I've joined the ranks of the unemployed.

I lost my job about a week ago, and so now I've joined the ranks of the unemployed. While I have some savings and some money due that should last me for the next 3 months or so I am concerned for the future. The good news is that my video services have been growing in popularity here on the forum and on other forums and I have some offline projects in the works. I'm going to prepare my resume and portfolio for a job search and continue to build my freelance practice, and in two months time we'll see which one will win. If I find a great job, I'll take it. If not, I'll find a part time job and ramp up my freelance work to 100%.

If it wasn't for a few good people here on the forum who encouraged me to start my own business. I would have been SOL when this layoff came. In the past year I paid off all of my debts, secured a partnership with a local video production company, and learned what it takes to provide a great service to my customers. The warrior forum, especially the mind warriors have been an invaluable resource that should not be taken lightly. You guys have saved lives here. So wish me luck. It's about to get real.

God never closes one door without opening another ..

Sometimes that new door isn't obvious, and we need to search it out but that (in my opinion) only makes the rewards that much sweeter

    Good luck, and God Bless

As someone who lost their job due to the economic downturn a few years back I can only wish you the best of luck.
For me, I found a new life that is so good at present.
Like the Rev said, one door closes and another opens.
    Cheers

I'm happy that you are doing great.

I'm also unemployed for quite some time now. It's almost 2 years. And one thing that I find really hard to believe is that, when we are not working, we tend to find a way to survive. And during that process, we are much more creative than the time when we are employed.

I'm not saying that being an employed is a bad thing, but for me, it's just a turning point in my life, where I suddenly become aware of all the opportunities that was actually around me.

      Wish you all the best.

      William.

@swilliams09 - I'm so sorry to hear about your news. Being made redundant is horrible and it can bring challenges for even the most positive person.

However, I'm not sure that it's right that you say that you're unemployed. From what you've told us, you've started up a really successful business that's enabled you to pay off your debts and develop your video production skills! Wow!! So, in your CV, I'd refer yourself as a freelance video marketer, rather than someone that's unemployed. Not only will this help raise your spirits, but it also might impress potential employers too.

That's so true! The word "unemployed" brings out such a negative impression to most people, where else they fail to see that a free lancer can actually rack up quite a huge income as well!

Anybody realize the part in Social Network when that college chick ask Sean Parker (J. Timberlake) about his job, and replies "I'm an entrepreneur." And she says, "Oh my God, you're unemployed..."

      Peace!

(Haha) Well I've only ever had one job in my entire life (which I was fired from for being late).

Invest your money in your business/products and join the ranks of the self-employed.

I wouldn't say being a successful Entrepreneur is “easy” (depending on how smart you work and if you know what you're doing) however it's something that absolutely anyone can accomplish - no matter where they're starting from. :-)

I'm glad to hear that you had a business going when this happened. Even though it won't replace your full-time income, it's a place to start.

      I wish you well:-)

  • When I was very young, Napoleon Hill gave me my first re-frame, different way of looking at, disastrous events or ****ty circumstances. The belief he installed in me was "Within every adversity, lies an equivalent or greater benefit."

This is real easy to preach when everything is lav, lav, lovely. But when you're in the thick of drama, you might be tempted to tell people who quote Hill, to shove it up their ass a thousand times so they have a big asshole.

Even though looking for how the situation can serve you is probably the best advice you could get, it's never what you want to hear at the time. Even though it's about a jillion times better than commiserating day in day out with another person about how they've also been royally screwed.

Dan Kennedy in his Wealth Attraction seminar tells the story of the Investment banker in New York City who was on top of the world one day, and the bottom the next.

This investment banker was the king of investment bankers and was living high on the hog. One of the ways he would treat his royal self was with the company of the worlds most expensive strippers, er, I mean, "Dancers" fit for a king.

Well, in between cup cake talk, he doled out a stock tip here and a stock tip there and someone who must not have had any love for this guy ran their mouth to the authorities. Next thing you know, he's strung up on 'Insider Trading' charges just like Martha Stewart.

Off to prison he goes. Pretty ****ty event, eh?

While sitting in the slammer, I can imagine he's thinking "This has gotta be the worst thing that ever happened to me." That is until September 11th, 2001 rolls around. His luxurious office, where he would've been working had he not been ratted out, was located on the floor in the World Trade Center right where one of the planes plowed into.

None of his former co-workers survived.

All of sudden... worst thing that ever happened to me, ends up being the best thing that ever happened to me. This and many other examples like it caused Dan Kennedy to believe that "All News Is Good News."

Below I've posted the video from Conan O' Brien's visit to Google this last week. In my opinion, it's sheer comedic brilliance. He's taking random questions from the google employees and is tearing the room up in laughter.

Do you remember how Conan O' Brien got punked out his prestigious post of lead man of "The Tonight Show" by Jay Leno? Well when he spoke at Google, they didn't hesitate ask him his thoughts on that.

Did he whine like a bitch or did he man up?

Watch, laugh and hear for yourself in the video below... I guarantee there's a mighty lesson to be found...

PS. I'm happy to hear that the Warrior Forum's warm embrace has led you to opportunity!

Awesome! Glad your video thing is going well for you.

Great luck in the future. Reality is pretty negotiable, if you're willing to condition yourself to withstand discomfort, never complain, do what other people won't and hone your thinking capacities!

Keep us posted, best of luck man.
