Skills To Pay The Bills

In every profession, certain skills are performed and some require warming up to get the muscles ready for strenuous activity.

For example, athletes like baseball players take batting practice. Basketball players do shoot arounds and football players run routes.

What do you do to warm up your skills each day before tackling your work. Or do you?

For example, I write a lot. So, to warm up my writing skills, I'll usually take a book I like and copy it for about 10 minutes. Not only does this help to ward off the dreaded writers block, but it also helps wake my brain cells up.

What do you do to warm up your skills (that pay the bills) each day?

With writing, I review an article, page or post that is nearly ready to be published.

As I do so, invariably, other topics or tasks come to mind. To maintain focus, I note these in a notepad window, forget them and continue on.

Once I've completed one or two artcles, etc. I proceed to the first new task of the day.

My warm up in the morning consists of a good cup of coffee while answering a couple hundred e-mails, and then get on to promoting my web sites and teaching IM online, and in the evening, answering folks on WF and other forums who need a guiding light.
