What are you trying to achieve?

You know, it feels like every day I find people who are like "I want to make $100k tomorrow" and of course, there are plenty of people ready to sell that dream to them...

But I wonder, why don't people come up with sensible goals, things that they are really striving to achieve, why don't people build a business plan ahead, and maybe then they could meet that challenge.

Warriors; if your struggling to earn money online, plan out your game plan.. Have something set up, and make financial goals. With every goal, make there be some sort of reward.. Then you will reach your dreams.

That's my tip for tonight, I hope it helps someone.

Caleb

Hi Caleb. That's great.Setting goals and a game plan is the first stage. I think the hardest bit is then implementing the plan and reviewing it regularly.
It is one thing to plan and get it all good on paper, and another to actually get it working for you.

Like I say, make simple goals, but always keep the big picture in mind.
You surely can make 100k, but if you set your goals to 1k, then 5k and so on, you'll keep things more real and the goal will be achieved easily.

Thanks for posting this good word for us - this is just where I am tonight. Getting ready to write down a business plan which I have never done before.

Thank you for these tips and for the confirmation that I need to sit down and get this task done before I move ahead.

I'm trying to help 1 million people to make their lives better.
I'm going to measure that by how many people read my articles, watched my videos, bought my products.
I'm going to achieve that by, first of all, creating good content: both free and as part of products.
The time frame is 1 to 5 years. I know it's vague, but I realize that there's no real way to predict the future.
I know that I can do it because I believe in my abilities and the belief is based on the feedback. I also believe that I can do it because I believe in the power of collaboration.
It's my own goal and I've created it myself. So, noone can do that for me and noone is able to do it my way.

Also, I don't really care about money. They are not the measure of my success.

i think thats very wise. i used to write plays/scripts and you have set that out in a similar way, like a map almost, then fill in the rest when it comes to you.
with regards to IM, my goal isn't to make 100k in one day (nice as that would be!) but just to be able to afford a second car so me and my husband don't have to squabble about who gets to have it the next day! oh yeah, and paying the mortgage, feeding the kids etc, boring goals but realistic ones.

    Caleb,

    Right on the dough.

I develop business plans (so I may come across as biased). What you wrote about planning is foundational. It's the first step. It's hard work. But, it makes the ''second creation'' easier.

It's not possible to just jump into the ''action'' stage and reap awesome results without gaining clarity about a lot of vital stuff, like the business models you intend to explore, the resources required, modelling the experts in the niche, projections, potential pitfalls...

Planning is the ''first creation''. (Apologies to Dr S. Covey). But, as he wrote in his classic (The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People), everything is created twice. Some of us want to skip the first part and make straight for the moolah.

Planning makes us ''see'' better. It's no substitute for getting our hands dirty...the actual work, but it's what separates the winners from the...It results in clarity (you'll need to do some research).

It prevents one from jumping from niche to niche, too. Thanks for sharing.

I agree with you : Caleb, Max, Alex, Alan. :-)
And when we are setting goals, we need to pay special attention to planning them. if we don't plan well, we may not even have a goal to reach for. Be clear about our goal but be flexible about the process of achieving it. The following suggestions will help us set clear goals we can achieve :
    1. What do we want ?
    2. Set specipic goals
    3. Put our goals in writing
    4. Set up steps to reach our goals
    5. Do what works

When we are ready to set a clear goal, we have to be ready to act on the goal as well. :-)

Sounds like wisdom to me. We should always plan out our game and know the direction we want to go. Goals are important whether they are long term or short term. They give us a path to take as we move forward.

    Clarity is very important.

You can't arrive at your destination without knowing exactly where you want to go.

I'd like to add o not make goals that you know you won't be able to fulfil.
    Its actually counter-intuitive.

To answer your question: because of the placebo effect. We can call it many different things: faith, trust, The law of attraction, hope, gambling, risk, luck, spontaneous – it has many names. Sometimes people do actually win the lottery. You will also note that about half the terms I used are seen as positive while the other half are seen as negative. Interesting?

Many people make it too seductive to say no. They offer flattery and false promises so they can get rich selling snake oil that may have actually worked once or twice.

Also people do not want pain. Work is often associated with pain which is sad. And most people do not know what to do about it. Many people may even feel entitled to rewards with no work. So of course, Caleb, I understand the intent of your post – work and you will probably get there more often than not. Good advice.

I just would add to the discussion this respectful insight. Don’t rule out “extra” free help. If we approach our goals with everything all completely spelled out then we might fall into the trap of having to do it all ourselves. And end up doing too much work. We want that awesome middle ground (probably more upper middle ground) of plenty of smart work while keeping the lid off for any “extra” help that might come our way.
