I like to take a 5-10 minute break on the hour, every hour during my workday.

Pulling back allows me to observe how I'm feeling, and since feelings lead to actions this is a critical task.

How many breaks do you take? For how long?

  • When I'm in front of my PC, I forget about all my tiredness and even closing my eyes. But sometimes take a tea break for 10 minutes and listen music for relaxation as I'm going to do now.

It depends. If I'm having trouble focusing I reward myself with frequent breaks. For example, for a task I really don't want to do I may take a 3 minute break every 7 minutes just to get started. If I didn't know I only had to work for 7 minutes, I may never get started

But soon, even for the most annoying tasks, the breaks become more annoying than the task and I'll just keep working until my brain tells me to take a breather.

    Cheers,

If I'm really on a roll I might work through a break or 2. In general I like to stick to the hourly thing. I think it comes down to when you just know you have to pull back, however long the period of time between breaks doesn't matter as much as how you feel.

    Thanks for sharing!

I always take a break after working 2-3 hours. I go out drink a coffee and smoke a cigarette.. That helps very much to sort all my thoughts and think about what's coming the next 2-3 hours

    Good feedback all.

Finding the right flow from day to day works best. Some days I might break after a half hour if I'm feeling uber-anxious.
