own. I need those people doubting my abilities. )))

    Bless those who doubt us!
