Is your idea of sacrifice screwed up?

I see many bemoan sacrifice, focusing on all the things they are giving up.

What about the things - or states of mind - you are moving into.

Wherever your attention and energy goes, grows. Think of this quote:

"Sacrifice is releasing something of a lower nature to make room for something of a high nature." ~ Leland Val Van de Wall

Keep thinking Big Picture and sacrifice is the best deal around. You're shedding someone you've outgrown to make room for something that you really want.

Your thoughts?

People wrongly think that sacrifice is only related to material things. I agree, sacrifice is necessary to make room for what's coming.

I think that when you are sacrificing something is when you give up things of "lower value" at the current moment, so that things that really matter to you blossom

what's the difference between sacrifice and throwing out?
I guess, it's in the perceived value of the sacrificed thing.
What you're saying looks more like throwing out. Like "get rid of less important to get more important".
What about a parent who sacrifices his/her life for a child? you can hardly call it a "getting rid of less important".
The bottom line... Sacrifice is just a word.

      Interesting take Alex.

The same idea seems to apply: releasing something of a lower nature to make room for something of a higher nature. If you are in love with whatever you are sacrificing for, whatever you give up is not that big a deal. And I don't use the word "love" lightly here, I mean being in absolute harmony with it.

The key is to fall in love with the object of your higher nature; then sacrifice is effortless.

sacrifice is the key...no pain no gain.

Comfort is the stagnation of progress!

Yep. You're right. Without a deep affection to the thing/state we're getting we can't dive up anything to get it.
But there's a problem I see with the word sacrifice. I think, it's a trap-word. It's to general, to abstract. Too emotional.
I'd prefer the word change. You can change the good for the better. And... guess what, you don't feel like sacrificing. You feel like gaining something new and better.
